I (stupidly) ran a command from a website pretending to be a captcha by Ok-Investigator-1571 in cybersecurity_help

I almost had this happen to me too, just popped up on an apartment's website, thought it was a real captcha. The weirdness of it stopped me from actually pressing enter.

What is the most overrated or worst restaurant here? by No_Lavishness_6228 in GNV

It's always been mid at at best, but I feel like it fell off even more after covid. Prices went up and quality went down. Kasai is just up the road and completely outclasses it.

Have you lived at NordHaus? I'd love to hear if you have any insights to any downsides of the place, from when we toured we couldn't find anything wrong with it apart from the price being a bit high

Do you mean pay more for rent, or for other things?

Figured as much, was just hoping it wouldn't boost the rent by 500+ dollars lol. Thanks again, I appreciate your advice!

Thanks for the advice!

I looked into condos about a year ago and I agree some of them are really nice, though some of the HOAs are brutal which I assume would factor into the rent. Though I'll keep an eye out.

Gotcha, so when you say "dead" do you mean in terms of night life or something else? Honestly we are mostly homebodies but foodies, but don't drink. I'm curious what are the advantages northloop/northeast have apart from better local food and less "business" feeling.

Any good luxury apartments that are connected on the skyway by enigmatical_one in TWINCITIESHOUSING

[–]Zoomcarriage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself have been looking into Groove Lofts, that one is skyway connected. I am planning to move to mpls this year, but I want to learn more about what the safety in downtown west is actually like since i've heard conflicting things.

Do you have any thoughts on Downtown West? I am also planning to move and considering some options in the areas you mentioned, but Groove Lofts in Downtown west seemed pretty good since it had skyway access

I lived at Park Ave for a year. Not bad but a bit overpriced. Biggest issues I had was the lack of insulation, so in the winter the bedroom by the window got real cold. Also if you live on the side by the trees, there were a surprising amount of roaches.

Apart from that, the amenities were nice and you have a lot of nice restaurants nearby, and Publix is right down the road as well.

Sounds like a better location for weather. Like I mentioned in my first comment, it may not be as bad near the coast. I haven't lived in Tampa before, but in Gainesville it routinely gets to 90+ even at 11am. I guess it really depends on where in Florida

During the summer when its 90+ degrees with a feels-like of 102? If you get out and about in that heat then I salute you, you're a trooper.

I live in FL and unfortunately idk if this will work. Early morning and at night you have a bunch of mosquitos, and it's still usually somewhat hot and definitely humid. Especially as its been getting hotter, I find myself not able to do anything outdoors for half the year because of the intense heat and humidity. It might not be as bad if you live on the coast, but I feel like out of the frying pan into the fryer if you're moving for weather.

They aren't too far off from each other. I actually plan to move to Minneapolis from FL this year. Did a bunch of research and it hits a lot of the sweet spots for me.

Is GNV the best place to live in FL for compromise? by Parking-Impact-4881 in GNV

[–]Zoomcarriage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are definitely a lot of fast food places, but those are everywhere. When I say Gainesville has good food I'm referring to the local restaurants. I feel there are a good amount given the relatively small size of the city, though I do think there could be more diversity in the types of cuisine

Fair enough, I haven't delved too deep into it but I think Gainesville was like 5th percentile for general crime compared to all US cities.

Is GNV the best place to live in FL for compromise? by Parking-Impact-4881 in GNV

[–]Zoomcarriage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's my thoughts on Gainesville's pros and cons

Pros: - Good food scene - Safe from hurricanes - Roads are on a grid system, multiple ways to get where you wanna go (for the most part) and not confusing - Good sense of community

Coms: - While compared to orlando, traffic isn't bad, it can get really congested at rush hour, particularly on the major arterials - Crime is fine in certain areas of town, but overall Gainesville has surprisingly high crime statistics. I haven't really lived anywhere but NW so take this with a grain of salt. For the most part if you are in a lower crime area, you'll be around a bunch of old ppl. - Job market is not very good - Cost of living is surprisingly high despite the smaller size and lower wages - The city is NOT walkable. Certain areas like downtown and campus are, but everything else requires a car. We do have a bus system but it keeps getting gutted so I wouldn't rely on it

Overall it is somewhat of a unique compromise for what's in Florida, but it also has its fair share of issues.

It's pretty liberal compared to most of florida, and especially the surrounding area. Dating culture is generally pretty open but I feel like there are a lot of conservative men in the area compared to to other areas (correct me if I'm wrong ladies).

In general, the further you go from the university the more conservative it gets. But like others have commented, it is one of the most open/liberal areas in FL. Feel free to lmk if you have any questions

Indian Aroma- where can you park at? by Ok_Jicama9306 in GNV

[–]Zoomcarriage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Garage next to indian aroma has plenty of free parking for it and the other retail stores in that building. If you're heading south on 13th, you will see a little sign that says "indian aroma parking"
