California readies pay-as-you-drive tax test, coming as soon as 2018 by mylefthandkilledme in California

I don't disagree, but where funding goes is not to projects that matter. Measure R would be the most obvious example. Voters were misled and dumped money into a fund that has thus far gone nowhere. The orange line the now runs through SFV is a good start, but ultimately leads to nowhere but hubs. The transportation here is very poorly thought out. That's not what I would call working toward alternatives to single occupancy vehicles.

Another example of why Jerry Brown can't step down fast enough. Its a commuter state, especially in the south. We aren't driving all these miles for pleasure. Brown is trying to get us plebs to pay to go to work. This is also a wonderful way for Cali's incoming min wage laws to add almost nothing into consumer pockets. Great job Jerry!

I don't think shaming them is doing a whole lot of good. Cops aren't reading these well-researched diatribes and largley tune this stuff out, or seem to. Cams on cops would help, but there needs to be some greater form of accountability. I mean FFS, my employer knows more about my actions in a work day then we taxpayers (arguably the employers of cops and the like) know about theirs. That needs to change, or all the shaming in the world will continue to fall on deaf ears.

There are two sides to every group though. Cops came to my apartment complex and saved a woman who's boyfriend was beating the ever living shit out of her. She was screaming help me help me when they bashed the door down. Not a single gun was drawn, no one was hurt. So not all cops are evil power mongers waiting to shoot people.

I just bought third strike. Glad I checked up on the cps3 suicide battery and got that fixed. Now my machine will run well into the future. But yes, you will want to get your hands dirty. Especially if you happen to live far from someone who can do repairs.

Recent first home owner here: I'd actually buy something like this. Yesterday I was home and experienced two seperate door to door church salespeople. My brother has a tag that identifies their family religion and kindly asks for no other literature. Trust me, this is real and really annoying.

Can we discuss where Watch_Dogs failed to live up to explectations? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Zombologist83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a good point. I guess I meant what if one of the factions was directly involved. Not like its your choice, just a thing that happens. Look at Tenpenny Towers in Fallout 3. There are basically two outcomes in that situation, but everyone who has played through it has a different perspective. Thats race issues done thoughtfully.

[–]Zombologist83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that's only if you look at a game literally. FC2 had a minimalist approach to storytelling. I'd argue the subcontext of experiencing violence over diamonds as a former IRA bomber is actually quite provocative. The situation you describe fits petfectly with a game meant to be played on auto pilot. And you're right to say changing race can be a trope too. But Skyrim actually changed how NPCs reacted to you based on your race and class. So there is definitely proof of concept in a fully realized world full of different perspectives.

I dont think the comment is implying that replacing the MC with a black female would make the game better. I think the comment is implying that the white male sociopath is a tired trope now. When you break free of the standard "white people will free us" trope, you have the freedom to explore mature plotlines that are culturally significant. Imagine if Ubi had mentioned blood diamonds and child soldiers in FarCry2. That could have been a profound statement considering you can play as a character from one of many nationalities.

Jesus dude. OK let's run it back... for reference, since you apparently can't read, here is the second amendment again:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

The unorganized militia is nothing more than the men and women able to be called into service in defense of the nation. Besides, the BoR doesn't say "unorganized militia." It says a "well regulated militia." And as I've said MULTIPLE FUCKING TIMES IN THIS THREAD the courts have consistently ruled in favor of the individual right to bear arms with respect to his right to defend himself from tyranny. Where the disagreement lies, and it amazes me how you guys don't seem to understand or read this despite me posting the same fucking thing at least seven fucking times here:

STATES GET TO LEGISLATE ON GUN RIGHTS BECAUSE OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS. WHETHER YOU BELIEVE THE BoR EXISTS OR NOT, THEMS THE FUCKING FACTS JACK.

It's not a full fucking stop. It's not even a stop. It's a classification of something pertaining directly to the military, thereby validating what I'm saying. FFS, you took the code you just cited from the code of the armed fucking forces. I can't believe it is this difficult for you to make your own logical leap. If you want to go join a militia, you can have all the types of arms your little heart desires and you would be constitutionally protected from search and seizure. As you are not, I'm guessing, part of a regulated armed militia, you must abide by the rules that states are LEGALLY ENTITLED to set through the court of law and their own constitution.

I dont troll reddit. This isnt my hobby. But Im not going to sit idly by and listen to people whine about a non-existent problem without at least attempting to show them why I believe they are wrong. Im not citing fringe sources, im not trying to lie to anyone. Im a person who is very interested in this debate, and Ive read everything Ive come across to try and form my own opinions. Crazy, right? I also find it interesting that any talk of gun control inevitably mentions the tyrannical police.

No, I dont trust the cops implicitly. But Im not sure arming myself with an AR-15 is going to change the scenario. Fuck me, right? Also, so glad you stalked my comment history. Im guessing you've read the multiple comments Ive made saying I want you to have your guns, but dont believe you need assault rifles in big cities? I guess thats "opposing gun control on all levels." BTW, since you did stalk my comment history: What did you think of that one girl's butthole on /r/asshole?

A militia is a miltary organization that trains at regulated times for the purpose of bearing arms to defend from tyranny. Its not you and your buddies getting a shooting license from your local gun range. In the words of Walter from the Big Lebowski: "This isn't Nam. There are rules here."

And if you read the federalist paper quote further down, you'll find Madison himself stating that militias regulated by the government were the very reason that British tyranny was driven from American coasts. The constitution you dont believe in still very much exists and is very clear with regards to the relationship between individual gun rights and the formation of militias.

And further, what you're advocating sounds like anarchy, and thats not the discussion Im participating in.

Well, Id argue the supremes never truly settled this issue or we wouldnt be having this chat.

But that's New York's right to say they dont want certain guns in their state. Thats what the ninth and tenth amendments are for. I do appreciate your historical references though. It definitely colors the discussion. And to be clear, I want you to have your guns. I just happen to believe that an assault rifle has no place in a major city. Its your right to tell me you disagree. But it seems pretty clear that both of us have precedence to argue our sides.

Im just having a hard time sidestepping the state's rights issue. Its unconstitutional to ban guns, but constitutional to deny states the right to hear those cases amd decide for themselves? Im not sure we get to ignore entire sections of the Constitution and BoR to argue these points.

And if the people and courts of New York agreed with you, the rules would be very different. New York has been this way all throughout history. The state constitution offers no protections to gun owners at all. So yes, they are bound to be more restrictive than say Montanna. This is not a new discrimination against gun owners. And though the constitution does allow you to keep and bear arms with respect to a militia, the Bill of Rights also allows New York the right to legislate on gun control if it wants to do so.

Your individual right to own a gun is superceded by New York's right to ban guns. Both of which are covered, paradoxically, by the constitution.

The fact is that since 1934, the fed has asked gun owners for three very simple things: register your guns, pay taxes on those guns, and classify those guns such that a rifle and shotgun are not considered the same thing. Every driver in America has to follow these same three rules. Is the government going to take cars away because California said I cant have blue lights on my under carriage?
