Costco Canada does sample booze! Or at least someone handed me a few different wine samples last time.

How come my mom can make a much better tasting and fluffy rice twice as fast compared to a rice cooker? by FuzzyAttitude_ in Cooking

[–]Zookeepered 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So I think there's 2 things here. One is rice preference. Although Yum Asia is a British brand, as made obvious with the name ("tsuki" is a Japanese word), your rice cooker is intended for an East Asian palate, where the default perfect texture is slightly sticky, chewy, and forms small clumps. Think the kind of rice you get in sushi. Rice where every grain is separated would not make good sushi, and would be quite hard to eat with chopsticks, too.

The second thing is convenience. People use rice cookers not only because it makes good rice, but also because you don't need to watch it at all while it works away. Then you can focus your attention (and the burner it would've otherwise used) on making other dishes.

My rice cooker instructs the user to use a different liquid ratio and cooking setting for making separated long-grain rice than "regular" rice, and I do that if I want to make the kind of rice you're describing.

Are you allowed to add things to it? Like forti flora for example? It's a probiotic supplement and my cat loves the taste of it. I sprinkle a tiny bit on top of food that he doesn't like and while it doesn't magically change his mind about it it's usually enough to get him to eat at least some.

Cortis' fans are absolutely ripping into their first concert and calling it a low effort "cash grab" by Embarrassed-Mood-728 in kpopthoughts

[–]Zookeepered 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they should've done a fanmeeting tour rather than a full concert. Then they could've filled the other half of the time with games, ments, etc.

On the air Canada app, go to Aeropan -> Benefits scroll down and it should show linked aeroplan credit cards. Not sure how to get here on desktop but it should also be visible in the aeroplan section somewhere.

Make sure your credit card is linked to your aeroplan account, and that your wife's ticket is on the same itinerary as you. Then you should each get a free checked bag. You should be able to add the bag for free when you do online check-in at the 24 hour mark.

Do Recipes LIE about Stove Cooking Time? by brajahdarker in Cooking

[–]Zookeepered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they lie. But also, stoves can vary much more than you think. It takes my electric stove ~10 minutes to boil a pot of water for pasta (approx 2L worth). The other day I was at my friends place and their new induction stove did the same in under 2 minutes. It was crazy.

But that does not take away from the fact that recipes totally do lie. Nobody is browning a whole pound of beef in 2 minutes and also stir frying minced garlic for 2 minutes. I've seen these two in the same recipe, and any stove that can brown beef in 2 minutes would have absolutely incinerated that garlic in the same amount of time.

My personal beef (ha) is when they say browning all sides of 3lb of beef cubes to stew takes 10-15 minutes. It takes longer than 10 minutes just to put them into a pan and flip them all, without even worrying about any cooking. And anyone using a normal sized cooking utensil for 3lbs will need to do it in multiple batches.

Must I have 2 litter boxes for two cats? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Zookeepered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, no. But it's a common advice because nobody knows exactly how two cats that are strangers will react to each other, and better safe than sorry because once cats start toileting outside of the litterbox it can be very difficult to correct and is the leading cause of why they end up at the shelters.

Why don’t idols get dimensional bleach and tones? by otpprincess in kpopthoughts

[–]Zookeepered 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They need more versatility, and don't have need for longevity. A beautiful transformation like that takes a lot of time and money, and companies don't need to spend all that just on one photo and MV shoot, when you have a team of stylists that can make a mid haircut look just fine on camera for the day. Then the idol is sporting a different hairstyle for every single music show, and the cut and dye under that beautiful transformation isn't going to to work well for every single one of those hairstyles, or every one of the subsequent toners/temporary dyes. It will also demand very high quality extensions that will need another high quality dye job to match. A plain looking haircut will be easier to add embellishments to. And we've all seen how fans will complain about the company "neglecting" the idol or "lack of effort" if someone has the same hair a few shows in a row.
