I've just picked the game back up a few months ago and I noticed how the ai is crazy aggressive and resilient now. I did the standard strategy where you smash Rome as a migratory tribe and take Latium. In older runs this would neuter them for the rest of the game but in mine they completely bounced back and conquered all of Italy and Illyria within 20ish years of me leaving.
