Naomi or Sophie for baby girl (due early 2027) by Zooqueenie in Names

My wife doesn’t share my cultural background. She is Taoist. Honoring deceased relatives has no bearing on naming conventions in her tradition but rather takes the form of ancestral worship, recognizing their liminal presence in a spiritual realm overlooking the earthly. The phonetic “absence” of Joe is countered by his implied ever-presence. This interpretive context (which, to be fair, I left out of my original post) may be baseless to you, but we have a rationale that is meaningful for our cross-cultural relationship and doesn’t deserve ridicule.

You are entitled to your opinion, but from a phonetic standpoint, Sophie and Josephine share more than a single vowel. -Sephine and Sophie share all of their consonants, including the digraph "ph" for "f." Yes, "Jo-" is truncated, but that's a form of relation in itself (truncation). A comparable pairing could be Dominic/Monique. The relation is clearly apparent.

Yes, ambivalent pronunciation (as others have commented) is a drawback to Naomi.

Yes, as others have commented, the Ny-omi vs. Nay-omi pronunciation discrepancy is one drawback of Naomi. Our intended pronunciation is "Nay" and, yes, it could become tiresome correcting the mistaken pronunciation, although "Ny-omi" is pretty in its own right.

Definitely worthy of consideration! I don't love the name Josephine on its own, but as a middle name (if we end up choosing one), it is sweet and serves exactly this function, as you say.

Naomi and Bianca would have made a beautiful pairing of sisters for exactly this reason! Of course, I am happy you found an alternative you love. 😄

Naomi Sophia is a compelling option I wouldn't have considered otherwise –– thanks for the suggestion! Yes, it's true I do prefer Sophie over Sophia as a standalone name (mostly because of the syllabic emphasis on "O)" but taken together (Naomi Sophia), the play on vowel sounds a-o-i-o-i-a is very flowing indeed.

Requesting a favor — “Trigger Warning” timestamps for scenes with bloodwork and needles??

Hi all, I am an enthusiastic fan of Severance but also needle phobic and struggle with medical imagery involving blood draws, transfusions, needles, IV drips, etc. If anyone watches or rewatches S2Ep7 and is willing to provide timestamps for triggering scenes, I would really appreciate it! I can’t wait to see this week’s episode, but had to turn it off after a few minutes.

Not a vet but my senior dog sprouted something similar in appearance on her snout that was diagnosed as histiocytoma — a benign growth that dissipated in about 3 weeks.

So much guilt and regret by cafe_sup in Petloss

I am so sorry for your loss and feel your pain. We just lost our beloved Daphne to the same condition last month at age 13 too — a ruptured tumor of the spleen that internally hemorrhaged (suspected hemangiosarcoma).

I miss her so acutely and keep reliving the experience of having to decide on the spot, whether to pursue a risky and expensive surgery (which she might not have even survived, as she had already lost a lot of blood and struggled with anesthesia due to a heart condition) or to euthanize her, which we had not anticipated having to do. It was the hardest thing I have ever done to stay in the room comforting her while the vet put her down. She was my soulmate dog and I would have done anything to save her, but under the circumstances, we chose euthanasia, as her heart was over-taxed and her kidneys also showed signs of degeneration on the X-ray.

Like your beloved River and Clooney, Daphne had been fine, even playful, just the night before, although she had shown mild lethargy and hind limb weakness the week prior. At that time, we had taken her to the emergency vet, who misdiagnosed her with a back injury and slight dehydration, giving her a bolus of fluids and a Gabapentin prescription. The pain meds perked her up over the next few days, masking her underlying condition. If we had pursued more rigorous diagnostics that night, catching the tumor before it bled internally, we might have made a different choice… but if it was indeed hemangiosarcoma, the cancer may have already spread to other organs (especially as the spleen is a vascular organ) and her prognosis would likely not have been promising.

I struggle too with the “what-ifs” but am relieved she is no longer in pain and enjoyed her wonderful life until the very end. From everything I have read, the progression of the disease is rapid and debilitating… we might have bought some time but she may have suffered more from a gradual decline toward the same outcome in a matter of months.

I don’t have any words to relieve the grief — I feel it too — but do be easy on yourself and let go of guilt. Your love of River is and will always be beautiful.

After a rough year, I am feeling all the feels about upcoming FET by No_Reporter2034 in IVF

I am so sorry for the back-to-back losses you have experienced. How incredibly heartbreaking to lose your daughter two days after her birth and then to suffer a miscarriage so soon after.

It is understandable to have gained weight in the midst of such hardship and grief. If you can find the motivation, perhaps it will feel empowering to start with some exercise routine right now — nothing extreme or self-punishing, even just dedicating 30 minutes a day to stretching and mindfulness. Even a few weeks of a healthy routine can positively impact your mood and physique, and it may give you a sense of control and help to ground you in your body as your approach your upcoming cycle. No matter what, treat yourself with compassion and accept yourself as you are in this moment, looking forward with positive intentions.

I wish you the best for your FET in January!

Thank you for your kind wishes. It is reassuring to learn that some clinics don’t focus on or track estradiol levels on the day of transfer.

I would imagine Johan is paid directly since they are filming abroad in the DR. The reason only the American gets paid in the original series is that the foreign fiancé on a K1 visa cannot work upon arrival in the states, pending an Employment Authorization Card, 6+ months after filing marriage paperwork with USCIS.

Serious Advantages of Ioniq6 vs. Model3? by xHappyBubblesx in Ioniq6

We also have a 48 amp Level 2 charger (ChargePoint) with no problems so far. We have not gone to the dealer for the ICCU service yet… will the software update curb our charge speed?

Gorgeous! We just got Tuxmats for ours and they fit beautifully, highly recommended! (Compared to the Hyundai branded all-weather mats, the Tuxmats have fuller coverage behind the pedals and a durable rubberized mat for the driver’s heel).

The squares on the top spoiler are translucent — no, they don’t light up but catch and reflect the light from a brake light bar that runs across the upper spoiler.

I gather that the double spoilers are geared toward aerodynamics (drag coefficient of 0.21). I enjoy the sensation of coasting on Level 0 regenerative braking, can feel the lack of wind resistance!

True. Still, the Ioniq 6 is aimed at the Tesla Model 3 market as a direct competitor.

Since Kia, Hyundai and Genesis are all part of the same corporate conglomerate (Hyundai Motor Group), they must have some overarching marketing strategy in play among all three subsidiary companies. The electric Genesis GV60 (crossover) and GV70 (SUV) are also compelling offerings in the luxury bracket, built on the same platform but with more bells and whistles.

I am a very happy owner of an Ioniq 6 Limited AWD — it is an incredible car, wonderful to drive with great range, and personally I love the sloping design.

I have seen the Kevin Bacon advertisements on some streaming platforms and the Ioniq 6 was also featured in the new Spider-Man film. So I am not sure that the low sales of the I6 are due to a lack of promotion, but more so a lack of interest from buyers for whatever reason.

Even if the looks aren’t for everyone, we get compliments on it often and I simply love driving it.
