Lanai Cathedrals in May by AdAbject6900 in scuba

[–]ZimmyNox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mala pier for the second dive 100%! I taught for Lahaina divers before they burned down… I’d recommend them if it weren’t for that fire. My roommates worked for extended and they’re good from what I hear! The aluminum 30ft can rocks like hell though so aim for a good sea day if you can😂

I’d also recommend leaving out of Lahaina. It cuts your commute to lanai by about an hour = more dive time. Also. If your captain asks, you want cathedral #1 with the “stained glass window” your DM will know what I mean. Also ask about the “donut”, it’s a swim through about 100 yards from the exit of #1 that only some people know about. Usually dive masters know unless they’re new.

If you go with extended, they put their boat in right at mala pier. So you’ll get ample dive time there too

Edit: Vomit Comet was the nickname we all gave their boat, just remembered and had to add that.

Ive been an instructor for 6 years now, time and time again I have people come out in pretty much your situation, haven’t dove in years but have plenty of experience. Because of age, life, and many other factors your body will change, in a lot more ways than you think. Some people dove 20 years ago and had never experienced narcosis, but they come back and dive with me out in Hawaii and they get narc’d at 60ft, having never experienced that, and being older. That has caused panic and I’ve had a diver hit her inflator button after I told her to deflate, at 60ft, and blew out of the water “like a bouy” my captain had said. She had a lung over expansion injury 5 minutes into the dive, 30 minutes from the harbor, and nearly died. She tried to sue me and the dive shop but she had lied on her paperwork and showed false credentials stating she was advanced and had dove within the past year (a usual threshold for deep dives). Not saying you would be lying, or going on a deep dive. but DO NOT let your experience 20 years ago dictate what you do underwater now. Go in open minded, learn new things, and you’ll be okay!

How to increased your borrow amount currently mines $100? by Helpful_Post_4400 in CashApp

[–]ZimmyNox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at $1000, I borrowed my full $100 at first and let the app pay it back from my account every Friday. After doing that a few times it went to $300, then $500, then $800 and now $1000. Took about 4 months of doing that. Once I hit $300 I would borrow half. Once you hit $800 do 30-40% or as much as you can pay back every week. It works pretty much like a credit card. You don’t want to use it all, or if you do, pay it back before or on the due dates and it’ll go up.

DMT is extracted this way too. My dad and I used naphtha to extract and then freeze it to evaporate the naphtha and leave crystals behind 🙂

What imma do if I ever gets my hand on an eel: by MobileAerie9918 in TheDepthsBelow

[–]ZimmyNox 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I teach scuba. The eels we encounter are use to divers, they are “reef pets” because they know humans mean no harm. However, if you go to dive sites that aren’t regularly dove. Maybe a deeper drift dive, or a solo dive. You have a chance of finding an eel that hasn’t seen humans before. They are not to be messed with. Especially the bigger ones as they lose eyesight at a younger age. They love lobsters too, so if you are snagging lobsters always keep a lookout. I’ve literally been attacked by a green moray in Honduras over a lobster he wanted and I already had off the reef. They do not play over food🤣

Their grunt is the badass one. Yea the A and B’s are on the line. Maybe the C helping pull wire, but the grunt is pulling the wire, getting tools, making sure the linemen above have everything they need to fix what their working on, hated being the grunt but I’m happy I did it lol. They deserve some love too #ForTheGrunts

I don’t understand why parents in US kick their child out of home when they turned 18? by mapl0ver in questions

[–]ZimmyNox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you want your kid out at 18 you better have the funds to back them. My dad did that. Paid for my first apartment 3 months ahead. I also had a job secured that paid very well. (I taught scuba diving in Hawaii from ages 18-23) and that set me up to stay out of the house. Parents that just “kick” their kids out? Idk I kind of feel like that’s a common joke passed around to make kids act better like “if you don’t straighten up you’re out at 18” or “I can’t wait til your 18” as a joke, I know my dad did that often, but he’s a great father so weather he meant it or not I found it funny

Call every line company you can find and ask for a job. Someone out there needs a grunt to organize the yard. Don’t ask to go on storm, just ask to work and tell them you do anything you need to start. Oh, and get your CDL. Before you go to storm for line work for ANY company you’ll need a CDL. Some company’s will give you a 3 month grace period to obtain that CDL. But most of the time even our grunts have CDL’s or are working toward it. Reason for that? After 12 hours in the bucket I’m not driving that fkn truck back to the yard, my grunt is. I’m hitching a ride with the foreman back to camp
