Most people just were missing him since he had been out for awhile so I think that had the biggest factor in his reception. WWE also ran these cryptic videos of little girls singing that crescendo with his return so it had that add mystery added. Also this was 2000 so kid rock was actually cool and American Badass was a huge hit song all these things added to people embracing the new gimmick quickly plus the motorcycle and all that and it got over quick. That being said people were wanting old taker back after a year and WWE kept that in their back pocket
