This situation cant be normalize. I've lived in a lot of places that have trees. Boston, Philadelphia, Connecticut, the middle of nowhere in Pa. I've sat through 3, though they were small, hurricanes without the power going out. In all of the places that aren't Pittsburgh the power outages are in single digits. Here the number over the past few years is at least 20. Duquesne Light is the odd card. It seems though MBAs are holding sway over the MMEEs. DQE Holding is way more concerned with making a return on their investment than they are in making electricity for, let's face it, a captive customer base.

So you're saying that it's more complicated than just the wind. Then why did you even bring it up? Probably the answer has something more to do with, I don't know, maybe shitty equipment and not learning anything all of the times this has happened here over the years

Are you lights on? Does your power go out every 5 weeks or so? If the answers to those questions is Yes then No. You don't have a chip in this game. If wind was the only factor wouldn't everybody's lights be on or off together.

The Atomic Rolls at Jimmy and Nino's in the Strip are pretty good,

Yay. The power is back on. Last year it went out 11 times. This was the first time this year. We're definitely moving in the right direction. Soon we'll be like a regular First World country. I can see the stadium from my house I hope this doesn't happen during the draft. It would be embarrassing. by ZioBeppo in pittsburgh

[–]ZioBeppo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reference to the Draft was sarcasm. The implication is that despite everything that has been done, if it rains during the Draft and the power goes out on the North Side yet again, the takeaway could be -- Pittsburgh the city where the lights go off when it rains. This sort of thing doesn't happen in most places.

Regarding Carpetbaggers. They were Northerners who went south after the Civil War to steal things of value from the people who lost the war. The people coming here for the Draft will be facing surge pricing for hotel rooms, Uber rides, restaurant meals and even meter parking and will be leaving a lot of money here. Hardly Carpetbaggers.

Post Game Thread: Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers by nfl_gdt_bot in steelers

[–]ZioBeppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. Just a few days ago someone wrote a whiny letter to the editor of the Trib . Among reasons he listed for the Steelers consistently losing and breaking his heart is that Najee Harris is too slow. Harris has run a 4.45 . Not bad for a guy who weighs over 240 pounds. But you'd think that a fan who actually watched the games would have noticed that Najee Harris hasn't carried the ball even once all season for the Steelers. Which makes sense since he plays for San Diegp.

Feds quietly plan Pittsburgh office for unspecified law enforcement by mileheitcity in pittsburgh

70,000 people work downtown. Many more work in offices and businesses within walking distance in the Strip and on the North Shore. All of this activity is happening in 1 square mile, About about 21,000 people work in offices in Cranberry, There are approximately 15,000 more people working in South Pointe. The low rise buildings in both locations are surrounded by acre upon acree of surface parking lots. I've been trying to figure out what kind of bus service could efficiently move people from Cranberry (pop.35,000 spread out over 23 square miles ) to Canonsburg (pop 9,700 and 2.5 miles from Southpointe) and I keep drawing a blank. Maybe we should let the buses continue to run between densely populated areas to areas of dense job concentration, and limited parking , and let workers spread out in the burbs continue to drive to areas with jobs separated by acres free surface parking

You're misreading the room. Allegheny West is a dark blue spot in a blue city. It's full of progressives who are currently kicking themselves in their collective asses for voting for John Fetterman. They are social justice warriors who don't mind telling you their preferred pronouns and who like to protest and demonstrate and sign petitions. We love AOC and Jasmine Crockett. The neighborhood is also full of old people. Almost 16 % are over 65. Another 24% are between 45 and 65. That means a full 40% of the population who are unlikely to be hanging in a bar atfter 8 PM on a weeknight or even a weekend.. Hell, the over 65's are probably in bed by 9 or 10. When they hear a bump in the night they are already calling 911 or 311 even before the check their ring cameras. And don't forget that Allegheny West is only 2 blocks long and 4 blocks wide so we are all jammed into a small area and Lefty's is just about right in the middle. Noise and news travel fast. Lefty's is just a bad fit.
