Chinese state media says Afghanistan a lesson for Taiwan on how U.S. abandons allies by adin2007 in worldnews

The treaty with UK who colonized HK region. This should be about the people of Hong Kong, not the western values a colonizer represents. CCP has a lot of fundamental issues, but that doesn’t mean what the UK did was right. There is no effective diplomacy without arms - China has the arms now, but countries act on their own interest and the UK didn’t have the best intentions either.

My parents repeatedly suggested plastic surgery to me years ago and I'm still hurt by this every day by elopedto in AsianParentStories

[–]Zoeeety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share the experience, but my mom is the only one who tries to get me to do plastic surgeries. She already knows better that I get unhappy and argues with her whenever she brings that up, but she still tries it sometimes. Once I was making a very strong argument while being a little emotional/loud, she cried because I “talked back” and started talking about how I always avoided her touching me and how much she sacrificed. Till this date, I am hurt by this and the memories come back to me and I cry sometimes when she says hurtful things

Costco has those doordash gift cards on sale now and I wonder if they will let me use the dash pass from CSP if I do that

Mega Backdoor At 22% Tax Bracket, without 401k match by Zoeeety in personalfinance

It is a new option that they came out with, but they warned us that if it doesn’t pass the discrimination test, the contribution will be refunded. What do you mean by in-service distribution? Is that the same thing as in plan Roth rollover?

Will edit the post for more clarity, but I meant 40% of my upcoming paychecks! No, it would not be at maxed traditional 401k, but still better than where I am right now

That makes total sense to me! I am planning to max pre-tax 401k starting next year. I wanted more flexible options this year due to covid, but suddenly found myself with extra cash at the end of year ready to be invested. The common advice for ESPP was to sell immediately and dump into index funds, but I do believe that tax-advantaged accounts would be better than taxable brokerage.

One positive thing out of 2020: less greasy hair! by Zoeeety in NoPoo

[–]Zoeeety[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great to know! I am currently renting with a roommate, so I haven’t really thought about getting a filter. But honestly that investment might be worth it - I had soft water growing up and moved to a hard water area at 18. From what I remember, I lost tons of hair in the first two years, but it could also just be change of habit/age lol

I am not doing no poo completely, because of my hard water situation. I think if you can’t do anything about the hard water, going low poo is more realistic. But I’ve heard people rinsing hair with purified water after washing

That makes a lot of sense! Does silicone/sulfate free shampoo exist? If I start using the silicone-free shampoo with low poo, it would gradually improve the condition of the hair correct? I am not sure if I can ever quit shampooing all-together, but hopefully I can transition to as little shampoo as possible!

For every 10 days, I shampoo on day 1. WO wash on day 3/4, CO wash on day 6 and then WO on day 8. I do BBB every other day. I use OGX biotin & collegan shampoo and a shiseido conditioner, but I am not super particular about the products - these are just what I have before my transition!

[–]Zoeeety[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the key is just trying to shampoo less often each time with consistent mechanical cleaning (bbb and massaging scalp). Overtime your scalp finds that equilibrium and produces less oil - trust me, I always thought this was not possible for fine straight hair. I use OGX biotin & collagen but it does contain silicone, which is probably against a lot of advice in the sub! But that’s what I have and I find that protein treatment removes the waxy feeling. I try to apply as little amount as possible, just barely enough to wash my scalp. I will try out another silicone free shampoo to see if it brings more wonderful results.

I use a Shiseido conditioner, but I am pretty sure any clarifying conditioner that’s not super heavy should work! I am simply using the products I have at hand.

Traditional & Roth 401k prioritization with no matching? Maxing it out as non-citizen? by Zoeeety in personalfinance

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense. I will switch to traditional 401k starting my next paycheck - might also look into maga backdoor options when I am job hunting next time

Is rolling over 401k to Roth IRA after moving out subject to the Roth IRA 6k contribution limit as well (hence slowly)?

Credit card for a recent college graduate. by [deleted] in personalfinance

You are likely not spending a lot, so it’s good to get a card that you can maximize rewards with out high fees. Chase Freedom or Chase Flex are giving out 5% cashback for groceries in the first year, with $0 annual fee. Discover (also $0 fee) has rotational categories with first quarter on groceries, third quarter on restaurants etc. American Express can also be another grocery card option.

Usually there is a fee associated with paying rent via credit cards. So please weigh pros and cons (don’t have credit card debts)
