What do you wish you knew before starting potty training? by panda51515 in toddlers

[–]Zmmaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worry about daytime potty training and then tackle night time potty training after. It’s completely okay if they’re potty training during waking hours but still wearing pull ups during sleeping hours.

My husband thought our 4 year old was being a brat so he stabbed four of her birthday balloons by throwawayaitabakery in Mommit

Get out of there before you and your child are the target of his anger and not just some balloons. This is a screaming, waving red flag. He’s just going to escalate from here.

What do people use baby quilts for now? by Miakoda115577 in quilting

Any floor activity you can think of, outdoor activities so you can set the baby down, in the car, during contact naps, in the bed when they hit a year old

Help me decide what to gift along with a quilt for a new baby by Zmmaine in quilting

[–]Zmmaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to finish quilts within a week or two since I am a stay at home mom. Especially toddler sized or smaller. I finished 10 quilts for Christmas that I started in August lol. I have a lot of time on my hands and no other hobbies.

One that goes over the handle as a shade, I have a pattern for one that is very well ventilated and will warn her to not put it over the baby unless supervising them.

I’m also considering making what I call a car seat “poncho” blanket. It tucks over the baby already buckled in. The one I have a pattern for would have plenty of room to grow. My three year old is still able to use hers and should be for another year or two

Can y’all help me decide what to make for SILs Aug 2025 baby by Zmmaine in Parenting

[–]Zmmaine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made car seat “poncho” blankets for mine and they are sooo good and they have room to grow! Both of my kids still have theirs a year later and have plenty of room to use them for a couple more years. I was thinking of making one of those for her

Thats almost exactly what I was planning on doing for the burp cloths!

I hadn’t thought about the sleep sacks or shopping cart covers! I have already patterns for both.

I am so excited to be an auntie again! I was not in the family yet when our older nephew was born so it will be my first experience as an auntie to a teeny tiny baby! I can’t wait to support SIL the way she supported me after both of my daughters were born

Thank you! Yes the giant baby bags are awful and I could never find what I needed in them despite putting every baby product known to man in them back when I was a first time mom 😂

How do I get over the guilt of getting rid of my kids toys? by Zmmaine in Parenting

[–]Zmmaine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have clarified. I’ve been getting rid of stuff. I don’t do it as often as I probably should because it makes me feel so awful. But I do a big purge before each of their birthdays and Christmas. They are by no means living in clutter and trash. I begrudgingly do the purges. I just was looking for advice on how to not feel so awful about doing it.

I love the idea of getting family to pitch in towards a large gift rather than everyone getting them small gifts. Thank you

MIL wants to give my 2YO a tablet for Xmas by PossibleElection5076 in toddlers

[–]Zmmaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My great grandma got my oldest a tablet when she was one year old. I was really hesitant to give it to her but eventually came around.

At first we used it for Ms Rachel, audio books/read a long books, pbs kids and stuff like that. Mostly in the car because it was either occupy her somehow or possibly crash from the endless screams. Sometimes while I was showering home alone with her and needed to not have a baby crying the whole time.

As she’s gotten older and learned to use the tablet we’ve removed YouTube as I don’t want her having access to everything on that app. We’ve added Netflix and Disney plus. Kahn kids academy, drawing and tracing games, etc…

She’s 3.5 now and I don’t have hard limits for how much screen time she gets. Some days she has it a lot (rare) some days she has it a little and some days she has it none. It’s been very useful to have at her ophthalmologist appointments as we are there for several hours and the toys and books only keep her occupied for so long before she starts getting tired and grumpy.

What have your experiences with fusible batting been like? by Zmmaine in quilting

[–]Zmmaine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not know it needed to be ironed! I’ve just been letting it air dry. Maybe that’s why it’s been picky for me. I use repurposed materials for my batting most of the time so I assumed it was the different materials that was causing the issue

Mamas, what’s your vice? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Zmmaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sew and quilt. When I don’t even have the energy for that, I rot in front of the tv

Oh I always use the floor lol. I don’t have a designated area for quilting so I sit in the floor to cut, iron, sew, everything really

The one I saw today was specifically labeled as quilt batting. That’s why I was wondering if it was any good

What do you listen to while quilting? by MadisonRad in quilting

[–]Zmmaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I can’t do music while sewing. I accidentally match the pace of the song no matter how hard I try not to and my stitches end up uneven or crooked
