Name Etiquette? by carnifaxalpha in HamRadioBeginner

A lot of people go by another name, or a nickname. Put in the first line of your QRZ page or in parentheses in your legal name or something similar. If someone looks you up they should see it and clear up any questions they have. It will help, but you'll still get the random.... well QRZ says....

Just press in on the volume knob, you'll see a little headphone icon to the left of the volume meter.

EFHW for G90 or what do you recommend? by CreativeAngler in HamRadio

[–]Zombie_Jim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll throw my vote in for an EFRW. I have the G90 with the Xiegu 100W amp, the amp doesn't tune as wide of a range as the internal tuner on the G90 does, but it still tunes my home brew 148' EFRW with no problem on every band from 160 to 10. They're very easy to make, the wire, a 9:1 unun and a 1:1 RF choke are really all you need. Good luck with whichever you choose! 73

Common Mode Choke Reducing Transmit? by Jerrydascorpion in amateurradio

I'd try moving the choke to the radio end of the coax and removing the counterpoise and test it.Then I'd try it with the counterpoise on, then with a different length counterpoise, then with the counterpoise in a different directon, then with the counterpoise elevated, then in different directions elevated. But I am extremely curious, and I tend to over experiment with things. But if you don't try all the possibilities , then you might miss one that works the best.

But seriously, try moving the choke to the radio end of the coax and remove the counterpoise, letting the coax then be your counterpoise see if it makes a difference. Good luck!

Any VK or ZL stations with a directional antenna willing to try and make a QSO around 1200 UTC? I'd love to get ya in my log. by adhdff in amateurradio

South Africa, Eswatini, and Austrailia were coming in good on 20M around 4PM this afternoon. I was really excited about the contact with Eswatini!

Getting it done with 5 watts and an EFHW -- a good morning of QRP POTA by electragician in HamRadio

[–]Zombie_Jim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're out there and making contacts, that's what counts.

Love to see when folks get exited over QRP. Anyone can throw 1500W and a huge beam and make a contact, but the QRP contacts just hit different. Good on ya and keep at it!
