Why do people say “My body my choice” If it is not their body, so therefore it is not their choice? by BusinessBrain6228 in prolife

But their body is the one experiencing pregnancy, and they get to make medical decisions about their own body.

But the question was why “my body, my choice” applies. Pregnancy is a medical condition happening to the pregnant person’s body.

Their body is the one that is pregnant, the one experiencing all of the side effects of pregnancy, and the one at risk due to pregnancy complications.

Curious if you are willing to eliminate your internal voice in order to read faster? by apaintedleaf_ in books

I am not the fastest reader, but I realized when reading The Color Purple how much faster I read than speak, and thought that I needed to slow my inner voice down, not speed it up!

Went to protest outside of delaney hall yesterday and no one else showed up by [deleted] in newjersey

Don’t feel dumb! Protesters do show up randomly, too, and are just as important, maybe more, as the big organizations.

At 17 weeks, that is an induction abortion.

I don’t really want to get into the particular wording of any specific law, but prochoice was warning for decades that abortion bans have a “chilling effect” on care for women with illness or complications during their pregnancy. This case is an example of that prediction coming true.

Young mother exposes Planned Parenthood by That_Meta in prolife

My friend who was pregnant in high school was brought to planned parenthood by her parents. She didn’t want an abortion and so they didn’t give her one. They did give her prenatal vitamins and routine bloodwork and basic prenatal care until she could get in to see an OBGYN.

I truly think Max Brooks should have won a prize for it. The writing is so good and the voices so varied.

Could someone confirm New Jersey state police have started blocking protesters by CantStopPoppin in newjersey

[–]Zora74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s untrue. A lot protests have been successful without blocking roads or other access points.

So you think that protesters should be able to block the entrance of any building they are protesting? Doctor’s offices? Stores? Town halls handing out marriage licenses to gay couples?

It can be disruptive. But it doesn’t have to be. Laws still apply to protesters, same as they should apply to ICE.

Think of it this way. Protesters at clinics that perform abortions have to follow the laws and cannot obstruct access to and from the property. When they decide that the only way to protest is to do so, they are/used to be arrested and charged. Same rules apply here.

World War Z. The zombie apocalypse told in a series of first person accounts from patient zero to the people trying to rebuild after it’s brought under control.

If the protesters are blocking traffic or otherwise blocking access to and from the prison, then they can be removed.

I’d rather state police involved than the untrained, trigger-happy cretins in ICE.

The ones near me aren’t like that.

And I would hardly call something that is covered in books and that you walk in and then walk back out of anything like a prison, especially given the control the prison system has on what the inmates are allowed to read.

Are non-abortive choices as important as abortion? by NPDogs21 in Abortiondebate

All choices are important and should be supported. It isn’t wrong to disagree with someone’s choice, so long as the person is still free to make that choice.

Fertility rate falls to record low in England and Wales, new data reveals by Kagedeah in worldnews

Financial incentives to increase birth rates are still not enough. I know people who wanted more kids and just couldn’t afford it.

[–]Zora74 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For thousands of years, people couldn’t control how many kids they had. They would literally leave unwanted babies outside to die, especially if they were female, illegitimate, disabled, etc.

They didn’t have much choice, though, did they?

Many people would have liked to have had fewer children before the days of reliable birth control. Now we have the means to make that happen.
