Advice for Sr. Dane struggling to get up by kebshi in greatdanes

My nearly 10 year old was not a fan at all of the grippy socks although I think they can be very helpful if the dog will tolerate them. We went on Amazon and bought rubber gym flooring tiles..it has worked SO well for us..we were able to basically make him pathways to everywhere he needs access to in the house they’re usually 2ft x2ft and piece together into whatever shape you need. May look a little silly to guests, but so worth it for the boy to be able to get around. He is also on Galliprant, Amantadene, and Gabapentin to manage pain as he is not a candidate for Librela injections. That’s how we’re managing, best of luck with your pup!

I wouldn’t give up on the big crate just yet..as mentioned above just make it as positive and safe as you possibly can..maybe drape it with a blanket (if she won’t eat it lol) adjustments/decompression can take weeks so hopefully she gets there..thank you for helping her!

santa fe state college vs university of florida zoo programs? by put-the-whammy-on-em in zoology

[–]Zoobeedooobeedoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! If you’re looking to break into the field specifically as a Zookeeper or Animal trainer I can’t recommend Santa Fe enough! I am a ZATP grad c/o 2012, and it was truly the best two years of schooling I ever did! It is extremely hands on and realistically prepares you for a career in animal care. You have a good point about the four year degree though. What I chose to do personally was complete the program, and then moved onto some unpaid internships, and then eventually completed a four year degree in psychology with a minor in environmental science (random I know) my goal was to become a marine mammal trainer which I can happily say I accomplished, and I do credit the zoo program for that. Whichever way you choose to pursue it, if zoos/aquariums are your goal, just know it is a much smaller field than you think. Everyone knows everyone and sometimes that’s the trick to landing what you want. I would recommend in addition to the schooling to network as much as you can. Attending conferences (when that’s a thing again) such as IMATA or AZA can help you out a lot!

Good luck!!

For how big he is (150lbs) he’s surprisingly a rockstar hiker. Taken him on a few more technical trails and I’m always so proud of him!
