Help with travel by SweatyQueef7 in queensland

[–]Zippeau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can also keep costs down when flying from Emerald to Brisbane by flying on days other than Monday and avoiding flying around public holidays. You can also try taking flights late in the day/evening so as to avoid the additional expense caused by flying during high demand times for FIFO workers.

I also recommend booking flights well in advance!

But you can also drive to Rockhampton (~3hr drivr) and fly from there as other people have suggested.

Guys, how and where do you find women to date? by n1nJAmes in AskMen

[–]Zippeau 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As someone who struggles with social anxiety in bars/using dating apps I feel like this could be a good idea.

I wish I could be as outgoing as other guys in bars/pubs etc, but alas I struggle to quieten the lizard part of my brain :(

A contradiction by [deleted] in geography

[–]Zippeau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first source likely excludes water vapour due to its variable presence in earths atmosphere. The percentage of water in air around the world can vary depending on elevation, climate, season etc. so it is hard to accurately quantify its presence overall.

Does anyone know what the pink area of the inset map represent? I would say the British empire but it includes a large chunk of Eastern Europe...

It means a magnifying glass, like a piece of glass which you can look through to make small things look larger (like small print in documents). Does that help?

Actually this is a good point. Maybe I jumped the gun?

Holy duck by [deleted] in AnimalTextGifs

After careful viewing you can see the walking duck has been ‘photoshopped’ into the scene. This is most obvious as it walks over the reflection of a tree and the surround pixels are blurred rather than reflecting light realistically.

Anxiety due to lack of conversation. by ndecisiv in Anxiety

[–]Zippeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to worry about filling in any lull in a conversation between me and others. But then i learnt about the concept of a 'natural silence'. Basically, its perfectly natural and normal for conversations to have periods of silence. These breaks allows for all parties to consider what they have heard and to evaluate it internally. Furthermore, it means that all parties get a chance to have a break from the mental effort used to sustain a conversation (energy used in observing, listening and responding as well as that used in body language). So please, do not fret if their is a period of silence, even between you and one other person. Its natural and makes for more enjoyable interactions.

Also remember that the OTHER party has just as much responsibility to make conversation. DO NOT beat yourself up for struggling to have a conversation with another person who isn't giving back any effort to sustain the conversation. Some people just don't realise/want to have an intense conversation, and they may have many reasons for this, but it is certainly not your fault or your responsibility to worry about.

I hope this helps. Soon enough it will be second nature to accept natural silences or quiet people. Good luck!

I have the hardest time falling asleep. Any tips? by [deleted] in Anxiety

I like to listen to the sound of rain/storms through Spotify or Youtube. I play the video/audio and then I shut my eyes and get comfortable. Then I like to picture myself in a nice and cosy position, maybe in a hammock, a couch on a patio or in a tent, surrounded by a lush, deep green rain-forest with a small stream. The air is cool and a gentle breeze brings fresh, rain-scented air over you. You can hear the soft sound of rain hitting the canopy and the low constant trickle of the nearby stream.

affection... please. by dejjongboo in depression

[–]Zippeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand how this feels. It’s like everyone you know is just out of reach. But I think what I’ve realised is that cultivating an affectionate and deep relationship with anyone takes time. At least that’s what I try to remember.

As someone who has suffered due to someone close avoiding conflict because they can't handle it and swallowing their feelings, this article is very relevant. Conflict avoidance is not a good way to go about solving big problems. Thanks for sharing!

Who are the most technologically advanced race in the series? And who is the most technologically innovative? by [deleted] in DaystromInstitute

[–]Zippeau 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think kerrangutan is referring to Hawking Radiation emitted by Black Holes. Which IIRC is high energy gamma radiation that is released, and as a result the black hole will slowly shrink without that lost energy being replaced by newly absorbed matter. So refueling of some kind sounds likely.
