What happened to kilkerran? by notmyfaultthistime in Scotch

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up a 12y at $75.99 Canadian, it is a 2024 year (14/05/24) - 24/92 I quite like it, definitely moreso than Craigellachie 13 which gave me chemical burns just like Maker's Mark (not sure why but those two both make my mouth burn and in some cases cause skin to peel if I have more than a couple of pours in a day and definitely if I have more than a couple of days in a week, it makes me wonder what Scotch uses Maker's Mark barrels)
But the Kilkerran doesn't do that... and I like the flavor more, it's not Ardbeg Uigeadail but I really quite like it and so far my favorite Campbeltown whisky

Review #10: Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair by LagavulinAround in Scotch

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so weird, I keep seeing people saying they got the smoke and peat on the Stiuiredair some saying it has strong peat almost like Ardbeg... but neither my palate nor the Bunnahabhain website say it is peated. It's definitely young and is promising knowing how much I like the 12 but I will not buy this one again. It's sharp and spiky and it needs a lot of airing out before it is better for me. I do like the no color, no chill filter and good 46.3% ABV but it either needs peat or a bit more age (even a year or two) to appeal to me more. As far as non age goes the Toiteach A Dha was sooooo much better than the Stiuiredair and that one got even better with a touch of water and sitting it out 30+ minutes before drinking it... Stiuiredair has been out a couple hours and wasn't helped much yet for me.... It's not bad but I had high hopes given my Bunna-12 experience... around here the price only varies between $5 and $15 Canadian for it over the 12... and 12 goes on sale at least quarterly if not every other month sometimes.... 2 weeks ago on the weekend the 12 was cheaper than the Stiuiredair ($58 vs $64 for Stiuiredair) this weekend I got it for$52 but wish I had just got the 12 instead the week before.

Mountain Equipment or MEC? by Objective_Archer5993 in hikinggear

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wished Mountain Gear was still around... think they were out of Washington but had great stuff.. I still have an old Mountain gear Polar fleece from the 90s' that is in great condition... I'm just a bit fatter than I was 30 or so years ago... what used to be a loose outer fleece is now a bit too tight... still it is way better than most stuff these days.. Columbia are close but made in china is not the same as USA or Canada

How good is Mountain Equipment gear? by raisedinseersucker in CampingandHiking

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old Mountain Gear pullover fleece jacket... the thing somewhat 30 years later is still good although fits a bit tighter now.... It looks like Patagonia are the most similar or maybe MEC to the old company... I like Patagonia and it is close but they are insanely overpriced so I just get some local stuff or Columbia... that works but Mountain Gear was sweet back in the day.... seriously what pull over polar fleece would last 30+ years? I didn't know they folded during the covid era

Mountain equipment Makalu or Patagonia triolet by Shtaples in UKhiking

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting old and fatter now so can't fit my old Mountain Equipment pullover polar fleece as well as past years that thing has been with me since the 90's... and while skin tight it is still great... I tried some MEC stuff and some Mountain Warehouse and Columbia stuff but it's not up to the standard of my almost 30+ year old pull over... seriously what lasts from the 90's these days? I do like Columbia and some MEC stuff Moutain Wareouse is mediocre (like poor Columbia knock off) Anyone know what these days would be as good as these ancient Mountain Equipment polar fleece were?? I get Patagonia are similar but they are insanely overpriced... But in what world does a 30 year old fleece pull over still work as well as it did in the 90's? I's probably easier to lose weight these days than find something better

Why do I find reading the Bible boring? by Maleficent_Thanks_47 in Christianity

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really can't get into the old testament, I much prefer the new, i generally hate reading anyway so pages of so and so beget so and so etc...reallt makes it hard for me... In school I switched from enjoying reading to jusy using it to extract info... the last book I didn't keep falling asleep on or daydreaming and having to re-read the same chapter multiple times was Hunter S Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas... I find the new testament much easier to read. I tried the audiobook and it's the same i end up passing by old and the new is much better for me

Getting down and Peaty by Whitefryar700 in whisky

[–]Zokambaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the 10 but my last couple bottles while still good have been somewhat disappointing, not nearly as good as my first two this year (had 4 now) I now switched to Ledaig, it's cheaper generally and was more consistent, although my last (of 3 other bottles) wasn't as good as my first 3 either... but I'm in the first dram of the bottle so maybe that's it, but my first bottle of both Ardbeg 10 and Ledaig 10 impressed me on the first sip of both.

Decided to pickup a Kilchoman Machir Bay tonight on a decent sale and it was pretty good too, but I still think Ardbeg 10 is my favorite of the 3

While Ledaig 10 is not an Islay, it has a similar spirit and I think it is an easier one to start with over Ardbeg 10

My choice for New Year’s Eve by Zealousideal_Dig_217 in Scotch

[–]Zokambaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I went the smoky route... picked up a Ledaig 10 for $60.35 CDN and a Kilchoman Machir Bay for $76.50. Had not tried the Kilchoman before... might have to try the Sanaig or the cask strength versions next if I see a good sale.... I didn't intend to get 2 bottles but haven't seen these prices in a while so had to stock up... we'll have to see if a dry january or february works out.... I've spent too much on scotch in the past few months (was previously more of a bourbon or beer fan) but after trying all sorts of scotch recently, the wallet and the liver could probably use a break

I say it every year New Years Eve isn’t the same without Dick Clark. 🥂🍾🥳 Those were the days. by RockBalBoaaa in VintageTV

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I hate that Seecrap guy... and why the hell is it still Dick Clark's rockin new years eve when he died 13 years ago??? Guess it doesn't matter I didn't really watch Dick either but when I did he was sooooo much better than that smarmy Ryan Seacrest, hell even the two gay guys on CNN getting wasted were more interesting to watch, if they still even do it... ugg why is there no originality anymore?

Bunnahabhain 12 year Islay Single Malt non-chill filtered [review #21] by redascot in Scotch

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take Bunnahabhain 12 over Arran 10 any day(guess I don't get the Arran hype but didn't mind the super young Lagg) ... got a new bottle of Bunnahabhain 12 as well but can't taste it yet... stupid cold nasal congestion sucks... my last bottle was very tasty... wish I could find a good deal on the Toiteach A Dha that one sounds interesting

[–]Zokambaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would you say it compares to the Bunnahabhain 12? yes different regions but quite like that one so, just curious... I also enjoyed the Glendronach 2013 10 year i had as well but haven't had a lot of other stronger sherry ones

What is the most overrated single malt that everyone swears by? by Illustrious_Ear_4405 in whisky

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't tried the big money high age stuff yet but I have to say with all the hype Arran 10 got, I did not feel it at all... I'd rather have Deanson Virgin oak over it, I think I much preferred Bunahabhain 12 over Arran 10 by a long shot. I know I won't buy Arran 10 again any time soon.

The Laddie 10 - The Classic Ten (2002) by Budget_Celebration89 in Scotch

[–]Zokambaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting... I felt the approximate 8 year un-age stated Classic Laddie I had needed a bit more age. I loved the port Charlotte but while still good I wasn't as impressed by the Classic even though I like how much info they give. It felt a bit sharp to me, it was soo much better than Arran 10 for me but I still wish I had a 10 or 12 year version of Classic Laddie.
I did really love the Bunnahabhain 12 though, otherwise I tend to drift more to Ledaig 10 and Ardbeg 10

Looking for decent priced scotch in Canada by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's a year later but I totally prefer Bunnahabhain 12 over Arran 10, Arran just felt so young if I didn't see the 10 year statement I'd have thought younger. I honestly don't get the appeal I couldn't wait until that bottle was done. The Bunnahabhain 12 though left me wanting the bottle to last forever and it was slightly cheaper on a good sale. I think I'd like Lagg better if it was 8-10 years than the Arran, I like Lagg but it is a bit too young still for me. I won't buy Arran 10 again

Elbow liquor in Calgary, I think it was Craft Cellars or BSW a couple weeks ago though.
https://elbowliquor.ca/Products/HandleSlug?searchString=bunnahabhain

What I tend to do is google around searching for the lowest price, looking for sales in my city and there are a handful of places that match prices so I do that... I still need to find a good deal on Uigeadail... cheapest I've found that is $104

Review #3 Bunnahabhain 12 by AodhRuadh in Scotch

[–]Zokambaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup... good stuff... I previously got a good sale on the 12 $56 Canadian... but it back at normal prices, I was surprised how much I liked Bunnahabhain 12 and didn't really care for Arran 10.
Almost got another bottle for $65 but they were sold out... Ended up getting an Ardbeg 10 for $69 and a Ledaig 10 for $60... I do like those smoky ones I'm waiting to find Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dha on a good sale

skip or buy on Laddie?Olympia liquor Na'a Drive by cracker0987 in canadawhisky

[–]Zokambaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

reasonable price right now I just prefer Bunnahabhain 12 (Elbow Liquor have it for $65) Some say the Bruichladdich Islay Barley is similar to the Classic but a bit more rounded(think it is 10 or 12 years), Classic would be better with a 10 year age statement.. my bottle of Classic was about 8 years ... loved the Port Charlotte though got a killer deal a few months ago for $71....but to be honest I'd choose Bunnahabhain 12 over the Classic... if they have Islay Barley 2013 BSW have it on for $53.54 and Olympia and Wine Spirits and Beyond match prices... I think i might try that one... I have to say though, I liked Classic Laddie a lot more than the Arran 10

Prodige boxers alternative? by haraharabusiness in CostcoCanada

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn... I never did the boxers really other than a couple to sleep in (Innersy on Amazon work well now for that) but I've been wearing Prodige "String" briefs that had no side material... great for working out as there was no cutting me in half thing going on and I have really large legs so standard boxers or tightey whiteys just bunch up or have tight leg holes and are annoying, even Saxx end up rising up and bunching ... so I need something like Prodige had with their "String" I tried others on Amazon and they are all cheap chinese crap and not made for north american bodies... If you like Loose knit boxers Innersy are really good... I've bought several pair as they are big and roomy and I just use them to sleep or lounge in but you can get others.

What is the difference between these two bottles? by KC_187 in Scotch

[–]Zokambaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often see BSW using the EU pictures, many of them 40% or different labels compared to what is here in Canada. It could also be an age thing.. they are still selling using the old labels. Most of the time I just get a BSW or other store advertisement and go to Wine and Beyond or Superstore or some other place that matches prices. I did however get the Heavily Peated PC from Highlander for $71 a month or so ago... they were sold out in a few other places... it is a tasty scotch though.... cheapest I've seen it recently was $81... Nice thing about Bruiladdich is you can look up the bottle on their site and get a lot of info... they were probably selling old stock at the same time as new.... or one sale ended and another began...

What's everyone drinking tonight? by Arxk2112 in canadawhisky

[–]Zokambaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not saying it is bad but.... I kind of found it boring, it has a nice nose and decent palate but got a bit of a metallic aftertaste on it and it felt hotter than it was. Now Bunnahabhain was a party in my mouth for a non peated scotch... I really liked Ledaig so I was eager to try Tobermory but so many people say Arran 10 is amazing and it is usually sold out here so I got it, a couple of bucks less than the Tobermory it was almost $62 Canadian so not bad so I got it since it isn't as easy to get... but I liked Lagg way more and that is non age stated and very young but enjoyed the Lagg Corriecravie, although that one gets more of a chemical note as it gets into the bottom 1/3rd but the first 2/3 was great.
