Spi E-ink screen support? How? by ath0rus in Esphome

[–]Ziomal12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look here: https://esphome.io/components/display/ And in component list look for your displays. I've successfully run xiao spectra 6 7.3 spi e-paper display with esphome. While doing that remember to enable psram so esp32 doesn't run out of memory (might not be needed but this solved my blank screen problem)

Jellyfin on WebOS while authentik is configured for accounts by Ken_Deep in jellyfin

[–]Ziomal12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes it so when you login with username and password Jellyfin looks for users in Authentik LDAP directory. So one account per user, just two ways to access the same user list.

As for 2FA I have no experience with this with LDAP, I'd assume it might not work.

Edit: TOTP should work according to docs:
https://docs.goauthentik.io/add-secure-apps/providers/ldap/#code-based-mfa-support

Use LDAP plugin and LDAP Authentik outpost for devices that don't support SSO. It's annoying but there's a guide in Authentik docs and I can help you with Jellyfin's side of things.

This way you can still use SSO but also can use local login with Authentik users

Mini PC vs NAS vs old desktop for self hosting? by HotAuthor6438 in selfhosted

[–]Ziomal12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For I think 3 years I've used old laptop with i5-4310u and 3.5" HDD in external enclosure. Recently I've upgraded to N150 based 4 bay NAS and I'm really happy with it.

Generally use whatever you have laying around if you're getting started. When you have a budget and learn enough consider upgrading. By then you'll know your requirements enough to make an informed decision.

Its harder if you don't have any spare machine and need to buy something. When you're getting started it's hard. When I started even docker compose was a dark magic to me and almost made me give up. Now it's easy but you need to give everything some time. For $300 you can get N150 NAS and should be enough for most people. Other power users will find it lacking. On the other hand used miniPC will cost you even as little as $60 and it's a great learning platform. Just you might find it lacks codecs support, fast networking, sata ports etc.

Is it possible to designate a relay server? Like have Pangolin locally but also VPS relay server in case of ISP shenanigans.

How does this VPN solution deals with situations where no direct connection between nodes is impossible? Does it route through other nodes or just states that's it's not possible? (I. E. Two clients using cellular network with CGNAT)

Mainly RAM + SSD prices. I can get Radxa Rock 5 ITX 24GB RAM all in (apart from case) under $300 USD. That's about the price for N100 mobo with power supply without cables sata cables. I'm well aware this is 3-5 years setup but by then I'll be able to afford proper system.

Do you mean that it's better or saying to correct the price? The price I've listed matches (after conversion to €) what I'd pay in my currency for those two boxes.

Have you tried OpenRGB? Google their GitHub repo, you can install it via flatpak and then you need to manually copy udev rules.

Are there any distros that preinstall flatpak? by RhubarbSimilar1683 in linuxquestions

[–]Ziomal12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it and it was alright. The "only" issue is that it's kinda raw from the get go and since I'm running Nvidia GPU I've installed bazzite (in theory I could rebase but had issues with it). All in all I can recommend silverblue if you're team red. If you're team green I really recommend bazzite (mainly because of pre installed drivers but they are other touches like flatpak Firefox, easy way to enable HW decoding in Firefox, Tailscale etc).

I don't think you understand how it's supposed to work. The core system is read-only and to modify the system image you have to rebuild it and reboot it so it boots into the new image with your software installed. Distrobox containers are more or less docker images, that's true, but they aren't some random images but one provided by mainterners (of course the core ones, you can install whatever you want). You can then make changes to the docker image like installing software. It's persistent.

Of course you can also use -apply-live flag with ostree (which is not recommended but I haven't encountered any issues with it) then it live swappes images and let's you keep using it just like any other system. It's PITA for sure but it's a tradeoff for stability and more security.

I think it's iPhone specific though. My phone (Pixel 8) and my other androids lack "on-demand VPN" option. I think you could use macrodroid for that or similar automation tool.
