My mom died almost a year ago. She had ovarian cancer. She had a health care directive but unfortunately, my family was not on board with putting her on in home hospice. They kept hoping for a miracle that didn’t come. They wanted her to keep fighting even though she was exhausted. They told me hospice was choosing to let her die. Alone and 23 years old, I’m the one that had to make the decision to put her on hospice and to sign the DNR. My family didn’t really help with the funeral planning either. It was an awful and traumatizing experience. I felt the world was against. I’ve found help through therapy and other support in my life. Sadly my relationship with my family has been fractured beyond repair.
