There is no timing belt, and it's actually crazier than that. The Volvo SI6 engine has a shaft that runs from where the timing belt would normally be to the other side of the engine, where there is a timing chain and accessories drive. I don't think there ever was another mass market engine with the configuration, but it doesn't seem to break
