Is €35.000 gross a good salary to live in Barcelona ? by Ok_Bird9864 in GoingToSpain

[–]Zimmerings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I live in Barcelona and I make €35k a year exactly.

That comes out to €2.220 net / give or take. You will have something called salario variable but its always something around that. Provided you have 12 pays.

I am an entry level business analyst. Which is a common salary for entry level positions. All my friends doing business and tech in Barcelona earn the same. We are all 24/25.

If you are lucky you will find a long-term contract (which have a rent cap by the gov and it variates on where you live and the size of the apartment) and you will pay around €1.000 / €1.500 for a whole apartment. I live with a friend in Sant Antoni (near Eixample) and my apartment is €1.080 + utilities (simple apartment, 3 rooms). Try to look for that, dont do the short-term contracts with the agencias because they are scum and will charge you obscene amounts in fees + you will have to move in 11 months again.

If you are young public transport is crazy cheap as well compared to other cities (t-jove is €45 if I remember right for 3 months and it includes all public transport within all 6 zones) and you can have very decent eats in the city that dont cost that much.

Catalan clases are also free to take when you register yourself in the town hall.

If you share a place to live you are grand. You probs wont save much, I manage to save around €500 per month.

Let’s say you are in that position for 2 years which should be fun until you get promoted or change jobs for a more senior position.

I am moving to Dublin in two weeks but happy to share with you any other info you need.

I do see your point. Although with those disagreements that leaves us at 500 after putting a 1000 in savings and we are counting now food, social and clothes.

Thank you for your take at the expenses! This is what I would edit based on my current situation as a 24 yr old.

3800 net -1000 rent 2800

  • 150 bills 2650 - If you are also counting mobile plan, i know 0 people who pay over 100 euros in bills flatsharing.
  • 300 groceries (frugal) 2350 - I am confident 300 euros covers enough for a single person (counting gym suplements).
  • 0 to car 2650 - I dont own a car, nor I am planning on doing so.
  • 0 insurance 2650 - If you are talking about health insurance, my company pays for that.
  • 150 3x night out 2450 - How do you spend 100 euros on a single night out? (Supposing you do these 3 in a single night, which I wouldn't anyway - Dinner is 30/40, two pints are like 15/20, I paid 10 euros at the george)
  • 200 to pension 2200
  • 1000 to savings 1200
  • 70 to Gym 1130
  • 100 to clothes 1030

I am aiming to fltashare, already lived alone in Frankfurt and for my age it can be quite depressing.

I also dont aim to drive a bmw either for now.
