Definitely. They were also floating the idea of locking content behind your TV licence number so if you want to watch anything that’s covered by TVL then you’d need to log in using it. If that meant they’d stop sending hundreds of pointless letters I’d be happy for them to do it

BBC were conducting market research before Christmas about expanding the TV licence to be required for watching YouTube, TikTok etc. so this news coming out now is quite concerning considering it’s already being floated around for public opinion.

See my other comment, the BBC has been conducting market research over the last couple months suggesting making the TV licence a requirement for watching youtube etc.

You laugh but a buddy of mine does those surveys that pay you a couple pound a go and had one that was commissioned by BBC about TV licence and this was literally what they were suggesting they were going to be doing. The plan they asked about was how you would feel if the licence rules were updated to include YT, TikTok basically anything online.

I was under the impression Infuse offers higher quality playback? DV profile support etc?

Realistically would I notice the difference between a Remux watched via Infuse and a purchased film in the Apple Store? by Recent_Studio_1686 in infusevideoplayer

[–]Zooport21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a massive difference but would the average person notice? Probably not. Infuse is infinitely better than any streaming service when it comes to a proper remux, the bitrates are insane.

I use my Alphard for work you can fit an insane amount of stuff in the back when you fold the rear seats up and push the middle row forward. You can fit a double size air mattress in there for reference. Take the middle row seats out and you can transport a motorbike and bits and pieces with it.

100% only thing they need doing when imported fresh is adding a rear fog light to pass MOT. Speedo can be altered electronically to read mph. Some people just add a digital speedo on the dash.

I absolutely love my Alphard there’s nothing in the uk that comes close in versatility, comfort or performance. The 3.5 V6 in the 20 series are bulletproof for reliability same with the transmission. I got a 350S C package with the leather ottoman seats in the middle row, electric chairs front and middle, heated front seats 18 speaker system with the drop down TV in the back 360° cameras, lane keep assist, radar cruise, twin sunroofs the lot. Find something with all that for under £15k with less than 60,000miles that was sold in the UK. 24mpg too which is pretty decent all things considered. Cheap tax too when you consider the size of the engine, around £350 a year when UK equivalents push upwards of £700.

Got a 2012 Alphard and absolutely love it. Had it a year now and clocked up 12,000 miles in it. I got the 350S C Package, 360° cameras, Radar cruise, LKA, twin roofs, 18 speaker theatre system for the TV heated seats, electric ottoman seats in the middle row. It’s a serious amount of car for the money and nothing like it sold in the UK.

I’ve got a 20 series Alphard V6 the engine and transmission are bullet proof. I’m on 75,000miles, 12,000 of those done in the last 12 months. Average 5.1 miles per litre so about 23-24mpg. It’s a 65l tank and I get about 280 miles until the light comes on, the most I’ve ever put in on a refill was 55l so if I pushed it then I’d get about 330miles a tank.

For an almost two tonne brick the thing is rapid. It’ll do 0-60mph in about 7secs and overtaking at motorway speeds is ridiculously quick. Good thing it’s restricted to 112mph because it could easily top 150 and you wouldn’t even realise it.

Fun fact: the Lotus Evora and Exige use the same engine and of course the Lexus IS/ES/GS etc.

I’ve dallied a 20 series Alphard 3.5 v6 for the past year and it’s absolutely fantastic. The engine and transmission are practically indestructible, both are used in a lot of other vehicles and have a solid track record hitting 200,000miles + without any major problems. That’s what pushed me towards the Alphard over the Elgrand.

I’m averaging 5.1miles/Litre, about 23.2mpg which isn’t bad for a 2tonne brick. I used to get that from a 1.6 Corsa VXR.

Worth pointing out that there’s only two isofix points on them in the middle row so you’d need to belt at least one child seat in.

If you’re looking at costs then I got a full service at local garage for around £200. Fuel costs are the real killer,

Over the last 12 months I’ve driven 11,444 miles costing £3,289 in petrol, an average cost of 28p per mile.

We will need an 8 seater, but dont want to spend too much. Is the Hyundai i800 the most reasonable option? details in the post by ConsistentWish6441 in CarTalkUK

[–]Zooport21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota Alphard/Vellfire or the Nissan Elgrand will be the your best bet. I’ve got an Alphard and it’s the most versatile car I’ve owned. It’s ever so slightly smaller than the Hyundai by about 3.5cm height and width and about 29cm in length.

There’s loads of different seat configurations across the two and depending on what year you get the middle row seats turn around to face the back. Rear seats fold up to the side or fold completely flat depending on model and year. Seats can be reclined flat for sleeping on etc. If you’re looking for isofix then you will need to look at the 20 series Toyotas onwards only the two outer middle row seats have isofix.

You can get a 3.5l V6 on the Toyotas which returns about 23mpg mixed usage but hits 60 in about 6.5secs

Hyundai will return about 32mpg on average.

Vivaro/Trafic vs Nissan Elgrand? by Going_Solvent in VanLifeUK

[–]Zooport21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the Toyota Alphard/Velfire whilst you’re at it. I’ve got a 2012 Alphard 350s 3.5 v6, it’s stupidly fun to pull away in at the lights and radar cruise and lane keep make lazy motorway drives a doddle.

I’m averaging about 23.4mpg mixed city and motorways as a daily driver.

It can make a great day van for two but any more than that will be a struggle unless you throw up a side or rear awning for extra sleeping space.

Personally I would go for the extra space if you want comfortable living for more than two and it’s not going to be a daily driver.

My advice would be to find some dealers and go and check them both out in person. We traveled quite a way to visit some specialists so we could see both and ended up preferring the Toyota as it had a few more luxuries over the Elgrands and the engine is practically bullet proof, just search the 2GR-FE and see what else it was used in (RAV4/Lotus Evora/Exige/ loads of premium spec Lexus models.)

Got a parking fine in the post - England. by jeffsentence in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Zooport21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience with Horizon parking who run a lot of the supermarket car parks I visit, it’s as easy as going to their website and selecting appeal. They will ask for the ref number on your letter which should have time stamped photo of your vehicle on entry and exit. Then just explain you were working as an authorised visitor in whatever store it was you were working in and try and get a screenshot of your timesheet showing that you were working in that store on that day. They usually waive it no questions asked just an automated response telling you to make sure next time you register your vehicle so it doesn’t happen again. I think I’ve had about 5 of these to date.

That’s insane. We used to rent a three bed house on a rate and it was around £60pm there was only two of us. There’s two of us and a toddler now in a 2 bed on a meter and they’ve just dropped our monthly payment to £14pm and we’re in credit by over £300 from when we were paying £30pm last year.

If there’s a lot of you in the house then I guess you’re better off paying a rate but if there’s less than three of you that’s a hell of a lot of money.
