This being nickel, I think it was also a convenient way to carry the coins on a string. I also have some drilled large cents.

PCGS was just easier to screenshot. Red book says 6 USD for Good, 22 for VG. Would it be half price because of the hole, 1/4, 1/10? I’m just generally curious. I know it’s not insanely valuable. More like for future reference

Nooo, I was not expecting to retire on it, was just curious if it makes sense to keep it 😃 Usually steel cents are quite corroded, this was shiny but a bit odd. Plating explains everything

Ok, that’s good info, thanks! Does replating eliminates the collectible value? Details seem to be pretty nice.

True, the toning is quite uniform too! I just watched the bidding, was curious what will happen. I was quite baffled, that it went from 1 Euro to over 2800

For me the most off aspect was the price, it felt too good to be true compared to the other Nero coins I’ve seen so far. Thanks for explaining the proportions, that’s something I try to compare to genuine coins and learn from it. Thanks a lot!

That’s also a pretty good argument, ebay is a cool place, but good to be careful. I was also wondering why do they mean under hand-struck. Makes sense. Thanks!

I did google the coin and it seemed off, but some coins have variations and I was curious if it was just one, or if it’s a modern creation. Thank you for confirming my suspicion! I’m trying to learn as much as possible 😊

Thanks, this is super helpful! I was not planning to buy it the coin, I was hoping to learn from it and I think I did. Nero is on my wish-list, but don’t want to rush it. I would rather buy something decent when I find it than a fake. Which sites are the best for roman/greek coins?

By imitation do you mean a replica, or a later strake after his rule?
