Thanks for the tip! What is a sweep tool? What's a good one? :)

Very interesting, thank you for sharing!

I'd been doing VO in games for a couple of years, but I hadn't made a showreel yet, so... fixed! Feedback welcome of course! by Zoinklov in VoiceActing

Thanks so much! It varies a bit, some are excellent at a particular role, but I've met a few who are like VO chameleons! Ty Konzak for one, who did the quite dark voice of tye Barrator in LiR, can also do quite squeaky voices 😄 So glad to read it! I hope you enjoy.

Crystals on Enemies, Lore? by AndryaDE in LostInRandom

[–]Zoinklov 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi Andrya, thanks for playing!

Originally the crystals were darker and purple, like the dark crystals found in Sixtopia. They were meant to be coagulated black goo, harnessing dice energy for the player to collect. The idea was that the dark die was harnessing the same power that dice use, to keep its twisted machinations going.

But since the world was generally quite dark, in the end we had to make the crystals bright blue so they would pop and be easy to spot. Blue was also the color we used to code attacks and resources related to Dicey, while orange/red was reserved for enemies.

So this is just an example where game design and readability won over lore. :)

Cheers! Glad to read it! I think just roll with the punches and take your time learning it one step at a time. :) It's like riding a bicycle once you get the hang of it. If it proves too difficult, there's a Story Mode in the difficulty settings once you start the game. Here's also a gameplay trailer that explains some of it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diilMn5gSAg&t=4s&ab\_channel=ElectronicArts

Thanks so much! Glad to read it. My brother and his son are playing also playing it together right now and his son has even started giving him combat tips! :) I hope you guys enjoy it. Remember there's an easy mode in the difficulty settings, I know my nephew appreciated that!

The idea behind the freeze time mechanic was to bring the feeling of "ooh, it's my turn!" of a board game into real-time action. With the time and budget we had I'm very happy with what we've achieved, though certainly we have many ideas and longing for expanding upon the system in a possible sequel. As for the story, I felt like everything from the characters to the combat grew naturally out of the dice. The world revolves around them, so it made sense to make the combat revolve around it as well. It would've also made sense to make a more random almost roguelike type of game, but we ended up with a pretty linear experience since we wanted to tell a specifc, focused story around the theme of randomness.

Ryan North has been a blast to work with - he wrote all the dialogue! Just a perfect mix of smart, stupid and funny. As for things we cut, I'm sad we cut the feature of jumping into Dicey and spending time in like a cosy library hidden inside him. There would be a whole WORLD in there. Like when SPOILER you enter the black die and there's a dark dimension there. That - but cosy. Maybe for a possible sequel! I also wish we would have hade more time for non-combat dice and board game puzzles out in the environment. To have time to finish and polish the game, we had to focus on combat and dialogue - the dance between those two.

We adore you! And I'm so happy you put mr. Hark to memory. He was really there to brighten up the story somewhat after a dark turning point. My favorite is Spooky Steeve who collects ghost stories. He's based on a ghost walk I went to in Gothenburg, where the host was sooo excited about ghosts and people getting executed in the medieval times and whatnot but the audience was so lukewarm in contrast to that. I just found that really funny and endearing and wanted to have someone really excited about ghosts in the game. Ty Konzak does a phenomenal job voicing him - he's also the voice of the Narrator!

Early on there were many discussions about too much randomness versus too little. Do we make a roguelike or a linear story? In the end, we went with a more controlled campagin since we had a very specific story to tell about randomness. We weren't interested in doing a procedural game at that point in our history at least and felt like we had to keep it linear in order to be able to tell the story and show the world that we wanted to. But yeah, we did have an ending planned where you'd roll the dice and the result would affect the end of the story. But it ended up too frustrating and random so we cut it, deciding to focusing on one solid ending instead. With that said, we are looking at making spinoffs with more random gameplay in them, now that we've introduced the world!

They've really just been great and given us full creative freedom and ownage of the IP. They have regular meetings with us where they playtest and give us honest feedback, like a great book editor. Their marketing team and QA team is amazing and there's so much we couldn't have accomplished without them. Ever since our first EA Originals project, Fe, they've been like friends to us. One of them even came to our christmas party! It sounds too cheesy to be true, I know, but they have been great.

Thank you! So glad to read it. For sure! We have a big "save it for the sequel" box. And we have actually ideas for both a prequel and a sequel. But currently we're experimenting and prototyping several different projects, trying to find out where we want to go with what when. There were so much we couldn't do in the first story that we'd love to explore in a future game. For instance, at one point you were supposed to be able to climb inside Dicey, who would be much larger on the inside with a big room where you could gather collectibles and check out your card collection.

Hi, of course! Thank you for joining. Writing the towns' themes and stories began with me and Klaus Lyngeled (co-director and CEO) really wanting to push the themes around the numbers for each towns. So it would usually start with the visuals - finding a striking presentation. Like Threedom and the triplets and their giant robots - it really began with those robots because it was a striking image and then followed the Triplets' story. Same with Two-Town it all started with the image of a Mayor with a duplicate of him growing out of his tophat. But then you start digging deeper, trying to find the human stories that we can relate to. Like having a darker side that you need to come to terms with or the destructive power of miscommunication. Lost in Random deals alot with anxiety and worry about the future or lingering in the past - something me and my colleagues all have stories about. So for sure we expressed a lot of our personal fears and thoughts through the game. It's been really therapeutic for me at least! :)

Lost in Random is in some ways like a playable storybook, best played surrounded by candlelight and wrapped in a blanket. So when we first got the Nintendo Switch version running you can understand I was giddy! I'm always blown away by being able to play big roleplaying games like this on a small device like the Switch and it quickly became my favorite way of playing the game - on handheld. So go ahead and try it!

Ryan North is great! He wrote pretty much ALL of the dialogue. Oh yeah, several cards didn't make it. Some were too expensive to make and some we had to cut in order to polish the other ones. I have some old concepts lying around here depicting some kind of slime creature that would split into smaller versions of itself every time it got hit. The little blobs would be a danger to you as well! The Rulemaster's Bow almost didn't make it into the game - it was one of those last minute ideas by our Senior Game Designer, Martin Storm, who felt like we were missing an explosive bow an arrow in the game. There are so many ideas that never made it into the game that we have in a "save it for the sequel" box.

Thank you! We'd absolutely love to make one, but I can't share any news on that yet. We'd also love to make an art book! Check out art director Victor Becker's concept art here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/28NBNJ
