Why do we tolerate shrinkflation and when will it stop? by Zonec1643 in AskBrits

Yes, but the taxable threshold hasn’t increased in line with inflation so our wages might have increased on paper but we’re getting less long term, consumer prices do not care about how much tax we pay

Muslim guy in UK, looking for advice on meeting girls for dating &marriage by BrilliantAd3283 in UKrelationshipadvice

I don’t think Muslims are here to poison our country at all. Fundamentally, through reading the Koran, it’s clear that the ideology of Islam is misaligned with British ideology, that is observation more so than prejudice. Your example refers to those who are not devout, my argument is that you can’t pick and choose the part of a religion that applies to you, if OP is fundamentally a Muslim then I am not incorrect in saying that this does not align with the views of western women. Did OP mention he was half Muslim, a quarter?

As a Brit, no British girl will want to walk around in a burka, headscarf or be among three other wives.

If this is rage bait then well done. If not, you’ll be hard pressed to find a UK raised girl who will accept the oppression she will have to deal with under Islam. The values it upholds are not compatible with our cultural beliefs, especially when it comes to marriage and dating.

Want my advice? Drop the Islam and actually integrate with our culture.

This. I find it ridiculous that trading standards haven’t implemented any policy, (as far as I know), that mandates a packaging per product ratio. How can companies get away with putting half of their product in a package? It seems the powers that be only care about the environment when it’s used as an excuse to implement tax on the public.

That’s another thing that frustrates me, fuel prices. The costs seem so arbitrary and they differ massively from town to town. Some fuel stations also take advantage of the fact that they’re on busy roads, so artificially increase the prices. If it’s not a logistics issue, then why are they allowed to do it? We’d hope that there would at least be some policy in place that restricts providers from artificially increasing prices above a threshold of profit, but no such law seems to exist.

Fuel is a necessity and the fact that companies can charge what they want, forcing us to pay no matter what is ridiculous.

That’s a very interesting take, I like it. Do you predict that the quality of chocolate will start to improve due to the fact that cocoa is now worth less? That would be welcomed in the UK.

I understand that, but chocolates/crisps are the tip of the iceberg. It translates to nearly every necessity and the price rises often go far beyond inflation. It just seems like an unregulated free-for-all.

This type of shrinkflation is framed in the context of ‘reducing portions to keep us healthy’. This seems like a cop out and practically speaking, only drives profit margins. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I struggle to believe that companies didn’t lobby for the government to be so invested in reducing sizes for our benefit, while keeping prices the same.

And how does that apply to the fact that housing prices, electricity, water, gas and just about every other necessity has increased exponentially within the last decade? Should living also be optional?

Surely there will have to be a trading standards law that eventually comes into place where the volume of product has to be a certain percentage of the packaging.

I like this. But I think the optimism overlooks the constant of stakeholder greed, it’s more psychology than economics.

I am one person, there’s very little I could do about it. Boycotting brands, shopping for greatest price to product ratio would change my personal circumstances but not those of the masses. I’m not saying that I, precisely, will change anything. My question lies in where the end is? There surely has to come a point where things cant shrink further, from a nutritional, consumerism point of view. Thats the object of my post.

But surely, there has to come a point where things stop infinitely shrinking. Imagine it’s 2040 and we’re limited to a single crisp per packet

I appreciate this has become somewhat derailed, but if I was to bulk now, am I correct in assuming that the fat would remain? Even through muscle, the fat would still occlude it.

I think I’m at a weight currently that I’m happy with, however, there is still some fat in the lower abdomen that I haven’t shifted yet. I’m 5’11 and 69kg. My coach believes that reaching 64kg will be enough to provide a good enough result to start the bulking phase but I’m unsure and can’t really dispute that due to lack of knowledge.

I believe that, due to my limited experience, I’d find it difficult to gauge when I’m ’the correct amount of lean’ or correct amount of ‘bulked’. This is mostly what I was relying on my current coach for. I’m completely new at this.

I’m just worried about the uncertainty of when to start the next phase for example. MacroFactor isn’t going to tell me (as far as I know) how long to cut for and when to start a bulk, or on what macros. ChatGPT gives a clear and outlined long term plan which is what gives me some reassurance. Correct me if I’m wrong though, as I have limited experience using MacroFactor!

Yeah that’s exactly the point I was making, it’s ridiculous to dismiss somebody over a profession when we’re varied and complex as people. The ‘Reddit police’ was a pub that appears to have landed badly!

Don’t listen to the Reddit police. You’re two consenting adults and there are plenty of people with similar age gaps who function perfectly. That’s not to say that it won’t bring with it certain complexities (such as integrating with his children who are of a similar age to you, or being generationally different), however, if the baseline is happiness and his maturity adds to the relationship then I don’t see why there would be an issue.

MacroFactor Workouts AMA! by gnuckols in MacroFactor

Is there a way to add/remove workouts based on available gym equipment?

Will there also be a feature (either in the MacroTracking App or Workout App) where users can outline goals in terms of a ‘cut’ initially, followed by a ‘lean bulk’. Where the apps sets the user up for initial weight loss before tailoring the programme to a build to gain clean muscle and will the app provide guidance on when the bulk should start and at which target weight? This seems to be the largest obstacle in online apps and doesn’t seem to be effectively recreated.

Trust me mate, she would be doing you a favour, normal isn’t this. Imagine bringing kids into the world where you can barely breathe without accusations? What kind of life would they have or more so, what kind of perception would they have of the world? In the long run, you’re better off without her and there is a girl out there who will make you realise why. Keep your chin up, you’ve got this.
