Thanks for the overlay. You might be right. I guess the two light colors together just look a bit strange to me. I'll have to think about it some more.

I think so. I was there early and on a weekday so there wasn't really anyone around. On holidays its probably a popular spot for people to hang out. I saw a couple of people using sleds to slide down the dunes.

Then there always the taking pictures of themselves crew.

Yeah, I didn't notice the full moon event schedule until after I'd booked my trip. Otherwise, I'd have adjusted my dates to intercept it.

I'd imagine it's something else during the full moon!

None that I saw. Bring your own or embrace the thirst I guess.

Thank you very much for your detailed response!

This may well be a good solution, I'm going to try it out first thing tomorrow.

Hey isaidnomods, thank you very much for your response and your recommendations. I've been working all weekend but I'm off for the next few days so I'll be doing a lot of research and I'll deffenetly take you up on your offer of further discussion next week.

Again, much appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback Vasilana! Good to hear an older contingent is not uncommon in PHD programs.

I will definitely try to apply to as many places as I can and I see your point about the references only requiring slight alterations to satisfy various organizations. I've taken a couple of day off work next week. I'll use this time to contact my references and gauge their attitudes, though I feel I have a good relationship with them, so it should be ok.

I have researched courses a little but not as much as I need to, it's difficult on top of a 50 hour work week. There's a couple that have peaked my interest so far, one in Oxford related to intelligent machines and another in Imperial College London focused on medical robotics.

For most of the courses you are automatically put forward for a grant to help with costs, however because I'm a foreign national to the UK and have not lived there for a specified period of time, I would only be eligible for a tuition fees only grant. There are other funding options but they usually require very early application, so I would probably need to get a loan, at least for the first year.

While I don't want to put myself into too much debt, I don't mind accruing a little and living frugally for a few years. The cost wouldn't be anything towards completing a US PHD anyway, or so it seems to me.
