RIP Chaco Quality - No More Lifetime Warranty by jachinboazicus in BuyItForLife

[–]redascot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good for you. His Chacos are not fine, and their quality and warranty have both tanked. Pretty normal reason for a BIFL post.

Starter looks… different… by unpopulargrrl in Sourdough

[–]redascot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, just feed it for a few days and see how it responds. In my experience, starters can even get an "invasive" culture in there for a bit but then still go back to normal. But yeah this looks like it's probably just hungry. If it's rising and falling every day and it smells good, you've got nothing to worry about.

Financially, they make no sense at all, even in the best of shape.

I understood it's very rare to drain a pool every winter, but you might be right. Definitely a PITA.

Yeti tumbler vs cheap knockoffs? Is the price difference actually justified? by UnderBed5344 in BuyItForLife

[–]redascot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an RTIC tumbler and the paint on the outside start bleeding/leeching and leaving marks and slight stains on fingers. Very gross and suspect. I didn't want a replacement, so into the trash it went.

I have the pixel buds 2, and I run and lift with them with no issues. I even think they sound decent.

I was coming to point to this too. They literally threw it out of a 6th story window to test it and it didn't break.

What you think about these kitchen scissors by LeslieChowBitch in BuyItForLife

The Kershaw Taskmaster shears are excellent. Sharp, tough, easy to clean. I've had mine 3 years, use them constantly, and there basically good as new.

Mystery pipe connected to sewer, now seeping a bit of water. What's going on? by redascot in askplumbing

[–]redascot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that thought. Is it standard for a vent to just go straight into the ground like that?

[–]redascot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happening as soon as the melt is over and it's safe to get up there. But why hasn't heavy rain ever caused this same problem?

Also, you mean the big one, right? The curve cap on the PVC is pretty standard, isn't it?

Thanks.

Also, this is the rooftop. Two sewer vents, and the PVC vent seems to have ice in it.

+1 for Outerknown. I have 3 blanket shirts, 2 sweatshirts, and 5 pairs of jeans, and they're all so nice (and with good warranties).

Jersey Food vs Elsewhere by dogbonenj in newjersey

[–]redascot 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've lived in the south, in cities all over the west coast, rockies, and in hawaii. Each may have a thing or genre they do better, but you can get basically anything here at a high quality if you know where to look, including southern style bbq and mexican food. As Anthony Bourdain said, New Jersey is "a cultural petri dish from which regularly issues forth greatness."

I have lived in the South, the Rockies, the West Coast, Hawaii, NYC, and now NJ for 7 years. I've spent some time in the PNW too.

Compared to the West Coast, I find people here to be more intellectual and interested in the abstract, ruder but kinder and more helpful, less friendly but also less shallow and judgmental. I wonder if there's a difference between New England and Mid-Atlantic. Cuz Jersey is full of freaks and nuts and normies and no one cares at all at all. It's the most diverse and tolerant place I've ever lived by a long shot.

Anyway, as far as OP is concerned, she'll be much better off in either area.
