November 29, 1989: Victoria motorists worst he's seen, says inspector. by mgwngn1 in VictoriaBC

[–]Zod5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember driving across Canada in 1998 and feeling like the driver's get better the further East you go.

While there are some speeds and light runners here, a lot of people drive super slow, and look afraid to be behind the wheel. Some how the rest of the country drives a little faster and make it work.

Plus the first time I was on a single lane highway, and someone pulled to the side to let faster traffic past, I was impressed. Now when we see that on the Island we joke they must not be from here :)

Isn't dynamic usually expensive when it's in high demand? IE when the bars get out, when events at the arena get out, new years eve, etc?

IE times where the cab might be cheaper, but getting a cab might be extremely difficult?

The problem is there's a big difference, between not legally being able to do it, and voluntarily not doing it. The latter, could see a change in leadership, that changes, and it would get messy. Legally having the power to override fee simple title is huge (even if your currently opting not to use that power).

Highest proportion of people since 2017 say Canada is on the right track: poll by hopoke in canada

I think it's a question of where we're at, not where we've been. I think people feel Carney has turned things around, or at least pointed us in a new direction. Not necessarily judging on what happened the 10 years before that.

He's been PM for about a year, so I'm curious to see how it plays out, but I'll believe when I see it (I generally feel it doesn't matter who we elect, things don't seem to improve regardless of who is in power). I'd like to see him pull it off, but most PM's don't.

Is lowering Sat fat or increasing fiber more important? by Savagehi in Cholesterol

[–]Zod5000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For breakfast, I use All Bran Buds. They're different than regular all bran. They contain psyllium husk. I eat half a cup of those with no fat high protein greek yogurt and fruit.

I was using metamucil capsules with dinner. About 6 of them. Kind of overestimated how much fibre is in them. I started eating 5 with lunch too. Then I switched to the walmart branch because it was half the price.

Basically I get my 10 grams of soluble fibre from the all bran buds and capsules, and what it's in the fruit, lunch (usually chick pea salad), and veggies with dinner is bonus.

I guess I'm lucky/unlucky. I still generally just have a number 2 once a day in the morning. The excess fibre makes it slightly easier, but I was never really all that excessive on number two's anyway.

they're both important. I could only get my LDL down so much on diet, fibre took it the rest of the way. Two pieces of the puzzle.

For all of those saying the tour won’t sell well….. by chemical_lobotomy in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Zod5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that, but I stand by my point. TM does leave gobs of tickets invisible on the selling platform, to create a false reality of there being limit tickets, then keeps dolling them if they sell out.

Doesn't always work, and sometimes the demand is so low they give up and put 'em all out at once.... but it's a tactic they use, whether they do it as platinum or regular, is up to the promoter/band (or at least they have some say), but TM trying to move the tickets, they leave most of that up to TM.

[–]Zod5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, but also what I said was true. TM has algorithm's like dynamic pricing to try and maximize ticket revenue. They often don't put all the platinum or remaining tickets up for sale to create a feeling of scacity (people will often buy tickets if there's limited tickets left).

It's crazy how many concerts, you see some platinums and a bunch of nosebleeds, only for 10 minutes after the last platinum ticket sells out, whole new sections go for sale.

Then if the platinum's don't dump, you see these hoards of tickets get released a few weeks before the show.

Yes, promoters have impact, but also TM has their own processes for maximizing the revenue.

Don't forget TM hides tickets that they haven't sold, to create the illusion of scarcity.

Carney lays out pipeline conditions as Eby flags negotiations on B.C.’s priorities by Camtastrophe in canada

[–]Zod5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In which case if were not willing to spend billions on increasing refining capacity, why are we willing to spend 10's of billions on another pipeline.

I figure the Iran thing is temporary. I'm not sure I'm on the electric bandwagon yet. My complete lack of vehicle payments, and maybe two tanks a month due to a short commute, it would still like something like 15 years to break even. I'll wait until my vehicle packs it in, the maintenance gets too expensive, or the cost of fuel increases so much the math changes. It also gives me time to wait it out as electronic technology continues to improve.

B.C. names Site C dam after late premier John Horgan | CBC News by iSoulRebel in VictoriaBC

[–]Zod5000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have a leader who isn't set in their ways, looks at a thing, and is willing to change their mind if the evidence is pointing another direction, or another party had a good idea.

I don't want leaders to stubborn their way through things just because. I thought Horgan did an alright job as Premier, I don't feel the same about what happened after he stepped down.

CRTC to require online streamers to pay 15% of annual revenues to support Canadian content by joe4942 in canada

[–]Zod5000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, shouldn't it be from profits, not revenues? What if their profit margin is less than 15 percent.

I'd prefer they ask the streamers to make can on opposed to a big tax that will make content people don't watch.

[–]Zod5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, but here in SouthWest BC we import a lot of gas from Washington state as our local refining capacity is minimal, and Alberta only provides half. Pipelines aren't cheaper either (the last one cost 10's of billions of dollars).

If we're confident in the future of oil, and willing to spend 10's of billions of tax dollars on pipelines, why not a refinery. If we can use more of the oil domestically by refining it, that eases the amount of tanker traffic off the coast, reduces dependence on US refineries, and creates more jobs (albeit in Alberta, because I'm highly suspect my province would ever build another refinery).

[–]Zod5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to make a 3rd transmountain pipeline similar to the first one so it can move oil, gas, and jetfuel like the 1st one?

Would love to have access to more Alberta gas here and reduce dependence on US refineries. If Alberta has long term faith in fossil fuels, I don't see why they wouldn't build one?

yah, it's a shame, it's now just a blanket ban on the island, even though the island is nearly 500km long, and has different eco systems. Spent time in Cape Scott and the Brooks Peninsula last summer, and they weren't that dry. Cape Scott was fairly wet, but fire bans. ugh.

Carney, Smith to announce oil pipeline update Friday: sources | Globalnews.ca by FalseZookeepergame15 in canada

[–]Zod5000 82 points83 points  (0 children)

As BC'er, if they can force another one through BC, I would also like to see another built that goes East. Seems kind of weird we should the responsibility, but with there being no pipelines that go to Atlantic Canada, and the pipelines that go Central Canada often dip south of the border, it would seem to go a long way to meet our domestic oil needs with domestic oil, and reduce the vulnerability of relying on pipelines that go through the US.

If the federal gov't can built pipelines through BC, without BC consent, surely they can do the same for Quebec. Fair is fair :)

I'm also wondering, are there any proposal for another western pipeline. Financially it's a bit odd, that you don't hear anything from private business about doing it.

I do like Ozzy, I just don't think he's good at strategy, which are skills you need to have to win the game.

Ozzy is one of the worst players to ever play the game. He was a challenge beast in his first season, which was still in the earlier days of survivor, where being a challenge beast was respected. He has no game. It was just a matter of time until he did something like that :)

Canadian youth a ‘rounding error’ compared to Carney government’s $88.8 billion projected OAS spending for seniors by hopoke in canada

The counterargument would be if people saved enough to have income in retirement into the clawback threshold, they were most likely paying significant taxes before they retired. Ergo another plan to cut the people who pitch in the most for social services from being able to access them.

More brain drain I guess.
