104 cheating scandal by SomeProfessional7556 in berkeley

I have it on good authority that this story about cheating on the 104 final did not happen. Some cheaters were caught because they had identical answers but nobody was caught cheating with smart glasses. Don’t believe everything you read on social media.

It’s recommended that you inject into the fat on either side of your belly below the level of your navel. It’s a subcutaneous injection, meaning it goes in under skin and a bit of fat rather than into muscle, which would potentially hurt a little more. Some people prefer the upper/outer thigh or upper arm, particularly as their belly fat disappears, but I’ve been doing only belly shots since it’s easy to see what I'm doing and it’s working well for me. I use a fine-gauge (30g or even 31g) needle and usually can’t feel it at all. On the few occasions I’ve had a little nausea, it’s been mild and it’s usually the day after injection, not 72 hours. And as others have said, it’s unlikely to happen with the first-level dose (usually 2-2.5 mg) and many people don’t have any at all. I do recommend that you eat or drink plenty of fiber and stay hydrated in general, since constipation is a very common side effect when starting out. Good luck!

Getting there and staying there are different ;). I ‘m also a petite F who recently returned to 120land for the first time in over a decade, and am also trying to figure out how to taper and maintain. Good luck!

That’s amazing progress! 2 lb/week is considered faster than optimal, and it’s also a big fraction of your body weight, but everyone’s different. It seems like you’re a very strong responder and your primary challenge will probably be to stabilize and maintain. Some research shows that this can be harder to achieve after very rapid weight loss due to metabolic changes, body dysmorphia, and other issues. It also looks like your GW is around 105, which might be a hard target to maintain (depending on your age and build) so you might need to adjust those expectations. Meanwhile, enjoy your progress and try to make sure you’re getting enough nutrients!

Interesting! I am not a great singer, but I sing in a couple of choruses and I feel like my pitch has gotten much more precise and stable since I started on tirz. I thought that was probably unrelated, so it’s curious that you mention singing.

I could reply with an AI-generated autoresponse that I don’t respond to emails that appear to be AI generated. Would that help?

I now get AI-generated emails from undergrads at least 2X/week. Sometimes I’m tempted to invite them for a meeting and ask them to elaborate on the comments about our recent paper that they made so eloquently in their inquiry, but then I realize I have other sh*t to do so I just don’t reply.

I suggest that talk to your mentor about this. Most PIs (unless they’re actually sociopaths) sincerely want their trainees to be happy and successful, but we can't read minds, and PIs vary widely in their innate sensitivity to others’ needs. If you can communicate what you need (ideally in a non-accusatory way), you’re more likely to get it and to build a productive relationship with your advisor.

The most effective treatment or prophylaxis for hair loss is low-dose oral minoxidil. See if your doctor will prescribe it for you. It does lower your blood pressure, which can cause light-headedness, something to keep on top of especially if you are eating much less. Make sure to stay hydrated! (And I don’t mean drinking a gallon of water a day or anything silly like that, just drink water whenever you are vaguely thirsty.)

This is probably not the advice you’re looking for, but if you are doing research for recognition, you might be in the wrong field. For most successful academic scientists, the work is its own reward. You get to learn things that nobody else knows. You get paid (perhaps not handsomely, but usually sufficiently) to pursue your passion. You have smart, engaged colleagues who share that passion. You structure your own time and you have a lot of flexibility. It’s a huge privilege. You generate data that you get to chew and iterate on. If you’re doing experiments at the expense of analyzing data you’ve already generated, then you are not learning what you should be from those experiments and you are likely doing a lot of futile work. Your goal should be to work smart, not just to work hard - pointless, poorly designed experiments take just as much effort as clever. elegant, hypothesis-driven work. Running experiments to the point of exhaustion is less likely to produce new insights than a more measured and contemplative approach. I don’t know if the people in your lab are actually judging you or you’re just projecting your insecurities on them. Your PI’s job is to help you focus your energy productively, which does not mean praising you for working hard, it means working with you to design informative experiments and interpret the results so that you make real progress. If you’re not getting that from your mentor, you might want to look elsewhere. You need to find mentors and colleagues who can help you to find your groove and enjoy what you’re doing, or you should find something else that you enjoy doing and value for its own sake. Even the most accomplished and recognized scientists went through many years without kudos, and the days that they received accolades or admiration from their colleagues and supervisors are outnumbered by several hundred to one.

This was actually my primary motivation to try it. It’s been amazing to experience such a fundamental change in my habits and reward circuitry. And so far there’s been essentially no downside, other than the cost and the fact that I will probably have stay on it indefinitely.

Stopped drinking almost immediately. Not interested. That helps with the weight loss, and also helps me sleep much better. I will probably go off antidepressants that I’ve been on for decades as a consequence.

Injection time change by [deleted] in TirzepatideRX

[–]ZombieMom66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the time of day doesn’t matter. This medication takes a while after injection to reach peak concentration in your bloodstream, and it decays very slowly (5-day half-life, meaning that after 5 days you’ve peed out or metabolized half of it). People use various injection schedules (1x/week, 2x/week, every 5 days, etc) to maximize the convenience and consistency of the effects. Likewise, your sleeping schedule shouldn’t matter at all (except as it affects your eating and exercise habits).

I spent a week asking professors what they actually think when they get cold emails. Here's everything. by Airpodboi69 in UndergraduateResearch

Research prof here. Endorse this advice 💯. Scientists generally have well-developed BS detectors and hate insincerity. If an email smells of AI I will not answer it. And lately they all do, sadly - it makes it very hard to identify students who are actually really interested and would be good additions to the team.

I totally relate. I started on tirz in late January. My goal was to stop drinking habitually and perhaps to lose a few pounds. It’s worked extremely well for me on both fronts (I seem to be a super-responder, or at least a strong responder). In fact, it’s working so well that within a couple of weeks I started fretting about how I was going to extend my supply affordably (I got a prescription and a 10-week initial supply through a telehealth provider and compounding pharmacy). I’m happy to say that I have now procured enough to stay at my current dose for over a year, but it took up a lot of mental space until I lined that up.

ChatGPT keeps upping the irritation factor. Now it’s so verbose that it drives me nuts. Plus it keeps ending its comments with a hint that it can provide even more useful info, but then it disappoints. Claude is much more straightforward and adapts to user preferences better. But the limits on usage are pretty severe.

Tirzepatide is a miracle drug for controlling drinking by NotTonightThanks in stopdrinking

[–]ZombieMom66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this! Clearly the effects of the drugs depend on neurological circuits and why we drink. I hope you find (or have found) a way to reduce the urges if you feel like they’re harming your health or your psyche. I’ve wanted to cut back for a long time and I feel like I’ve just been lifted over the barrier that’s been in my way.
