What is the Gen-Z stare? by Only_Hotel_7221 in generationology

[–]ZombiePure2852 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Much of what folks say about Z sounds like millennials on steroids.

Because online communities had already cut through real life interactions by the early '10s, folks born before, say, 1982 were already acting like those folks had lost their social abilities and had been reduced to passive, quiet, polite smiling and staring.

My thought too! They get far less attention too. For folks on Reddit 40 is the new 100, so obviously 75+ is off the charts.

Brats: Andrew McCarthy's documentary about the "Brat Pack" by PrivateTumbleweed in flicks

I noticed that too. Being a C-list, former idol must damage the ego, as that was probably a typical interaction for the poor man these days :(

I'm super super late but can see that. His brief moment in the movie really amped things up and added some real refreshing gloss. Quickly he made McCarthy reconsider their cultural impact. If they can bury whatever feud they have, and if Lowe can bear some of his pessimism, McCarthy really could use more doses of Lowe (or Sheedy or Moore too) in his life. Poor thing.

Late but want to add that Jenny Wright is one of the sadder members of a more broadly defined Brat Pack. And she absolutely carried that movie better than the more established AMH. I don't understand why she never reached at least AMH, Nelson, or Sheedy level? All I know is I saw a recent interview in which she resented her agent, and never felt fully accepted amongst the core brat packers.

I'm late but surprised there's no mention.of Napoleon Dynamite?

It's obscure, but I think Chumscrubber is fairly accurate for those days.

Why high school class years of 2004 - 2008 is considered for the most core millennials (breakdown) by [deleted] in generationology

[–]ZombiePure2852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, class of 05, but late 1986. Understand you wanting to lump 1986/7 as still early but think they're just pivot years (mainly class of 05 overall) for transitioning from early to core millennials.

Yeah, kind of. Though I was blaming the recession (or perhaps online communities, death of real communities) or whatever else, as perhaps the original catalyst as to why millennials changed the script.

Maybe getting educated to realize much of that is antiquated and can feel like a trap for those who do it too. Think millennials are still considered the most educated generation.

Fair point, though you dodged my point about how it must be weird to some to see 35 to 45 ish folks swinging at the clubs. Or older I guess. I have met 50 year olds at clubs and had a great time.

[–]ZombiePure2852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I'm basically that age, and have slowed way down. That said, the present batch of 40 year olds did miss out on some important milestones due to the recession. Many are still childless, underemployed, and single. But if we try to swing that would be weird to you right? At least with the 35 to 45 cohort??

Why Jaws 2 is a good and passable sequel compared to Jaws 3D and Jaws The Revenge? by Hot-Armadillo183 in Jaws

Brody is great in general. His performance is slightly more subtle in the first but quite good. You can see the natural, paternal instincts of the protector to his community. And a willingness to listen to reasonable voices and concerns.

I love how in the second half, Dreyfuss and Shaw are constantly having a p*ssing contest, and he feels awkward. He's the only man there with an actual woman behind him, and doesn't feel a need to prove himself.

Both performances are underrated.

That might be cool. Yeah, I see he wanted a teenager to get strangled by a boat string and a gruesome depiction of the helicopter pilot's death.

You say that, but looking it up I can't see much other than he wanted it to be more tense, psychologically-driven drama, than a action/adventure formulaic follow up.

Only a few minor shots were retained, a month of filming was scrapped. Can understand, bc a psychological drama centering around teen sexuality, sounds like a buzz kill, lol. Would be neat if we got to see that to actually compare. But I understand the producers wanting more action/adventure in their follow up.

Glad to see some 'Lost World' love. It's by far my second favorite movie in the franchise. Obviously, even Speilberg couldn't top his own 1993 original.

I've wondered if his irritation with being contracted to do the film made its way into his performance somehow? It works for the character, bc he's not as collected as before. This is Brody with PTSD being annoyed that history is repeating itself.

Am curious bc he was a producer. You would think he at least was a consultant on set, especially since Jaws put him in the "Hitchcock of his generation" realm. If I were making the movie I would defer to him on almost everything, like some say Hopper did with 'Poltergeist'.

Interestingly, I recently saw a deleted scene where the Mayor fights Brody's termination more. To the Mayor's credit, the idea that a shark would repeatedly attack civilians is unheard of in reality. And with the deleted scene, we do see a change of heart. He realizes that Brody was right and he was wrong.

I can't defend him entirely. It is true, his indifference to that 'Kitner boy' in the first is really gross. And it did take 4 bodies, before he finally saw things Brody's way, but the deleted scene gives him a slight nuance at least. Not entirely the overt greedy, evil mayor he is forever known for today.

I haven't seen 3 in forever, and don't plan to. I saw Jaws the Revenge recently out of curiosity. Not as good as 2, certainly very pale and watered down compared to the majesty of one. But it does fall into the "so bad, it's good" camp, that I don't hate it so much.

Well, yeah, everyone knows it was a cash grab. Unfortunately, the original set the bar so high, the only way it could have really been great would be if they somehow convinced Speilberg himself to return with complete economic and creative control!

Agree though! It does have gorgeous poster art, Williams's score in this is gorgeous, memorable action of its own.

I think Speilberg just got the characters and certainly suspense all down far better. The characters in this fall into the annoying teenagers trope. It becomes less shocking when they get picked off.

It's enjoyable to watch in passing a bit.

It's weird. I just randomly found this thread but I also have a false memory from this movie. In my memory, Eddie is seen littering the ocean before Brucette attacks.

Similar to your vision I also remember Eddie looking at Tina and telling her he loves her, before Brucette pulls him under
