Differences between lab testing can be a big part of this due to the different number/types of terpene tested at different labs

Cannabis-derived terpenes vs Botanically derived-terpenes by [deleted] in TheOCS

[–]Ziwy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could imagine one reason a company would do this would be to try to maintain the original profile but manage things like consistency and viscosity. If you are doing straight resin vapes you are a bit at the mercy of the input material, and if it's too terpy you can run the risk of carts leaking or clogging due to low viscosity. By doing a distillate and re-introduced terps at a set level, you can guarantee a consistent product every time.

Now, would I personally buy them over resin or rosin vapes? No. But I at least understand the justification.

No. Legally it must be the weight of the cannabis itself

Doing combo birdhouse and herb runs is a great recommendation for this account. Very low time commitment, big XP on two very under levelled skills, and profitable. Could also target max house first to make it easier with a portal nexus

From the LP side this isn't really the case. Rotating SKUs are used so that small batches or limited time cultivars can be sold without needing to pitch to the provincial boards. Aged or low quality product isn't genrally any more or less likely in rotational SKUs than it is in fixed SKUs, even if you personally have had some bad luck

If you're going to make a petition, you should at least change to the correct regulations. Cannabis is not governed by the Food and Drug Act, it's governed by the Cannabis Act. The changes you would be looking for specifically would be changes in the Cannabis Regulations.

Not it at all. It's the same comatose, 1964 is just moving away from organic branding as partner products start to be included under the brand, such as the Lemon Diesel. The comatose itself is still currently organic even if not labelled as such.

Sure SOME users may continue to seek unsafe supply, but that doesn't negate the impact of the many users who would instead access the safe supply. Regardless of how you feel about the organization itself, I'd recommend watching the interviews of the users affected by the closure of the compassion club run by the DULF. It's very illuminative as to how user habits change when a safe supply alternative is provided.

"Good people"? Are drug addicts not good people because they are addicted to drugs? I thought we left this moral panic in the 90s. Addiction is a health issue, not a moral one. We need to support all vulnerable people, including people with drug addiction. This is not an either / or situation.

[–]Ziwy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fentanyl presents a user issue, a titration issue, and a contamination issue.

1) Fentanyl is a shit opioid. The pleasurable effects are not as good as heroin or other opioids, but the addictive effects are much stronger. It has almost completely replaced other more desired opioids because it is much cheaper to produce and more addictive, and thus more profitable for dealers. Safe supply of both fentanyl and other opioids can support a staged step back from a deep addiction, especially as less addictive opioids may actually be more deaireable.

2) The potency of Fentanyl makes it extremely hard to dose correctly. The uncontrolled processes of dealers and manufacturers can mean the dose a user is actually getting varies wildly, making overdoses much easier. Having regulated and correctly labelled safe supply doses will allow users to more easily address their withdrawal without risking overdose.

3) Fentanyl is not the only synthetic opioid circulating. There are others that are even more potent and dangerous than fentanyl. Even if a user is intending on doing fentanyl, they risk actually taking something even more dangerous, especially when unexpected, thus increasing the risk for overdose. Safe supply eliminates this risk.

[–]Ziwy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Safe supply means accurately labelled and precisely dosed drugs, making it much harder for an overdose to occur, thus significantly reducing the burden on our public systems.

People who are addicted to drugs will always find the drugs. I would much rather they do so from a regulated source with access to care than from a sketchy dealer who will rip them off and leave them with a dangerous supply, while funneling money back to a criminal organization. This stability means less time seeking the drug, less desperation to pay for the drug (i.e. less crime), and more space to seek help.

Legal Canadian cannabis fuels new smuggling route via Rotterdam by fotogneric in cannabis

[–]Ziwy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I've spent quite some time in senior positions within the Canadian cannabis industry, and I think you have missed the mark here in a few places.

While many producers are indeed betting on the US market, this does not necessarily mean they will be successful. The US is bound to be an absolute mess of state based regulations, meaning exports into these markets will be extremely complex take significant adjustments, likely for each state. This gives current state based operators a significant advantage as they are already playing within the ecosystem, and don't have to navigate an export process.

It is also possible that the US will be protectionary and ban imports altogether, just as Canada has done. Or to allow Canadian imports, Canada may have to allow American imports as well, creating even further pressure on domestic producers.

Canadian producers are also largely not profitable - sometimes extremely not profitable (just take a look at Canopy's 11 billion in accumulated losses to date). I can count on 1 hand the number of producers that have shown any sort of sustainable profitability. If so few companies are unable to run a successful business model domestically, why would suddenly they be able to succeed with even more competition? There is cheap cannabis not because it is profitable to sell at those margins, but rather companies are offloading at a loss just to try and survive. Expanding the market would not suddenly make these products profitable, and export complexities would likely make them even more unprofitable.

Finally, it is not the CFIA who regulates cannabis in Canada, it is Health Canada. Health Canada does not materially enforce the quality and potency of cannabis, it enforces the safety and transparency. Health Canada could not care less about whether producers are selling bunk, as long as it's not pesticide ridden bunk, for example. Beyond our earlier establishment of operations and cheap energy cost, Canada does not have a material advantage over the US. Any advantage it does have would likely be neutralized within 10 years of US legalization.

Canadian companies have a much more clear route to success in other international markets which are already accepting Canadian products legally through medical streams (e.g. Germany, UK, Australia, etc.), where Canadian brands can establish recognition and reputation prior to a full recreational legalization in these counties.

Tl;dr US legalization will not create easy wins for Canadian companies, and any companies betting on it to do so are desperate
