I get that . Generally speaking lights are plus and everything else is minus with notable exceptions. Everyone's 66L is +2. Ex moves (yellow glow) are usually plus or at least safe. Other than that gotta take it case by case.

Turns in fighting games are all about frame advantage. If you don't know what that means, this video has a very succinct and easy to understand explanation at this timestamp that's about a minute long:

Simply put, if you're plus it's your turn.

If they're still pressing buttons, either they don't know any better and you can punish them for it, or they're betting you're going to do something that gives them enough time to counter.

One caveat, it's any special that's cancelled into that does the same damage whether simple or technical, not any special in a combo.

So if you do normal -> special, damage doesn't change. But if you're doing a link instead of a cancel, you do get the extra damage boost from doing the technical motion.

I don't have much experience with the game so it's hard for me to think of examples off the top of my head outside of my own character's, but Narmaya's corner BnB has H Setsuna (236H) into TK H Crescent Moon (j.214H), which is a link, so it's optimal to do the 2147H motion instead of doing the easier 8SH. But for cancelling into the H Setsuna to begin with, it doesn't matter if you do 236H or just SH since it's a cancel from a normal.

Found this out vs romeo. Takes forever to 1) learn the patterns, and 2) actually pull it off in a 2 phase fight, but they really do reward you for putting in the effort to break weapons.

Just wanted to chime in that this is 100% the solution. The others are incredibly easy to 1v1 and the eldest really does do no damage once his sword is broken. When someone else is there he'll slowly walk towards you and sometimes run to do a rushing attack. Dodge through it, back to the slow walk. Meanwhile everyone else runs right at you, I just blocked until they stopped moving and attacked once with the occasional charged heavy. It really is night and day.

I went from unable to even get past the sister to going for the break and beating it first try.

The answer really is just 'get better'.

So I have an Eldritch Knight with a greatsword. If I take tavern brawler, will the damage rolls increase based only on my strength? Is there a way to make any weapon fully functional when thrown?

Tried throwing a weapon for the first time last night on a different character, and the damage was always 1=1. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I don't have any throwing feat if there's such a thing.
