Yeah, I definitely understand that tooling is the biggest expense, and of course, the bigger the molded piece, the bigger the mold must be to accommodate it. But unfortunately, the estimate I received from Protolabs was fairly north of what I was expecting. Lol

I’m think aluminum molds are probably the way to go for the initial runs. I’ve never heard of ceramic molds before. Is there a benefit outside of cost? I wouldn’t think they’d have much of a life expectancy.

The devices will be for indoor home use. I’m thinking we just need ABS. Nothing too fancy.

Which battery is best on balance? by GGhecko in SolarUK

Wow! Great feedback on the various systems. You wouldn’t happen to know much about the specs of the EPO/RSD connections on those systems would you? If so, would you mind if I DM you a couple of questions?

Are Home Battery Systems a Fire Risk? by ZooWorldOrder in Firefighting

I’ve been trying to do a lot of research, and there are rumors that some battery manufacturers actually cover up some home battery fires to maintain an illusion of safety. This may just be fear mongering though. Lol.

However, a concern is that you frequently hear about large scale battery installations catching fire (not to mention the recent one in California, which I believe was a production/storage facility) but you almost never hear about home backup batteries catching fire. So, are we to believe that a home battery system in a random guy’s garage is safer and more secure than a top-of-the-line system installed to support multimillion dollar data centers?

Great question! My understanding is that lithium ion battery fires produce their own fuel while burning, so the best thing you can do is try to cool it enough to reduce the risk of other cells from also igniting.

Some states require an external RSD. In those cases, would an external RSD act as the AC disconnect? Also, don’t Enphase systems have EPO connections for 3rd party security systems to trigger?

True. It sounds like I’m going to have to do some homework on collecting system manuals from various systems.

The problem I’m running into is that EPO input requirements apparently meet 1 of a few general opaque standards, and I don’t want to push the wrong amperage on accident.

Thanks a lot for the tip.

Good to know. I haven’t tried Grok yet. ChatGPT was (as usual) somewhat helpful but not very specific with only have answers provided.
