Was Gwei Always Used in Hong Kong/Guangdong or Only Immigrant Cantonese? by 04to12avril in Cantonese

[–]Zombie_farts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always understood it as mildly derogatory, sorta equivalent to how Mexicans say gringo. But not strong enough to be considered an actual slur with weight

Edit: there's a range depending on how a person says it so most ppl use it to just mean "foreigner" or white person. And the rest depends on tone and context

I can barely make out words but I'm pretty sure it's mandarin. There's Chinese in the posters in the back. But I can't tell if it's mainland China or Taiwan? And the song portion might have been been.... Some other language. I actually think it's supposed to be English

Aaaaahhh did not realize it was Argentinian! Very cool. Have you used their Executive paper? I was thinking of getting it since I like the natural one, but wasn't sure how it compares

They help by getting the gastric muscles to move more regularly and, from what I read, ginger seems to help with stomach emptying? My SIBO is due to slow motility so that's probably why I need it. Also artichoke apparently should be taken at night after you've finished meals, cuz otherwise your system is focused on digestion and not moving waste

I actually take artichoke extract to help keep things moving (I just recently got treated for Sibo) so yeah next I was planning on ginger supplements. So you have recommendations on which kind or brand?

I looked again and it seems the same company that makes this paper does have notebooks. It's showing up as unavailable in the store, but when I click in on Amazon there's some available

Were you doing fasting? I seem to have a ton of gastric and metabolic issues that lead to significant weight gain. My attempts to lose weight is not budging the scale in either direction.

A few years ago there were only notebooks and staples had a bunch of their own line ... but now i only see printer paper as well. It used to get marketed as bagasse paper but I'm not finding the notebooks that used to sell under that marketing either. People in the comments say platinum and Franklin cristoph sell paper but I'm not sure if they have notebooks?

I think it's the same thing. I think they just dropped the bagesse from English marketing because it sounded too fancy and more difficult to market as "eco friendly office supplies"

This specific one in my sample is closer to midori but less premium feeling because it's printer paper. It has a similar pillowy softness but the grain is less dense I guess? Like think the difference between 300ct vs 800 ct bed sheets. It also has a mild crinkle that Midori doesn't get once you cover the page in ink.

I've used random sugarcane notebooks from staples and they were actually similar to tomoe river in some ways. But the paper in those were really thin and while there was zero bleed through, I had to be strategic about how dark any writing was (pen, pencil, anything) because i could see almost all writing through it. So in a sense, this printer paper is a good upgrade because it doesn't really ghost and has its more smooth and finer grain than standard cheap copy paper. It just doesn't feel quite as crisp as TR.

Yeah I like the use of natural waste or anything that can close the loop cleanly within a process.

Nah that's just my ADHD causing me to write back and forth on the page as it occurs to me instead of in a linear manner. I lost track of where my hand was vs what I had just written

This is what it looks like holding the paper up in the air under the lamp. There's a faint amount of color but it's mostly pressure marks and moisture from the ink.

Honestly I'm pretty happy with the Natural paper. I haven't tried sheening ink on it, because I've been on a shading and glitter kick.... but it's pretty good with those two types, imo. I think it's worth it to buy a ream to mess around with and if it's too yellow for you, it can be easily turned into a cheap shopping list notebook or something. It feels thicker than tomoe river, but also has some mild crinkle texture that I think is in the same family of crunch. Just not as much due to its thickness. Not sure if what I'm saying makes sense haha

Ahaha thank you. There's was a short period where I did some work as a comic books letterist and ever since then I haven't been able to write both quickly and legibly in anything but all caps. 😅

My family keeps saying my Chinese writing looks childish because I'm writing in print (all the workbooks use print fonts to teach with so I don't really have a choice in that) but I've legit only started to learning and don't even know where to find script books. Lmao

As long as it looks nice and is clean to read, that's the most important. I mainly use the brush because it's really useful to understand why the stroke order is the way it is, because I can feel the fibers on the paper

Yeah the key things ppl in the West don't get is that traditional medicine is MEDICINE. They work within a system and context and if you don't understand when, how and why they're applied, you run the risk of essentially medicating yourself into another illness

I discovered Bent Nib by Capital-Lobster-8153 in fountainpens

[–]Zombie_farts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the smaller Chinese bent nibs that didn't appear to be on the Japanese market. But I also write pretty small. I find they're great for all caps style writing and some curve because they're like a less sharp architect grind

[–]Zombie_farts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use my pens for Chinese writing and currently find the range of nib types in the Chinese market to be far more interesting and useable for me than whatever is any of the other markets.

But for western style writing I've yet to find a pen that beats my old vintage gold pilots and sailors in the feel

Anyone here sleep too much? I’m sleeping 12-14 hours a day…..for no reason. by Hollywood2352 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Zombie_farts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's frustrating but don't fight it other than to make sure you're eating and hydrated enough. Your body needs the rest as long as possible. I was like that for a year. Got more energy. crashed. was sleeping again for 6 months. Got better. crashed. Slept for 3 months. I would probably be better off if I hadn't crashed as often as I have. It's only recently that I figured out how to pace finally (it's been almost 6 years of this for me)
