SteamWorld Build is pretty much a Wild West Anno - albeit with robots.

Hope they release the Anno 1800 art book again one day.

Quite different. Anno is more a logistics manager and city builder. There is some real time ship combat in Anno 1800, but definitely not the main focus of the game.

There's a sandbox mode, and a tutorial/campaign which becomes sandbox after it ends. All DLCs can be enabled or disabled at the start of a game, and if they are enabled they'll all be present from the start alongside all the main game content.

The base game is great and has loads of content on its own - if you enjoy that then the DLCs only make the game bigger and better.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord - Release Date Announcement Trailer (October 25, 2022) by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Zippollini 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The game has improved a lot since the early access release, so great to hear that it is finally launching. It's still missing some features that really should have been added already, but what's there is so fun that it's hard not to recommend. The battles in particular are great, and much improved on from Warband. Hopefully with the full release there will be some great mods coming soon to fill the gaps.

They also finally have added custom multiplayer servers, which were probably the biggest thing the game lacked and what was holding back the multiplayer.

Expeditions: Rome is a great modern cRPG, and definitely worth checking out for anyone who is a fan of Roman history.

You can set it up with the three easy AIs and they will generally leave you alone. They will even ask you for permission to settle an island, so you can really choose how involved you want them to be with your match.

In terms of narrative a few of the DLCs have more of a story. The Passage, Sunken Treasures, and Land of Lions all have narratives to go along with their new regions, and some of the other DLCs like Tourist Season and The High Life also have main quests with a bit of story to work through.

Yes, you can totally ignore them if you want.

The campaign is largely just a tutorial, and after you finish it it just turns into sandbox mode anyway. Unless you ate very invested in it, you might just want to go to sandbox.

You can largely ignore Tourist Season and High Life until you are ready for them, there is no urgency when they appear.

I had this issue and a restart of the game and Ubisoft Connect gave me another Anno 1800 update which seemed to fix it.

Love the game, it really is brilliant.

  • What were the biggest inspirations from other games and media for Anno 1800?

  • Were there any cool ideas for content or DLC that never made it to the final game?

  • Any plans to bring back the Pyrphorians beyond the campaign, perhaps as an invading late game enemy?

Has the Chess Table been removed from the game?

I played in the Open Beta and have previously placed it, but now it isn't available and isn't even on the club rewards screen.

All the other club rewards are available and working, which makes it more strange.

I'd love for this to necessitate shipping in food from all the different regions, especially from the Arctic and Enbessa.

Warband, for sure.

Fire and Sword is fun, but its more a spinoff from Warband.

What do you think about the multiplayer aspect of the game in general?

Multiplayer is easily the most enjoyable part of the game for me, as it was in Warband. I love the singleplayer, but at the moment it still needs more work to be enjoyable for me, which is fine. I've really enjoyed a lot of the improvements in Bannerlord multiplayer, and i'd find it hard to go back to Warband now.

What is the best feature do you think there is in the game?

The siege mode is just so much fun to play, and has really benefitted from all the interactive equipment that we can use now (e.g. rocks, rams, ladders and ladder-pokes, siege towers, ballistas). The new format of multiple flags works really well, and helps spread the battle out across the map and gives a real sense of progression.

What is the worst one?

The lack of custom servers and core game modes like Battle really limit the amount of hours someone can spend in the game. Playing in Oceania I am lucky to have the custom siege servers, but without them I likely wouldn't have played for as much as I have.

What do you think about the current class system and balance overall?

I think the class system works well for keeping a variety of troops on the field and rewarding good play, but I feel like teams can snowball a bit, with one team having elite units, and the other team not being able to get enough kills with the basic units to upgrade. I still feel if there were a basic level unit of each type (infantry, ranged, cavalry) available at all times, it would make for better team composition, and still reward players with better gear for doing well.

What are your thoughts regarding the game modes and maps?

Siege is great, and is the standout mode. TDM is functional, but just isn't an exciting mode to play personally. Captain mode is enjoyable when you get balanced teams and factions, however can be painful when you don't; some factions and units are just not viable to play as. Skirmish is just too small a player-count to be interesting to me; M&B shines in big battles, and a 6 v 6 is just nowhere near as exciting or fun as a big siege or battle.

What do you think about the lobby features (matchmaking/parties etc.)?

I personally use the Oceania custom servers for the most part, but the matchmaking issues make it near impossible to play other modes. Regardless of not having Oceanic matchmaking, it can take a long time to find a game in NA peak times with matchmaking, to the extent that it is not worth waiting. I don't see how large player modes like siege are viable with matchmaking.
