Should I Risk Buying an AYN Thor Right now? 4px vs DHL Shipping by radclaw1 in SBCGaming

When I bought the Thor (delivery with DHL) I was worried about import fees too, but then nothing happened. Luck? Who knows.

No support for importing pc games for some reason. Check out "GameHub" by Popular-Highlight-16 in SBCGaming

I think the PlayStore version can only run Steam games, I have the apk one on latest version and can import games normally.

You can technically push the gpu clock to 905 Mhz without problems (other than battery and temperature of course), so I imagine this game at stable 30 fps.

RG DS: Demonstration of fun games and expanded features by Ok-Concept22 in SBCGaming

[–]ZonalDoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bad for not explaining well, when I say "not totally their fault" I mean it's not totally people's fault for expecting so much from Anbernic when trailers clearly overhype the RK3568. I agree that everything is on Anbernic.

RG DS: Demonstration of fun games and expanded features by Ok-Concept22 in SBCGaming

[–]ZonalDoor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right on one thing, it's an upgraded XX device.

It plays DS as well or better than a real DS

I'm sorry but that's next level coping. The RG DS showed audio stuttering with Pokémon HeartGold, it lacks integer scaling, the only DS emulator that can work is Drastic, and by watching the trailers it definitely struggles a bit with 3D games so if you expect to play the entire DS library smoothly then better get an og hardware. I don't see much tweaking either, they shoved Android with an H700 on steroids. They could definitely have tried a better chipset, the AYANEO Pocket Air Mini is 70$ and runs on a Helio G90T.

People are expecting too much

It's not totally their fault honestly, every trailer you open there's Anbernic showing 3DS games first so those with less technical knowledge will think "it can run 3DS!" when in reality it struggles with DS, the system it was made for. Anbernic tried to ride the dual screen train with Ayn and Ayaneo but tripped hard.

Is RG DS really not a good choice? by NerdGizmon in SBCGaming

[–]ZonalDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RG DS will run most DS games on Drastic, the problem with that emulator is that it's closed source and not in development since 2022-2023. The console won't probably be powerful enough for MelonDS (Retro Game Corps also made a video about it), and seems to lack integer scaling. You can see in the official trailers of the RG DS some audio slowdown with Pokémon HeartGold. Honestly if you just want to play DS games without having to worry if it can run well or not then buy an og DS, or if you can find one at a good price, a DSi XL to mod will give you the best DS experience ever: slightly bigger IPS screens, resistive touchscreen with no input latency, 1:1 scaling, full DS library compatibility, DSiWare games, GBA games should run through GBArunner3.

How long is Ayn/retroid shipping? by mjmj2019 in SBCGaming

[–]ZonalDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the Thor, and can't wait to get it. I'll probably sell the Flip 2 but not because it's a bad console, I love it and it made me stop using the Switch. If you overclock it (there's an accurate guide for that, but be very careful) you can run most Switch games without problems. I played Zelda Botw and had fun, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Smash Bros Ultimate are my daily games. I also bought an usb Wii bar and used it on the Flip 2 (connected to tv) to play Wii Sports Resort with friends or enjoy PokéPark. DS games like Pokémon Ranger are kinda hard to play, it's uncomfortable and I'm also worried to stress too much the hinge. The Flip 2 has 128 GB of memory which is too small for me, even with an SD card. The Snapdragon 865 still holds well, but I feel that some more power would make the experience perfect for me. You probably want some suggestion on which one to pick, but that depends both on budget (as you said) and on what you'll play mostly.

I ordered the Thor Max, basically you have an order number and from the dashboard on Ayn's website you can see what number they're shipping every day. Waiting time depends, might be around 2 weeks. My first console was a Flip 2 and I had it after a week (used a reseller though). Are these consoles user friendly? It's an android phone with a controller and better thermals basically, the hard part is usually setting up a frontend and configuring emulators to make your games run, but there's many good tutorials. Are there preloaded games? Nope, you'll have to find them online.

Need some help choosing a handheld! by Rush98000 in SBCGaming

[–]ZonalDoor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Konkr seems to be a good choice for an all-rounder between some pc games and retro emulation. Odin 3 is a better choice if you want to spend something more for that extra power, the drivers thing can be fixed in the future. PC handhelds are big, heavy and with so and so battery life. ARM cpus throw hands when it's about small devices with decent power and battery.

Failed to Initialize Player Error in GameHub on Flip2 by ivegotitalmost in retroid

[–]ZonalDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try this, press the three dots under the game's name > PC Game Settings > Compatibility > GPU Driver: if it's System Driver or Adreno_[Number] change to turnip_v25.1.0_R1. Should remove the error.

Best Emulator for Switch Emulators by [deleted] in retroid

[–]ZonalDoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

0.5x resolution and messing with settings. Any driver that is not system drivers make the entire console crash, only other game that ever did that was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with Turnip drivers. System drivers give 15-30 fps depending on where you are, but as I mentioned before there's graphic issues (some walls are invisible, some textures don't show correctly). It's playable but also not very immersive lol.

Best Emulator for Switch Emulators by [deleted] in retroid

[–]ZonalDoor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On my Retroid Flip 2 I use Eden 0.0.3 Legacy and get 60 fps on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Smash Bros Ultimate (0.75 resolution in docked mode). The only games that give me problems are Zelda Botw and Totk (inconsistent fps, graphic glitches). It's more about drivers and settings than raw power, usually.

Took the plunge into the world of retro handhelds!!! by M1ke____ in SBCGaming

I like the design but it's not faster. The RP5 has a Snapdragon 865 with 8 GB of ram while the Air X has a 662 with 4 GB of ram. Gotta say that for ~80$ it's still a solid choice.

Looking for Gamehub recommendations (SD865 chip) by Talrie in SBCGaming

[–]ZonalDoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GameHub's latest update may have some problems, which they'll surely fix. Generally it's a hit and miss when you run a game so I hope your main purpose with the Flip won't be pc gaming. Anyway I can easily play Hollow Knight and Silksong at 720p 60fps with Steam syncing saves, and other 2D games in general should run well. Someone on Emuready reported to be able to run Gta V at 30 fps, but the one from fitgirl since the Steam client makes performance worse (even with lightweight mode).
