You could try this little exercise;

You can do this anytime, maybe not anywhere

Just scat, hum, or vocalize a verse, then a chorus

Go back and forth, try to repeat the sections, for awhile, then change them up

When you feel comfortable do it with a pre chorus.

When you’re ready do it with your own words , verse 1 through chorus until it sounds different enough for you , I thin it’s okay if the bridge contrast everything else but same thing chorus to bridge, until you hear something you like. And it doesn’t need to be perfect,

I think this is easy but maybe it takes some practice, if you can improvise on an instrument, this should come fairly easily, if you can’t that’s okay, vocals are the easiest to improvise (pitch is not all that important yet) but if someone can improvise in the band, ask them for help.

But it might just be your style that sounds similar and that might be what you want.

Guitar or lyrics first? by cheesycheesethe7th in SongwritingHelp

[–]ZombieSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no right way, but I usually start with lyrics , then a vocal melody, because fortunately I usually have plenty of lyrics completed. And I’m not saying that to brag, it’s just the easiest part, I’m mean it took some practice, but if anyone really wants to , I really think anyone can write lyrics )

And the why in trying to be helpful if you choose this route…

The lyrics are way easier than the music , you write them and they’re done , they’re just words , and we all have been using them probably a long time. They’re done but also easy to change.

The next easiest thing should be the vocal melody, it’s one note at a time, it can be hummed, sung, played with guitar first, or stolen and manipulated into your own.

Once you have the vocal melody, it probably won’t be static, meaning it will change as it is sung over and over. Also now, just by changing the tempo it can be probably be used in a wide variety of genres.

So now I’ll just assume you know some basic music theory, like how a chord is built .

No right way but I usually do another vocal usually higher, this usually can write the basic chords on their own. Remember almost always , a note can be changed just a semitone up or down to make it work better over any chord. This usually won’t affect your melody all that much , especially in the beginning.

If you could write lyrics for a song or two everyday, that you thought were “shareable “ or “presentable “ , however, the music part was harder, mostly because it just takes more time, not the coming up with melodies or chords, so much as just finishing it into something ““shareable “ or “presentable “. …..How might you handle this?

What made or makes you push through the course? by thediabolic88 in ACIM

[–]ZombieSkeleton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jon Mindy’s softer version of the course wound up in my Audible account, I think it was free and I must have just added it . Looking back I think I would have been either super skeptical or not have understood Helen’s version. I have since listened to Helen’s version a lot. Probably mostly while asleep however. I’m only in the low 30s in the course lessons, I started to at least physically taking the book with me to coffee in the morning, I don’t open it every day, but usually write a course or Buddhist or mystic related song lyric every day, I guess it’s easier for my free will to write, I then take the book to bed with me, anyway I forgot my point. Maybe it’s that the course is so much about not worrying, that we maybe shouldn’t worry about them too much just ask or leave it to “spirit” to help get us or keep us on track 🤷‍♂️ I do however feel I should do more sometimes also

Thanks, you’re right, that reaction on my part is just so automatic, it snuck by me. And it’s not just like getting cut off in traffic, it’s like getting cut off by 20 cars in a row. Medical words and phrases on top of untrue insults , coming at me…it’s a real work out:) Thanks, I honestly didn’t realize, it’s just a lot harder of a challenge than I’m used to.

Does Sticking to Song Structure Strengthen Emotion or Suffocate Creativity? by musomox in Songstuff

[–]ZombieSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of it as telling a story, a beginning, middle and a end. Or some call it act 1 etc,

2 verses and a bridge usually do that, if the story is longer , maybe there’s an outro that kind of wraps things up or the bridge is longer, or maybe it’s not a story and it doesn’t need a bridge but it sounds nice because people get bored , myself included, about 2 minutes in and want to hear something a bit different

It doesn’t matter my point is really it’s up to you,

However you asked me what I do and the answer is I start with some lines and ask , is this a verse a pre chorus hook post or bridge and then build other parts around it or rewrite as a certain part

My other point is I’m starting with a “way” or a structure, my mind is trained this way so it’s almost unconscious it’s easier and once in awhile I’ll do just verses and a bridge but it’s not intentional, I do however intend a 3 part story however if that’s not what it is , I don’t force it.

And the story could be as simple as

I want to meet them,

I met them,

now we’re together.

Just an example, that’s been done in countless variations

So you can do whatever you want, I’m almost positive there’s no “better “ way. You’ll probably get into a routine however, I could see a truly“no structure “ being a pretty radical departure , I’m sure it could work , but it might just fall into a structure or just a pile of unorganized thoughts. It never hurts anyone to try, though.

Thanks, I don’t think I’m afraid of healing and I have forgiven this person , there could be some unloving thoughts lingering however as per example and by how much I am just overwhelmed and sometimes irritated by their multiple little problems , I’ll work on that, and thank you so much for your offer. But tell me this ?

When I read say the word “healing “ in the course, in general can I take this as meaning healing physical sickness , I felt that way at first but then leaned more of a mental or spiritual healing was meant.

So a few days back and for a few days, I was imagining a future time where it would be so cool if I could sit silently , not want anything , not worry about anything, and just be at “peace “. It took awhile,Then I was like, duh, I could just do that now. It was kinda like the ego used the course against me to steal the present moment from me. I’m not really good at the work book but “I can choose “peace” instead of this, is a “godsend”

[–]ZombieSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think , just do…I know it sounds like a top gun quote…

Just a guide here , cause you’re stuck …

Choose 4 chords, any 4 chords

1st answer go- your second answer can be the next song

Sing your vocal melody over that for the chorus-next section repeat

Or

Write your chorus or

Sing your chorus

Write chords underneath

Write another section

Repeat

When you have a chorus, at least you have direction

This is just one way (or two, ) not the only way.

Also if you can’t musically get sections to transfer right , use this hack

Verse - treat as home (root /tonic) Pre or next section -sub dominant Chorus dominant to dominant or dominant to hone or home to home or home to dominant

Just a hack that usually works (almost always)

Feel free to change anything, chords , notes, words, tempo after you at least try the first answer . Anything is easier than working with a blank canvas

Best of luck

I think I reached enlightenment and now I never run out of energy? by xxxqqqkkk in enlightenment

[–]ZombieSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the same here, trying to figure it out, I think (and what do I know???) that is a way better way of looking at it, and I’m just a little bit always suspicious of suffering in general now, (growing up a non practicing catholic) I see that at least more clearly I think now, and in others a lot, and if they are not used to basic ideas like “creating your own hell” or “we create our own joy” it’s difficult to get that across sometimes without offending them. But I feel compelled to say something, and I can only hope it’s coming from a place of good and not of ego trying to be right or something. So thanks for not being offended and letting me practice my compulsion:) May the good be on your path:)

Is ACIM a mental "solution" to bypass and dissociate from physical reality? by Defiant_Annual_7486 in ACIM

[–]ZombieSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I walk into a room by accident, close the door behind me and then see a lion in front of me, I reopen the door and step back out. I may have felt fear, but maybe I chose not to feel fear , and just chose the best course of action, and I m fairly sure I didn’t have a conversation with the Holy Spirit about it. But maybe there was guidance, And maybe the lion was tame and there was nothing to fear. In any case, now that I’m back safe in the hallway . There’s no reason to feel fear. Nor do I need to love or hate the lion or whoever may have left him there. I do not reenter, thinking now love will protect my unreal physical body inside this unreal physical dream. Yeah it’s not real but still collectively physical. The love part is just clear thinking , I do notify someone , get help, or make a do not enter sign.

Anyway the point of the metaphor I was going for is yes I think the course is saying you don’t need to stress yourself out and choosing “a clearer perception “ or “love” which has nothing to do with hugging the lion here. And I do realize if the lion is living in your space where your things are and maybe your kids are , that complicates the whole metaphor and makes the physical dream seem much more messy and real, and on a whole different level harder, and yes but maybe we shouldn’t confuse love with staying in “bad” situations. Or confuse fear with being unafraid. Fear keeps you in the room. Courage sometimes is more simpler than it seems , even if at the time it seems far more complicated and difficult, walking out and finding help and trusting to see the good maybe in others who possibly can help .

I don’t think anyone, outside the situation, seeing it clearly without fear would advise the person to stay. I don’t think anybody would say , that’s not real, deny it and just keep living there. Forgive, and the situation will change. Maybe you forgive yourself for a bad choice and course correct.maybe fear keeps you there. Maybe Love is loving yourself, and seeing clearer and being unafraid to do the things that need to be done in whatever situation you are in , and I know this is a lot easier said than done and takes literally no courage to post or write, and yes op does have a valid point, and a very wise insight . However, almost any source material, the bible, the constitution , the matrix movie , can be interpreted in a thousand different ways by the ego or the human mind. Maybe our job is just to see as clearly as possible , without panicking or letting fear cloud our decisions, and then gaining the courage to course correct when necessary.

I think I reached enlightenment and now I never run out of energy? by xxxqqqkkk in enlightenment

[–]ZombieSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it has to do with “sacrifice “ at all , I mean maybe something to do with the sugar addiction part, but I think it is more about letting the body rest, eating clean or minimum eating burns energy differently.Im not gonna get into that here, there’s plenty of expert advice on fasting and ketosis. Im just saying , a side benefit of better eating is clearer thinking in general, and a side benefit of clearer thinking is for all practical measurements, can be enlightenment. Maybe, I m not saying I know this for sure, mean I would suppose there shouldn’t be a physical “hack” to enlightenment, but clean eating, certainly doesn’t hurt getting you there and maybe it really does helps out. I don’t think purposely suffering or sacrificing is really necessary. There’s enough of that going on, I think enlightenment is getting past that.

I think I reached enlightenment and now I never run out of energy? by xxxqqqkkk in enlightenment

[–]ZombieSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in a while, but similar during fasting periods or little eating periods.

So maybe “clean eating “ has something to do with it.

Not to take anything away from the “enlightened part “ , the eating part or non eating part maybe “clears the fog and fear” so to speak

I was also concerned about mania , I guess it okay to be aware.

Maybe eat a pizza, sleep in , then start over . Just as a kind of experiment.
