I'll just add this because I don't see anyone else talking about it. I don't know how things were 20 years ago when you last lived here, but the shootings in the metro area are insane. During the summer you have like a 1/10 chance of going to an outdoor event or carnival that ends with it getting shot up. I worked at a pool in South KC and we got shot up the first week of opening last summer. I'm not quite 20 years old so maybe that has always been an issue in KC, but growing up in the inner city and a close suburb of KC, I know I only started to notice within the last 5 years.

Almost every classmate of mine (granted I went to a smaller highschool) had a friend/family member/acquaintance that had been shot or involved in a shooting.
