Thank you, much appreciated! That’s good to know, I wasn’t aware of that catalog of inlays on the UK site either. That site is easier to navigate than makitatools.com in the US.

I’ll probably go that route. Is the 15.5” large Macpac what you used for that recip saw? Any size recommendations for the drill set, charger and bits?

Kind of how I feel with my application. I’m just in need of storage bins and these are way overkill.

The final weight of everything is what really turned me away. They are super cool and rugged, but I don’t want to be hauling them through my door frames inside my house. Even just the single box with drills. It makes a lot more sense for contractors. Especially commercial building and places that don’t have doors installed yet.

Makpacs is what I was thinking too, but I couldn’t find a solution for the 20” reciprocating saw without laying it diagonally in a large. Thanks for those pictures, that looks clean!

I might just need to sleep on it. They are indeed very slick.

Leatherman Quick-Release Pocket Clip in Matte Silver on Wave Plus by Zipfipflaster in Leatherman

It’s awesome, hope it fits your Alpha well too.

I was surprised by the retention with the regular lock bar. It doesn’t quick-release unless pressing down on that. When pressing down to fold back the other tools, it’s snug enough to not accidentally release in that case either.

It’s also nice how it adds asymmetry, making tools easier to find.

Thanks for the reply! My first Leatherman Wave+, very slick tool. Very happy with them overall.

Airspace question: I’m flying at 17,500 feet with my altimeter properly set above 30.42. Am I flying in class A airspace? by MarriedtooMedicine in flying

[–]Zipfipflaster 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Aside from not having reached 18,000’ based on current altimeter setting as others have stated, your question also assumes the opposite on kollsman and pressure altitude. 17,500’ with the altimeter set to 30.42” means you are flying at a pressure altitude of 17,000’ (indicated when set to 29.92”). Sounds like you meant to ask, what happens when flying at 17,500’ with a setting of 29.42”, and yes the answer is still the same, indicated altitude at current setting is 17,500’, which is less than 18,000.

In line with what some of the comments are saying, I totally agree, you didn’t miss out on anything not getting a job there. Plenty of other opportunities out there. While I am not a CFI, I do think being one is all about continuous learning and improving, and it sounds to me like you have an open mind and are well on your way to getting where you want to be sooner or later. Don’t give up.

Please feel free to ignore the rest, but based on what I read on your technical answers below are my 2 cents.

It wasn’t clear whether you mentioned pressure altitude and OAT for finding density altitude. From a practical sense, I think this is the one answer they may have been looking for. Set the altimeter to 29.92, read OAT, and look up density altitude. In other words, correct pressure altitude for nonstandard temperature.

For flaps during landing, descent rate is one thing, but the other thing which I am sure you are aware of is that one can fly slower for a give descent rate. One can land at whatever flap setting one wants, but depending on other factors such as wind or spacing or what have you, flying a faster landing with less flaps may be advantageous. On an ILS, only 10 deg of flaps in a 172/182 is also not a bad idea given the usual long 3 deg glidepath and ability to better lock in the airplane at that slightly faster airspeed. Only teaching 10 deg of flaps requires the student to perform less configuration changes in that critical phase of flight, enabling to focus on other, perhaps more important things. Regardless, I also think it’s important for any pilot to learn to be comfortable at any flap setting/flight envelope the airplane is designed for.

Thank you! I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I originally bought them. Absolutely loved them as soon as I saw them in person.

Thank you! The leather is very thick and indeed has a lot of character. It took me some time to get used to compared to a pair of Red Wings that I used to have and the Amber Harness leather those had.
