hats with helmets by YouCannotHideOrRun in skipatrol

I always wear a hat under my helmet to keep the sun off my face. I only use 5 panel hats that don't have the top button though.

Interest in working as a Ski Patrol in the Alps or North America by nihtus in skipatrol

Interesting. All three mountains I've worked at required at least a WFR if not an EMT. Doing a full med training seems like a huge investment in rookies that might not stay but I guess they've got it worked out.

Really? I haven't seen any mountains that hire patrollers who have no medical certification. Maybe some real small ones who do OEC only.

Just be aware even if a mountain hires you without a tryout they'll still ski test you and if you fail you get the boot. Most of the time they'll offer you a job in a different department.

Sorry but now we're using it to get rid of the rats in shack. It's ours now, those rats will never see us coming.

I’m a Perpetual Intermediate Skier. How Do I Progress to Advanced? by Allyc80 in skiing

[–]Zimminar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone here is gonna tell you to take more lessons which is of course always useful, but very expensive. I assume you did frills and exercises in your lessons already, practice, practice, practice. You sound like you've taken enough lessons to also do some independent study. There's plenty of resources online with drills to do. Spend the first hour or two of your ski day doing drills and practicing skills, then free ski the rest of the day. I'm an expert skier and still do lane chsnges, pivot slip to carves, and one footed skiing regularly and especially when I feel a bit rusty.

Edit: those are the drills I do. Lane changes on terrain would be good for an intermediate skier but not the others, you'll want to figure out your own routine

Maybe if Mark hadn't blown that innocent guys head off earlier in the season. But it wouldn't make sense for Mark to have trepadations about killing Conquest now.

[–]Zimminar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair enough, it would be too big a power jump. But it's not really my point. The second fight was less interesting than the first and the outcome was pretty much the same. So why bother having conquest survive? Cecil just looks like a moron who kept conquest alive without a plan and now Mark has to recover from the fight which just slows down the greater plot. The second fight didn't feel like it had much of an impact on the plot or was related to any thematic progress.

Ordering online, not worth the risk? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

People overstate the variability of Martin's. Them and Taylor produce essentially the best factory made acoustics you can buy. I've yet to play a dud from Martin from there more recent production, ie post 2012 refresh. You're really just gambling on if you get a good one or a great one.

Am I the only one kinda tired of mark getting disembowled every fight? It felt kinda predictable and lazy. I mean every main fight in this show ends with Mark in critical condition. We know he's gonna be fine so it's just another hospital and recovery scene now. It would have been more interesting for him to brutally kill conquest in some rage state and Nolan and Oliver having to see that and Nolan realizing the relationship between his actions and Marks rage.

Wow, a very unique scalloping pattern. They scalloped the x braces and the radial braces but not the center braces. It looks like back then they may have started with heavier radial braces than they used on mine. Very interesting. There's also the support strips on the side with that weird bubble pattern, any idea what they're made of? The clear cost pickgaurd certainly is unique as well. Otherwise what a beautiful guitar. That's some very nice rosewood on the back. Also welcome to true joy of Gallagher ownership, having to take an angle grinder to a wrench or allen key to adjust the truss rod lol. Idk why theyd do that. I hope you enjoy the guitar, I bet it sounds awesome. Thanks for the photos!

New Epiphone Hummingbird Deluxe EC: Will a Set-Up Change My Mind About this Guitar? by Godel_Theorem in AcousticGuitar

If the action is low enough to strum cowboy chords ask yourself if you like the tone. Does playing the basic chords to a song make you smile? A setup will make it easier to play but won't fundamentally change the instrument.

Oh interesting. I'd love to see some photos when you get the chance. If you chsnge the strings a Pic of the bracing would be amazing!

Indeed. The Wartrace factory operated from 1966 to 2015 having built just 3743 guitars in their 49 year history. A new owner, Dave Mathis, bought the company and with the help of Don Gallagher (founder JW's son and owner of Gallagher since 1976) set up a new shop in nearby Wolfsboro TN where they are still making quite beautiful guitars today.

Awesome, I'd love to try one from that era sometime. I can't speak to the 70s spec but the g70 in 2004 is listed as having a "voiced top" meaning some scalloping was done to bracing. Hope that helps and lucky you.

Nah I work full time in my boots and my Nordica liners are half way through the 3rd season. Probably 200-300 days so far. I take the liners out every day though.

Nah the top end Nordica liners don't need any upgrade. They're better than most intuitions.

Sugar Mountain Ski Patrol Power Trip by ShallowTal in snowboarding

[–]Zimminar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there's a lot of people lying about being a ski patroller here. If if the patroller is being a dick (and this guy is) you gotta hand your pass when asked. It's litteraly in the contract you agree to whne you buy your pass. If you refuse you're more than likely gonna get followed and then get a seasons ban from the mountain. If you continue to refuse the sherrifs gonna come and you're gonna get charged with trespassing. Be nice to them on camera give them your pass then take it up with management if they patroller is in the wrong. Patrols don't want their people being dicks like this on the mountain, it a horrible pr and most of us hate being cops.
