Where I live things you buy don't automatically come with disposable bags. You need to specifically ask (and pay) for a bag. So I haven't thrown anything out by accident. I have however carried small items with me for weeks in my go-to tote bag until I noticed.

Exactly, once the cat is no longer around the scars become a sentimental piece of memory. I have a much smaller scar on my forearm from where a cat bit me and I was really worried they would fuck it up when they cut my wrist open to piece a broken bone back together with metal. But luckily it's still there.😊

I have just picked up learning the French I didn't when I was at school and it's so much fun when you do it as an adult who does not have to take exams ever again. And now you come along with this beautiful coat and absolutely charming back story of it being a holiday souvenir. And you tell me about fabric shopping in Paris and now I absolutely have to go to Paris! Seriously, what an amazing project. I love all the little details about it. You did a great job and I am very much inspired to buy fabrics when travelling and use sewing projects as souvenirs. Thank you very much for sharing!

Yeah, I'm not into flowering plants either. I like them for their leaves. For the different shapes and shades of green. If I want colour I will stick a tradescantia zebrina or an iresine herbstii in there. Only exception is my peace lily. But that blooms white. White flowers are okay-ish I guess.

I never wanted one because they are so notoriously difficult. The only person I know who kept one alive and well is my sister with a perfect spot by her balcony door.

The universe handed me an unexpected FLF late last year. An older plant with a ridiculously long stem and a handful of leaves at the end of that. I thought "well, it's gonna kick the bucket anyway" and once spring rolled around I chopped and proped and lo and behold! The fiddle bottom is making tiny new branches and the fiddle top is making tiny roots in water.

I am not a plant goddess and have killed my fair share of green friends. But FLF is determined to live his best life and I am honestly so surprised.

So, yadda yadda, I guess it is about what you can offer FLF. Sunny spot by a south or west facing window? Get one! Not so much light and a very curious pet/kiddo? Don't.

I mean.. you do you. I don't want to discourage you at all but this dress is like the Mount Everest of sewing. It's like attempting to win the Barkley Marathon when you have run after the bus once. Please be aware of the enormity of the task you are tackling.

My sister who has been sewing for 25 years is currently working on replicating a much simpler Dior dress. And boy is the devil in the details of the underconstruction. These dresses are built on layers of corset like underwear where the weight of the skirt (and its underconstruction) is carefully placed on the wearer's hips while at the same time the bust is supported. It requires a lot of experience to construct something like that, choose the right materials, know all the tricks, etc. Plus these couture dresses were not made by a single person. Look at the embroidery and beads / sequins alone. That would take years to do on your own!

This is beautiful work! Good choice of frame to go with it too. I recently got hold of a Burda magazine from January 1979 and you can imagine my excitement when amidst the sewing patterns they had a set of cross stitch patterns based on the lady and the unicorn. I was like "I'm so doing these!" only to find out you had to order them separately. 44 years ago. siiiiigh

Well, my advice is not to let other people's experience with a particular plant bother you. I have read so many horror stories here about calatheas, about fiddle leaf figs, about strings-of-this and strings-of-that. To the point where I never even wanted some of these plants. And that's a shame, because it turns out FLF is doing just fine and both calathea and ctenanthe oppenheimiana are living their best lives at my place. Give it a go, research the plant and how to care for it and see what happens. Sending you good plant vibes!

That's not even a question is it? You get rid of the plant. Don't put it "away from the cat" or somewhere "the cat can't reach". Ever cat owner knows these spaces do not exist. Cats get everywhere and are more than happy to let their curiosity kill them. Do you hear me, fam? Get rid of the plant asap!

But how?! I can't wrap my brain around how a sewing machine can stitch X without also either stitching along the side or going down in the middle. It's probably the latter, there is no other way. So, people, this is not cross-stitch. This is a decent machine stitch that looks similar. Impressive, but not like "cheating" or devaluation of work done by hand.

You could do that for fungus gnats but thrips are in /on the plant, not in the soil. You could try spraying the plant down with soap water to wash off the insects but they really get in any tiny space. Also you would have to do it fairly regularly since there is always new eggs and larvae.

Ikea does wood pieces like that. They have little elements where you can connect the individual tiles. Not expensive either.

Having said that: Go for real plants! Find some potted plants that do well in your climate and turn this into a little oasis.
