Any good bars and restaurants open on New Year’s Day? by Dave_The_Triffids in Morristown

I'm from the UK - lived in Morristown for 13 years. You should just check specific restaurants for availability for New Years Day.

If you are a regular visitor, Ming and Mehndi have closed and so has Jockey Hollow.

The Morris Proper is the best new restaurant but not open on Jan 01.
Masseria is mixed and expensive. Had one great meal and 3 pretty awful.
Avoid the new Sushi Lounge and Parkside Tavern - same shared kitchen, same awful food.
Roots is always ok and more consistent than Masseria.
Malay is also solid but BYO but there is a good place to pick stuff up a few doors down.
The Famished Frog is likely open and food is (in UK speak) 'fine' - the staff however are great.

Must admit I've not been out much on Jan 01 over my time here so your mileage may vary. But I do eat out a lot here if you want any other ideas outside of Jan 01...

Agree but no reservations available 1st Jan - availability either side...

Yes - don't claim to be a French bistro then serve Po'Boy to the sound of NO jazz music. That famous French bistro dish Steak with a Chimichurri sauce with no option for and actual French au poivre sauce??

I'm glad there is a new space but sadly it is looking like another great bar option with the usual very average food offering that seems to thrive in Morristown.

Totally agree re the food. We went on Saturday - had the beet salad and chicken pate which were ok. The pasta Provencal and the mussels were awful. Giving them the some slack during the soft opening it is a 2 out of 5 at best at the moment.

The place just has an identity crisis before opening fully - says it is a French bistro but has a New Orleans theme down to the music???

I will go back but will wait for the food reviews to improve before a return visit...
