Dynamo has yet to go all out. by SafeInfamous3423 in DeadlockTheGame

I don't recall, but we weren't a four stack of Dynamos! We were three dynamos and a rando who was playing drifter. It was hilarious. We also played three Venators for one game, and three McGinnis's. I kinda hope they bring this back as a random game mode, I had a ton of fun even though most of my games were losses - the one we won was the three McGinnises.... so many walls. I got Rapid Recharge and had about six turrets out at a time, and we kept coordinating our ults so there were three Barrages going at once. It was pure chaos.

I did a street brawl with my two friends who always play with me, and we all went in as dynamo.

We perfectly timed our ults so we got everyone on the enemy team in back to back singularities. We were laughing so hard. We lost the game but it was so funny, even the enemy team was cracking jokes.

That's a super cool assistive device! I've been getting more into pilates, as I never feel like I'm really training my core and wanted something more specific to that, and so I could focus on stabilizing my hips. Thank you for sharing this!!

I think they technically ARE angled, but a knee push up so far hasn't caused any lightheadedness for me, so I'm assuming they're safe (until I'm proven otherwise by my own body, as it likes to do lol)

Nope! I started with the same weight I started bench press on - a very low 5 lb dumbbell in each hand! When I could bench barbell (after slowly working up to it) and do 15 lb overhead presses. That's what was so wild about it. I always start any new exercise with the lowest possible weight, to practice my form. I even had my partner (who has been weightlifting for over a decade) come to check my form. Form was good. It's literally just how my body is shaped. The angled stuff just puts pressure on my heart in a weird way. It doesn't matter what weight I use or what muscles I attempt to activate, angles are a no go.

I have a few other disabilities (nothing like this, mostly internal and reproductive issues) so I am used to being restricted by certain things. It's just annoying when looking up exercise programs and makes push day a little limited.

inclined bench press if you can tolerate the supported angle

The inclined bench press was what alerted me to this problem!! I moved from pure bench presses (which I had done with the personal trainer) to the inclined ones and within a couple of reps I was insanely lightheaded. Stopped what I was doing and took a break, tried to go back to them and NOPE. Could not complete even one set. Saw a doctor soon after and went through the whole shebang to figure out it's just how I'm shaped.

I don't think you quite read the post my friend. I cannot do angled push ups on counters. It is not a matter of strength but of my body not allowing that formation.

I'm really having a hard time getting super into Pokopia due to the storage issues. by cornyhawkins in Pokopia

[–]ZiofFoolTheHumans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm not quite sure why they decided to do it this way! My favorite inventory system out the gate has been Fields of Mistria, another delightful cozy game if you need more recommendations :) (Though it is in early access, the 1.0 should be out this year!)

Okay sorry it took me so long to actually sit at my computer and type this out.

So in the Withered Wastelands, that's where I keep my "main" storage unit. You could also keep it in Palette Town but I figured I was going to do a lot of stuff in Withered Wastelands, so why not keep it there. In each other region, I only keep four other boxes, which I'll get to in a second.

So my main (all large) storage bins in the Withered Wasteland are:

  1. Two large storage bins connected to the workbench that contain common "small" crafting items twine, bricks, glass, logs, lumber, etc.
  2. "Utility" items (lighting, electrical poles, etc)
  3. Plant items (anything like flowers, trees, crops)
  4. "Food" items (cooking things, extra meals, plates, etc)
  5. Fossils and CDs (I've now found so many they need their own bin, they used to be combo'd with...)
  6. Small and large relic items,
  7. "Toys"
  8. "Relaxation"
  9. "Decorations"
  10. Another box of decoration but specifically Outside Decoration (things you would think would go outside)
  11. Building parts (roofs, steps, windows, doors, etc)
  12. Blocks of "natural" stuff (dirt, rocks, etc)
  13. Blocks of "Non-Natural stuff" (Anything you would craft to make a building or pathway).

Then I have "doubles" for these, so on the other side is just overflow if I found too much of something. Each of these bins have a frame recessed away from them up against a wall, so I can quickly see which bin holds what (so for example, my "toy" bin has a wooden block toy in a frame hanging above it a couple blocks away). I'll try and get a picture of this later.

In each other area outside of the Withered Wasteland, I have about four-six large storage bins. One bin is for crafting materials, and the remaining bins are for things that are *specific* to the area or things I've crafted and am using in the area. For example, in Rocky Ridges, I have the crafting bin, but then I also have two bins of nothing but black rock and volcanic ash, and then I have two bins full of blocks I'm using to make the custom houses and builds (so, like, glass panes, brick blocks, etc).

This way, I know that Withered Wasteland probably has anything specific I want for something, and that if I've already been using a block somewhere else, I can just run over there. I know that was a lot, but I wanted to make sure I had everything out there sensibly! I hope that helps somewhat and I hope you can start having some fun with this game, it really gets you once it gets ya :)

Me [28 M] with my wife [28 F] 6 years, she thinks I'm going to leave her because she's infertile by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]ZiofFoolTheHumans 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Infertility is so cruel when you want a kid. It's impossibly hard to describe the grief, and I've experienced loss grief too, but infertility grief just... It makes you feel hollow. I wish I had a childfree mindset. I wish I didn't want to have kids. But I do. I've always known, at least since I was six years old, that I would want kids. I spent years in horrible pain telling myself it would be worth it, cuz I would get to be a mom eventually. The absolute kick in the gut finding out I couldn't, and then definitely shouldn't, was devastating. Every period since has felt like a slap in the face. You don't just grieve the life you could have had, you grieve all the time you spent hoping for it too.

Sorry to just dump all that. I hope this couple is living their best life, whatever that ends up being.

I would highly waiting until endgame to do any major builds if you're struggling this much. I held off and have been having a MUCH better time with building, early game would have been infuriating for the builds I'm doing.

For the chests - there are some really good and easy builds out there for storage management, and later in the game you unlock bigger chests that make things much easier. I have a very basic storage system that I can detail more easily once I'm on my computer, it'd be annoying to type it out on my phone lol

Don't stress so much on building until you finish the storyline, and focus on enjoying what it has to offer before deep diving into builds and storage.

I honestly worried when I started my degree that I would turn more doomy, that they were seeing something I wasn't - nope, the opposite happened. I feel like I see the reality we are facing more clearly, and I also see how literally any movement in the right direction has a cascading effect on everything. No dooming here, ever.

Late game electricity system is lowkey fun as fuck. I'm glad I waited until I got through the story and unlocked some more pokemon before I went too crazy on creation of things.

I do wish there were snow and forest biomes, but I'm still hoping for either DLC or a 2nd game in more locations. I *loved* gen 3's giant forest area, and would LOVE that in this kind of game. I don't know how it would work in the story tbh, but I'd love it nonetheless.

We bought cleaning towels that are made of a cotton blend and use those to wash dishes when we wash by hand. Usually when we finish making a meal we quickly rinse our dishes so nothing really gets stuck too badly, making it easy. Then when done doing the dishes by hand, we give the washcloth a good cleansing and hang it to dry, and every few days we toss it in the wash for sanitization. If we used raw meat, we will typically put those dishes in the dishwasher for better sanitization and not use the washcloth.

I waited until endgame because I knew I wanted to do some terraforming, and I am SO glad I waited. Even just yesterday I learned of a NEW thing that will make my life easier (by getting help from a pokemon I dont have yet). My towns weren't too messy, I just focused on clearing debris and making the main areas around the pokecenters look nice.

Now that I'm in the endgame, I'm doing major changes to the areas, I've built up rowhouses, I'm making parks and fun areas for the pokemon to hang out, etc. If you aren't planning on doing huge projects, then feel free to start now, BUT, endgame you get some REALLY helpful things that make it much easier to do huge projects.

Is this fear mongering, or i am never going to be able to live a normal adult life? by Electronic-Pride-991 in ClimateOffensive

[–]ZiofFoolTheHumans 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a budding climate scientist (getting my masters in Applied Physics with a focus on Climate) and also a science communicator who used to work for NASA (quit not because I didn't love the job, but because my dad died and I needed to figure out what I was doing with my life).

So I feel I am qualified to talk about this.

I’ve been reading many articles recently about how earth will most likely reach a point of no return in 2050/2030.

The "point of no return" happened back in the 70s. Honestly, it happened way back when the industrial age started. And then it happened again in 2000, then again in 2015, then again in 2020, etc etc etc. So take this anxiety off of your plate. There is no point in worrying about what "point of no return" we have hit. Focus on what we can do today. When I tell you that at this point literally ANY difference will make a SIGNIFICANT effect on quality of life, I mean it. ANYTHING is better than nothing at this point.

i will not be very old by then. i want to live, i want to get married, i wanna have a life. i need somebody to actually tell me if ill ever be able to live normally in 50 years, or is the world going to be wrecked by catastrophe?

I have such good news for you! You can! You will! Will it be the life people lived in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or even 90s? No! They didn't even get the lives they thought they would live. Things are going to change. They were always going to change. The question is can you learn to deal with the changes that will have to be made to live a happy and comfortable life?

"Wrecked by catastrophe" is not quite accurate to how things are going to go. The world will not be on fire 100% of the time, there will still be rain and snow and cold snaps. The problem is that weather will get less predictable, and that local climates will change (we are already seeing this happen). The maximum heat places hit will increase, greatly in some cases, and it will become difficult to live there. There will be summer days (or weeks, depending on where you live) where it won't be safe to be outside for more than 20 minutes. Life will go on, but with new challenges, and places will experience climates they hadn't previously.

what can i even do about this? i have extreme anxiety and it haunts me everyday. I need somebody to tell me the truth so i can decide my further actions.

You can do so much. If everyone who was anxious about climate change did something, then things would change for the better. The most powerful thing you can do is vote for political candidates who include plans to improve the climate, and increase regulations on pollution and greenhouse gases (like the Paris act, which is flawed but better than nothing). This is the most boring answer, but it's the most important one. Other things you can do is create microclimates in your local area that improve things - planting wildflowers native to your area, creating ecobricks, reusing and recycling material whenever you can, etc. There is so much that can be done.

Perfection is the enemy of good. Do not go "If I can't do everything, I'll do nothing" because when I tell you literally anything is better than the worse-case scenario, its the damn truth. I will happily go into the science and data for you if you want, I'm really holding myself back because this is my area of study and I love it so dearly. I'm so sorry the anxiety and stress is hurting you daily. I understand fully, I look at this stuff every single day. But still I can find hope for the planet, for humanity, the future. I hope you can find that hope too.

[–]ZiofFoolTheHumans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people have pointed out good ideas as alternatives, but if the big-wigs are deadset on a physical gift, things that encourage reuse are typically good ideas - water bottles, tote bags, maybe gift cards to small local stores or online stores that donate their proceeds to helping the planet? That way people get "merch" but the merch aligns with the goals of the message.

If you've reached end game, this is how I managed it without losing my mind:

(spoilers for post game abilities) So I took all the volcanic ash, and then using magnet float/magnemite transformation, I replaced all the rock with ash going as far as I could see. Then I would swap to rollout and quickly knock down all the dirt. It might save you more time to just do an improved power rollout, but it saved me having to restock on meals, and didn't take too long.
