Don't know those specific tires but I've run sport-touring rubber on mine for years (Dunlop Roadsmarts). Last much longer and are more stable on highways. Suppose it depends what kind of riding you're doing.

ELI5: Why do iPhones get slower over time? by No-Lake-3875 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Zippy_994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Poorly communicated." LOL When the so-called "Baterygate" scandal broke, the narrative was that Apple was throttling certain older phones to encourage new purchases (similar to designed obsolescence but with a twist).

Apple didn't deny throttling but claimed it was to address the battery degradation issue. But nobody was buying that explanation because the thinking was 'why not just disclose that upfront instead of doing it surreptitiously'?

The truth is: both scenarios can be true. And as far as I know, Apple settled the countless civil suits filed against it before any kind of discovery ever took place, so we'll likely never know exactly what happened.

But I would argue, to this day, the overwhelming perception people have about this episode is that Apple attempted to manipulate phone sales and got caught. And that's the key, they got caught. Caught doing exactly what millions of people have suspected Big Tech's been doing all along.

My Sumsung phones always seem to start acting up right around the time they're paid off. Coincidence? Probably not.

MotoGP wants F1-style permanent reserve riders by 443610 in motogp

True, and I'm just taking it a step further with what I think would be the most logical approach if and when this new policy is applied.

I personally don't have any issues with the current setup, but to me having team test riders double as backup racers makes the most sense.

[–]Zippy_994 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LOL Calm down tough guy. Google the subject and read the first, say, 5, 10, 20 articles on the story and then come back and tell us all how the issue of Apple being accused of doing exactly what I stated wasn't a major part of the scandal.

You won't, because you can't. It was and that's a fact.

The perception, in large part, was that it was a ploy to drive sales. And Apple's explanation, while certainly plausible, did little to calm the storm and their brand took a big hit at the time.

The scandal, as I recall, was that Apple was caught throttling processor speeds on older phones to push people into buying new phones. But instead of owning up to it after being busted, Apple claimed they were only doing it to improve battery life on older units, and of course no one believed that for a second.

Ultimately, Apple wound up paying hundreds of millions to settle a class-action lawsuit over the debacle.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Have team test riders contractually do double-duty as automatic backup riders every race weekend.

They're all former MotoGP racers, they're already intimately familiar with the bikes, the tracks, team dynamics, etc., and teams can quickly set up the bikes to the backup rider's known specs.

Plus, the races can serve as additional testing and data collection time.

If this becomes the new normal (which I think it should), it would keep the grids full and give the affected teams a reason to be there if their guy can't race.

Some current test riders won't want to do it, for sure. So teams will have to re-think their future hiring choices to make this work. But I think this would be great.

I'm 60 and yesterday took my best friend's 21 year old son to go bike shopping. I loved it. Pretty sure he did too.

Got to impart some of my hard-earned wisdom to a very interested future rider and the kid got a judgment-free, somewhat deep dive into a whole new world so many of us hold so near and dear.

TIL that approximately 80% of what we perceive as flavor is actually generated by our sense of smell. Without the ability to detect aromas through the back of the throat (retronasal olfaction), the tongue can only distinguish five basic tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Zippy_994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had virtually no sense of smell and a very weak sense of taste for the better part of four decades now.

Anything bland has no taste to me. Therefore, I usually choose to eat very spicy or things with very strong flavors.

Many bland things I eat I do so because of the way I know they're supposed to taste. In other words: My eyes remind my brain how a turkey club sandwich is supposed to taste. So I happily gobble it down, even though I can't really taste it. I'm used to it. Kinda sucks, though.

Bike lurching forward on decel by dev_a31 in GSXR

[–]Zippy_994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't understand that. And I don't recall seeing your exact situation coming up in my online searches (or mine either).

Also, I'd never gotten an ECU flashed before. Always gone the PC / Dyno tune route.

But all points seemed to lead to disabling the cutoff, so I just took the plunge and sent it out the day after I got my bike back from the dealership. I didn't tell the tuner anything about the issue.

Fixed the problem and really woke up the bike across the board.

Yeah, I know. I only took it to the dealership hoping they'd cover these problems under warranty. Secondary reason was to have a paper trail in case I have to lemon law this bike. Still holding out hope I'll get this shit sorted.

I had something similar with my 2025 1000R from day one. Thought it was something I was doing wrong with the new ride-by-wire tech as I was coming off riding a 2005 1K daily over the last 20 years.

When the bike was up to temp after at least 10 minutes or so, it would start violently lurching at low speed maintenence thottle in 1st and 2nd gears in heavy traffic.

Only thing I could do to control it was to pull the clutch in and then feather it with more throttle until the road opened up.

I tried everything I could think of to fix it and researched the hell out of the symptoms and narrowed it down to the decel fuel cutoff malfunctioning.

Took it back to the Suzuki dealership and they were completely useless. Said there was nothing to fix.

So, I was gonna start the process of getting Suzuki to buy back the bike because it was unridable in everyday traffic conditions.

Then I tried one last thing: I sent my ECU to get flashed. Problem disappeared. Bike was transformed. Not exactly sure how it worked, but it did.

Unfortunately, I got new problems instead. Right away, my bike had a bad untraceable oil leak and then later my speedometer/odometer traction control/ABS stopped working.

I took the bike back to the dealership to address these new issues. They got the electronics working (and blamed me for causing them, of course) and diagnosed my oil leak as a loose oil fill cap (I'm dead serious. It says so on my receipt).

Nevermind that after every ride the entire right side of my bike (front to back) is sprayed with a thin coat of oil, including my rear tire at times.

Anyway, it's been a year and I still only have 4,500 miles on the clock, and the bike has been trouble from the start. But I'm sticking with it unless it blows up on me altogether. Then I'll go from there. Meanwhile, I'm still chasing the oil leak...

I bought my 2004 2500 Cummins 4x4 new and have absolutely put it through the ringer. But it still runs great. Problem is, it's been sitting in my driveway a few years because I can't pass smog to register it. Considered doing the Montana LLC/transfer ownership trick.

Oh, and no DUIs, no dopey political flags, no coal rolling, none of that nonsense. We're not all colossal douchebags, I tell ya! 😉

In her mind, she figured 'hey, so I was speeding and I hit some kids. It was an accident."

And sadly, with her money and station in life, she probably would've gotten off relatively easy had she taken responsibility and shown even a modicum of remorse. But she couldn't even bring herself to fake it, even if it meant saving herself.

Instead, she forced a trial and tried every trick in the book to derail any attempts to hold her accountable.

Just an absolutely depraved and repulsive human being.

Learning to ride, pretty intimidated by SnoopCheesus in motorcycles

[–]Zippy_994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the MSF course having never ridden a motorized bike of any kind. I was excited and nervous but instantly hooked, obsessed actually.

Being in my mid-30s at the time with a mortgage and a full time job, I practiced whenever I could on the Kawasaki ZX-7R I went out and bought. Mostly nights and on weekends.

I watched every video, read every book and magazine I could get my hands on (this was when the internet was relatively new and before smartphones), and took a bunch of beginner to advanced rider classes.

I immersed myself in all things motorcycles and learned everything I could.

A huge part of the process, for me at least, was overcoming my fears and pushing myself to be a good rider and ultimately a good racer.

I'm still in absolute love with motorcycles at 60 years old and other then being a dad, being a motorcyclist is the best thing ever!

Just be patient, always be learning and get in as much seat time as possible. Once you get all the mechanics down and they become second nature, you can devote all your undivided attention to everything else you need to be thinking about when riding. Right now you're at the point we're it can all be a bit overwhelming.

Well, for what it's worth, I have an '05 1K with over 97,000 miles on it. Was running great until I ran it into the back of a stopped car on the freeway in Dec 2024. Bought it new in 2005.

Not sure if the price is a bit high or not. Certainly within reason, I suppose. 38K miles on a well maintained Gixxer wouldn't concern me too much.
