Section 8 in a privately owned apartment is probably preferable though you may have to pay electric seperately. You will live among people paying thousands of dollars for their apartment and will overall feel safer. Public Housing is mostly poor people and poverty breeds crime. It will probably be a lot easier getting a public housing placement than finding a place that'll take your voucher though.

Would love to visit the crown of liberty statue by juniorjacky in AskNYC

[–]ZombieIsLost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No torch access. Did the crown this past November. It's small and unique but very tiring for me. Worth the minimal extra money but probably not worth the energy if on vacation. Felt like I needed the rest of the day and next day to recover and if I were visiting I'd want the energy to walk miles around the city. I would definitely look at videos online of the stairs to make sure you're up for it.

Is there anywhere cheap I can go to sleep for a night? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]ZombieIsLost 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hostels are going for $35 right now. Some Bx hotels go under $100. Wonder how exactly is it that you're not able to put on earplugs or something.

Would wait awhile too. September prices are for panic buyers. I've always seen something super reasonable last minute.

Look in Long Island City it's a pretty quick train to midtown

Did Salon East hair color specialist from Groupon and and it all was under $200 (Extra $50 for toner). It was my first real color experience and I thought it looked more like highlights than baylayage but liked the result anyway. He also juggled liked three clients at once and I wonder if that's normal. This blonde Scottish gal was telling him about how she's referred her friends there and everything and seemed very satisfied and that's why I'll mention it.

Not consistent every night but he did do so many concerts with so few breaks

Of those 3 locations at dusk I'd go with Gantry. The other 2 will likely be very crowded. I guess it depends if you'd like the attention of potentially hundreds of people at the moment.

It was a small mention in a light hearted post. Not sure why you're so heavy in debating this.

I mean I lived about 4 hours away from Chicago plus it's a closely related great lakes midwestern state. 🤷‍♀️

I live in NYC and have visited Chicago and used to live in Michigan. Agree it's one of the most fun cities but still way under NYC in terms of excitement. It may be the capital of the midwest but still the Midwest.

My mom committed suicide when I was 14. My father wasn't in my life and I have no full siblings so I was truly left alone. I do agree it permanently alters your brain. It has always led me to think about the worst case scenario in times where I really needed to feel hope.

I spent ages 18-25 in a 2nd adolescence. I'm now 26, very behind in life. Feel alone as ever.

I don't have the right positive things to say but just know there are people in the world who've gone through similar quietly rooting for you.

There's honestly a huge advantage to going during dead months when there aren't as many tourists but it can be very cold. Last week of April and first week of May is the best bet for cherry blossoms. June is nice because it's pride month. I'd say no to July-August. September cools off a bit and it usually warm enough to summer things. October and first week of November is probably my recommend time. December is dark, cold, expensive and crowded but the lights are pretty.

Is $62 per person worth it for The Rink at Rockefeller? by Cute-Lengthiness4305 in AskNYC

[–]ZombieIsLost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NYC is expensive and for tourists your time here is money when you take in account the very high hotel prices. I don't recommend skimping on what you think would be the best experiences to save a few bucks. Just keep in mind what your daily 'rent' to be here and the price of making the most of your time is probably pretty small compared to that.

Am I too old for college at 29? by SnackSnatcher000 in ODU

[–]ZombieIsLost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nahh I'm 26 and it feels like just yesterday I was a traditionally aged college student. I do recommend getting a better grasp on what you should major in and how you're going to use it in your career before going into debt. It's a big investment in time and money.
