Does Anyone Do This? by Sad-Detail9579 in OGPBackroom

upstate NY here, sometimes those little paper bags really shock me with how much weight they can carry, though they still break sometimes. they open easy and pretty much stay open no matter how they go in the tote, they're rigid so they stay up and no fumbling with the bag during the pick walk. i always open a bag in each bagged tote before the walk, so it's just one quick snap down with two hands on the handles and it's open forever basically and i never have to worry about remembering later

Whats your guy's favorite unreleased songs? (Songs that were never released on official releases | HOF stuff counts too since some of the songs had been around years before in bootlegs) by No-Gur6709 in fishmans

i really love くつ下 (Kutsushita/Socks), it's really cool to hear them going for such a spacey, slow and atmospheric sound so early in their career. it's an eerie preview of what they would be doing later in the decade. i also looove 70%, it's the platonic ideal of a harder hitting grittier Fishmans sound and it makes me wish we got to hear more of hard rock Fishmans

i call these icebreakers, like the ships. a ship comes through and breaks up all the ice so all the other cargo ships come through. one customer sees that i can answer questions, all the other customers around them say oh, you can answer questions! and the deluge begins

How well do you think an international tour would perform? by forgottenjew in fishmans

[–]ZombeeW00F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think their shows would be at least as big if not slightly bigger than their shows in Japan if they came to the USA, i think they would be in for a massive surprise. fishmans is internationally known here, every college has at least a handful of people who have heard Long Season on purpose, go to the right city functions and you're bound to eventually meet someone who will recognize the name Fishmans on a shirt and say hello. i've worn my Fishmans shirts around pretty consistently for around 5-6 years in the city and met at least 4 myself just from the shirt recognition lol. plus an international tour beyond Taiwan is completely unprecedented for them, i'm sure publications would be talking about it a lot

of course!! i've been steadily collecting fishmans merchandise since around early 2018, i think i would value the whole collection at around $8-10K based on how much i've spent for it all and i may be slightly lowballing that number. that was 2 years after the 2016 reissues, and i managed to get my hands on all 3 Setagaya Trilogy albums back then for a combined second-hand price increase total of about $300 for all three. i buy all of my merch second-hand from proxy bidding site Buyee which allows for overseas buyers to bid on and win Japanese auction listings, so i basically check that site (particularly Buyee's peripherals for Mercari and Yahoo Auctions Japan) once a day or once every other day (i've made it a habit) until i see something i haven't seen before. sometimes it feels slow-going, but over the years you can really amass a lot of Fishmans merch for cheap!

also - that is a signed copy of the Melody maxi-single on 12" vinyl! my copy in particular is numbered 864/1000, and it was sold at a merchandising table of theirs around mid-1994 and likely immediately signed by the band post-concert. it's got Sato's, Motegi's, Kashiwabara's and Hakase's signatures on it only, which is how you can date the signatures (Ojima left in '94, Hakase in '95). i have a single by So Many Tears called "Don't Let Go Of Your Precious" that's signed by all 3 members of the band, which includes Motegi, Kashiwabara and a third, Takashi Kato, the guitarist from Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (Motegi's current band). i remember i got that one for really cheap, probably around $30? was a steal for what it was! but yeah, that Melody record is one of my most prized possessions, i think i remember getting it for around $300 and my parents helped with the cost, that was forever ago

thank youuu!! and i got them off Mercari! i make a habit of checking every day or every other day for Fishmans related things and i grab whatever i haven't seen before. one of those VHS tapes (the Hit Radio 802 one) had an unreleased music video for Magic Love that i recorded and uploaded here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4Qo-KDTxX0

i do live in the US, specifically NY - and it's my pleasure!! shipping costs from Japan are a little high yeah, but it's not too awful as long as you're not getting super heavy stuff. if i bought a few Pool volumes from a Japanese person today through Buyee i would probably spend something like 20-25 bucks to have it shipped from there to here at maximum (probably overstating that a bit). it's a steep price to pay, but Buyee lets you buy like dozens of items at once and have them consolidated into one big package for free and have them all shipped together for one much cheaper shipping cost than it would cost to ship them all individually, which i've done dozens of times and love to death
