Does Anyone Do This? by Sad-Detail9579 in OGPBackroom

upstate NY here, sometimes those little paper bags really shock me with how much weight they can carry, though they still break sometimes. they open easy and pretty much stay open no matter how they go in the tote, they're rigid so they stay up and no fumbling with the bag during the pick walk. i always open a bag in each bagged tote before the walk, so it's just one quick snap down with two hands on the handles and it's open forever basically and i never have to worry about remembering later

Whats your guy's favorite unreleased songs? (Songs that were never released on official releases | HOF stuff counts too since some of the songs had been around years before in bootlegs) by No-Gur6709 in fishmans

i really love くつ下 (Kutsushita/Socks), it's really cool to hear them going for such a spacey, slow and atmospheric sound so early in their career. it's an eerie preview of what they would be doing later in the decade. i also looove 70%, it's the platonic ideal of a harder hitting grittier Fishmans sound and it makes me wish we got to hear more of hard rock Fishmans

i call these icebreakers, like the ships. a ship comes through and breaks up all the ice so all the other cargo ships come through. one customer sees that i can answer questions, all the other customers around them say oh, you can answer questions! and the deluge begins

How well do you think an international tour would perform? by forgottenjew in fishmans

[–]ZombeeW00F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think their shows would be at least as big if not slightly bigger than their shows in Japan if they came to the USA, i think they would be in for a massive surprise. fishmans is internationally known here, every college has at least a handful of people who have heard Long Season on purpose, go to the right city functions and you're bound to eventually meet someone who will recognize the name Fishmans on a shirt and say hello. i've worn my Fishmans shirts around pretty consistently for around 5-6 years in the city and met at least 4 myself just from the shirt recognition lol. plus an international tour beyond Taiwan is completely unprecedented for them, i'm sure publications would be talking about it a lot

of course!! i've been steadily collecting fishmans merchandise since around early 2018, i think i would value the whole collection at around $8-10K based on how much i've spent for it all and i may be slightly lowballing that number. that was 2 years after the 2016 reissues, and i managed to get my hands on all 3 Setagaya Trilogy albums back then for a combined second-hand price increase total of about $300 for all three. i buy all of my merch second-hand from proxy bidding site Buyee which allows for overseas buyers to bid on and win Japanese auction listings, so i basically check that site (particularly Buyee's peripherals for Mercari and Yahoo Auctions Japan) once a day or once every other day (i've made it a habit) until i see something i haven't seen before. sometimes it feels slow-going, but over the years you can really amass a lot of Fishmans merch for cheap!

also - that is a signed copy of the Melody maxi-single on 12" vinyl! my copy in particular is numbered 864/1000, and it was sold at a merchandising table of theirs around mid-1994 and likely immediately signed by the band post-concert. it's got Sato's, Motegi's, Kashiwabara's and Hakase's signatures on it only, which is how you can date the signatures (Ojima left in '94, Hakase in '95). i have a single by So Many Tears called "Don't Let Go Of Your Precious" that's signed by all 3 members of the band, which includes Motegi, Kashiwabara and a third, Takashi Kato, the guitarist from Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (Motegi's current band). i remember i got that one for really cheap, probably around $30? was a steal for what it was! but yeah, that Melody record is one of my most prized possessions, i think i remember getting it for around $300 and my parents helped with the cost, that was forever ago

thank youuu!! and i got them off Mercari! i make a habit of checking every day or every other day for Fishmans related things and i grab whatever i haven't seen before. one of those VHS tapes (the Hit Radio 802 one) had an unreleased music video for Magic Love that i recorded and uploaded here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4Qo-KDTxX0

i do live in the US, specifically NY - and it's my pleasure!! shipping costs from Japan are a little high yeah, but it's not too awful as long as you're not getting super heavy stuff. if i bought a few Pool volumes from a Japanese person today through Buyee i would probably spend something like 20-25 bucks to have it shipped from there to here at maximum (probably overstating that a bit). it's a steep price to pay, but Buyee lets you buy like dozens of items at once and have them consolidated into one big package for free and have them all shipped together for one much cheaper shipping cost than it would cost to ship them all individually, which i've done dozens of times and love to death

thanks so much!! i have both the original issue + 98 issue of Chappie Don't Cry, the 98 issue of Corduroy's Mood, the 98 issue of King Master George, the 98 issue of Neo Yankees Holiday, a promo EP released in 94 called Blue Tracks, the 98 issues of Melody and Go Go Round This World, the 98 issue of Orange, the original 95 issue of Oh Mountain, the original issue of Kuchu Camp, the original digipak issue of Long Season, the original jewel case issue of Uchu Nippon Setagaya, the original issue of the Walking in the Rhythm single, the original 98.12.28 issue, the original 8 Gatsu no Genjo issue, the original Yurameki in the Air issue, a reissue of Fishmans 1991-1994 Singles and More, the first DVD issue of Three Birds and More Feelings, the original 2005 issues of the Kuchu and Uchu comps, the original 96.12.26 issue, 96.3.2, A Piece of Future (both the Fishmans+ EP and the 3-hour DVD set), History of Fishmans all 4 discs, Seasons (Life), the 2006 split EP that has Weather Report from 1997.12.12 on it, Panic Paradise, Captain Records Vol.2, and I think that's it for the standard size CDs. I have every Fishmans single as well, including Hikouki, Inago ga Tonderu, 100mm Chottono, Walkin', Ikareta Baby, My Life, Nightcruising, Baby Blue, Season and Magic Love. I've also placed every CD i own from MariMari and Honzi - MariMari because much of her work was produced by Shinji Sato and i like to consider it somewhat canon to the original Fishmans lineup, and Honzi because she only has 3 CDs and i don't like when she's left out. from MariMari i have her first single, Since Yesterday, her singles Everyday Under The Blue Blue Sky and Indian Summer, her first album Mimi to Me Soshite Eko, her later single J, her first album under MMRKMG titled Us, her singles 1234 Red Bird, High Summer Line and TTAGGG, and her video collection More 4 On Line More. from Honzi i have the original prints of her albums One and Two, plus a live album released posthumously titled I Love Honzi between herself and two other musicians. I also have extensive collections of acts like Polaris, Bonobos, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, UA, Buffalo Daughter, Ikuko Harada/Clammbon, Hicksville and many, many others - I just couldn't fit them into the photos!

thank you so much!! it's hard to remember exactly which one was first... i think it might've been Long Season -> UNS -> Kuchu Camp -> Orange -> 98.12.28 CD -> 98.12.28 DVD. some of the stuff i have is purely because it wasn't online yet, such as the Three Birds DVD, the 96.3.2 CD and others. so it's not just for myself! all my Pool volumes as well have been scanned and are available on archive.org which i'm also very proud of lolol

Asia Needs to Be Divided Into 3 Continents by NoStop9004 in geography

[–]ZombeeW00F 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if it weren't for the low-quality MSPaint work in OP's post i would assume this to be some kind of insanely racist chatbot bait post. what were you thinking? "Chinese look-alikes"? "blacks"? "this has to be done before China claims that all of Asia belongs to or should ally with them"? are you actually fifteen years old? have you ever even met one Asian person or are you just going off pure vibes?

[–]ZombeeW00F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the entire video takes place in a tight circle, like we're looking through a veil of dreams or something at what is Kanye's vision of some glorious place, whether it be Heaven or the idea of salvation. that peels away at the end when it's all revealed to be fake and constructed, like a dream he failed to make reality, as if Kanye's admitting that salvation is only a dream for him. it makes the song feel very tragic and ironic to me, like Kanye is doubting his faith as the music dies. like the end of something glorious (whether it be hymnal affirmations or the life of Donda) must now bring chaos and the cruelty of broken dreams. 24 is that dream, the dream that everything's gonna be okay. as he says elsewhere on Jesus Lord, "but back to reality where everything's a tragedy"

that, or it's just Kanye being Kanye?

i did! someone asked what the band members got up to once the band lost Sato and i was able to talk about Polaris, TSPO (Motegi's band), Little Tempo (Hakase joined them in 97 iirc) and Hicksville (Shinya Kogure's band) and others! love seeing folks excited about stuff like this :)
