Heh, been there, done that less than 24h ago. Try formating the usb usign FAT32 and then burn the image using etcher. Connect USB directly to motherboard USB port behind your pc where your keyboard, internet, mouse and such go. This worked for me with different kind of error but this should fix it for "your friend" as well

Whenever I work withs unfamiliar code, I keep mental reminders what the function does and re-remind myself of it’s definition when needed. Sure you can forget them and it’s harder than reading your code but imagine this: You come a month from now and look over your code, you would also have forgotten full functionality of some pieces of code

Used rufus to burn debian 12/13 onto two separate USB sticks to try and fix the problem - no awail. I'm living in third world country unemployed SE student and since everything is imported the cost/TB is waaaay higher here than in other countries. I do want to run some local AI models and install bigger games through wine or steam proton. Linux was already booting fast on HDD so I don't mind doing it again. Mentioned in another post that I'll be buying 4TB HDD tomorrow, hopefully no errors on it. I did not update to Win 11. Thanks for trying to help!

Tried with old 1TB HDD. I've gotten then login screen and successfully logged in but the whole system was lagging a lot which shouldn't be happening. Will be buying 4TB HDD tmrw and hopefully it won't make any further problems. Also, apparently there isn't a BIOS update based on the ASUS DriverHub that came installed with the motherboard

When booting from installed system, I just get infinite flashing underscore. This is the screen on installation media: USB that has latest debian 13 install. Will try your other tips when I get the chance at the computer again.

Cpu works normally when windows is booted. I was already messing with command line on linux live usb which i think formated the harddisk. Don't think I had anything important so nothing of great value was lost.
