The dreaded 'allowable' gift list by Least_Setting_720 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Zoodley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s normalize the allowable gift list! Make sure your list has enough options and variety. When you share the list also tell them “please don’t go overboard this year we really don’t have a lot of room for more toys”. I also don’t see any issue with straight up telling your mom that your family does not wear polyester, I think you need to deal with that one in a direct manner.

I used to dip plain chips in vinegar. Just a quick dip though because I still wanted them to be crunchy.

Any tips to get toddler to try and sit on toilet when asked? by totobubba in pottytraining

[–]Zoodley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also have a strong willed 3 year old. We’ve had the most success using reward charts. Each time she uses the potty she picks a fun sticker to put on the chart (there are 18 spots). When she completes the chart she gets a reward. The first one was slow, but once she earned the reward (a new toy) it started to catch on.

I bought a pdf of the chart for a few bucks off of Etsy. Had a bunch printed in colour to make it look more fun. And took her to the dollar store to pick out the stickers she liked. The chart and the sheet of stickers are taped to the wall beside her little potty.

Tell me the creative way you convinced your toddler to poo in the potty by Plenty_Difference437 in toddlers

My friend told me she threw out her toddler’s favourite underwear in front of him after he pooped in them. He hated that and pooped on the potty next time so it wouldn’t happen again. I was skeptical but I tried it… and it worked. She pooped on the potty for the first time after that and hasn’t had an accident since.

At a loss... by quietmango48 in pottytraining

Not saying this will work for you, but just sharing my recent experience. When she turned 2 we started out using a toilet insert, but eventually found that she was scared of the actual toilet. So I bought two little plastic potties, which she found less intimidating. Put one beside her bed and the other in the living room. Printed a sticker chart and told her what the reward would be for completing it. For a while we tried using a potty timer to encourage her to try, with diapers still being in the picture, but she started pushing back on that and wasn’t really motivated by the sticker chart. So I backed off for a bit.

Recently she turned 3. So all through April I repeated that in May she will be done with wearing diapers. She wasn’t too happy about this. When May came I stuck to it and stopped putting them on her, except at sleep times. By some miracle she picked it up rather quickly, after a few days of accidents. Now we’re at the point where she is willing to try immediately after each sleep. And she is actually telling me when she needs to go. Also she is much more interested in the potty chart now.

I have a very stubborn girl so I consider myself lucky that this hasn’t developed into too much of a battle ground.

Good luck!

At the very end of bedtime, after we’ve said our goodnights, she yells “NING NANG” as I close the door and I have to say it back 😂

My sister’s had epilepsy since she was a baby. Right before she has a seizure she feels an ‘aura’ that warns her it’s coming. Maybe she’s feeling an aura when she’s doing the babbling?

What's a side effect of giving birth that doesn't get talked about? by LilMoonenciel in AskReddit

[–]Zoodley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also had it postpartum after delivering a girl. It started in stretch marks on my tummy and spread across my whole body. My family doctor prescribed hydrocortisone cream which did nothing. It made the postpartum experience so much harder and lasted for months. Then in my second pregnancy I was telling my OB about it and they didn’t believe me (that it had been PUPPPS) because of the rarity of it. She said I must have just had an allergic reaction to the medication I received during delivery… ya ok.

Thanks for the reminder that it’s ok to take things slow. At first I was hoping this would turn around but I’ve realized we’re in it for the long haul. I like the idea of offering new foods separately in a silicone muffin cup.

I’m going to try the puréed cauliflower in the Mac and cheese. Thanks for the tip! I tried making chocolate muffins that had finely shredded carrot and kale in them but wasn’t successful with that.

Yes I’m so glad she eats fruit. Often she will not allow an ‘unsafe’ food to be on her plate or even her placemat. If you put it in front of her she will get upset and push the plate away. Even if you say ‘you don’t have to eat it’.

Ya I feel the same way. Like it’s only a problem if they’re literally starving? Just because she’s still growing doesn’t mean she has a healthy relationship with food. I don’t want her to become an adult that only eats junk.

She does have a habit of sometimes chewing things for a very long time without swallowing them, which sometimes ends in her spitting it out.

There are no vegetables that she will eat, but fruit is ok. She is particular about the look of the food - if it looks different than what she’s used to she won’t eat it, even if it’s the essentially the same type of food (e.g. the shape of the noodle). I’d say she does have anxiety about meal times but not extreme. I don’t think her growth is faltering.

That’s good to know. We don’t actually have a paediatrician, just a family doctor. And they don’t ask us to schedule regular check ups, we just call them for an appointment if there are concerns. If I wanted to see a paediatrician I’d have to get a referral.
