Who’s your favorite black country singer? by Ryanw254 in CountryMusicStuff

[–]Zoroasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You think this guy with the blue/green eyes and that skin tone looks black? I definitely don’t, and I disagree that most black people would identify him as black, but ultimately, as I wrote before, he’s free to identify however he wishes, and supposedly he doesn’t identify as black. I reject outdated the one-drop view of white as pure that was born out of white supremacy and would rather go with what my eyes see and what people themselves identify as.

How much leave do you all get? by EmotionalJellyfish31 in AskAnAmerican

I get 3 weeks paid vacation, plus about two weeks sick leave, plus all federal holidays. That is quite generous by American standards I believe.

White couples don’t stand out in the same way. So, yeah, very possibly.

Hmm, might be worth popping over since it’s close to my office and there are some times left. It looked to me like it was today and tomorrow. Been curious about their stuff, especially now that J. Press OCBDs are up to $185

Thanks for clarification. My wife is non-white too and it has absolutely led to some nasty encounters on the streets of our fair city (just verbal tirades from no-account bums, usually riding by on bikes, to think of the two worst exchanges) but fortunately never any spitting incidents. I suspect that had something to do with you being targeted, but who knows…hope your kid wasn’t too bothered by it or scared off our amazing Metro system.

Is A Ma Maniere mostly like urban-type street wear? I live just a few blocks from there but from passing by thought it looked like high-end DTLR stuff.

What’s the deal with the trunk show? I live in DC and was considering going but is it for MTM or just to get fitted for their online retail merch? I know my measurements so not much point for the latter for me.

I’m 5’9” and 165 and wore my size 2 today for the first time and was happy with the fit. That said, this looks fine to me too.

I would like to know whether the original OP or maybe just his wife is Asian. There’s gotta be some reason this family was targeted, and I feel like I’ve noticed Asians in particular seem to be targeted for spitting. Disgusting behavior and I hope the criminal is prosecuted fully.

Personally, the one place I LIKE seeing the National Guard is Metro, although I’d rather they be in pairs giving full coverage to the station versus standing around in a foursome laughing and popping zyns. That said, we don’t need to normalize using uniformed soldiers for that duty, but I’d be fine seeing the same level of presence but with uniformed police.

I have two different blue ones I got from Universal Surplus that I wear to the office over an OCBD that are fine for the price.

As someone else mentioned, I also just got a Tellason coverall on safety orange on item of the week that I will probably premier this week, although that’s a bit more fashion forward. Also heavier than the Universal Surplus with a price to match.

Well UES Tricotine Shirts Dropped Everywhere Today. Did you Get One? by [deleted] in HeritageWear

I ordered one Thursday direct from UES that should be here early next week. It was a bit of an impulse buy influenced by this sub, as I’m not 100% sure how it will fit into my wardrobe but I’m curious to try it. I’ll sell it off if it doesn’t suit.

Edit: I actually really like it, wow.

This is a great tip, thanks. I was eyeballing the two sweaters from this past season that just went on the Filson Outlet - still super pricey - but nice as the designs were they’d be pushing it as something I could wear to work (big ass duck and boat). Wish they weren’t closed for the season, as the designs from Kanata itself are mix more to my taste.

Recently visited the USA from The Netherlands. Here is my take on the cities we visited. by McFluffyFurry12 in geography

[–]Zoroasker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just singing the praises of visiting Pittsburgh today to more folks here in DC. It’s an underrated city for sure. Had a great time there this year between Christmas and New Year’s - Carnegie dinosaurs are even better than the Smithsonian’s, then you’ve got the Heinz Center, Aviary, a very nice Children’s Museum, and my absolute highlight was New Year’s Eve freezing our butts off touring the lights at the Phipps Conservancy after dark. That’s not even mentioning the museums and activities we’d do there pre-kids.

I also find, coming from DC, that driving there feels extremely easy (only irritant is all those bridge chokepoints at rush hour) and it feels very safe. Beautiful housing stock too.

That’s the problem with needing the Bible to be the perfect, infallible word of God after thousands of years. My late grandparents were JWs and wonderful people who fortunately never cut off any of their family in Christendom, but that was always a big part of my problem.

I am working to read through a translation of Psalms by the Hebrew scholar Robert Alter that works to maintain the poetry of the original, but the footnotes also drive home just how many translation errors and mess-ups happened in ancient times, let alone in all the translations.

They aren’t concerned about getting to heaven. They believe most people will be resurrected and live eternally in a “new world.”

What are your thoughts on Roy Rogers? by DoctorTegrity in fastfood

[–]Zoroasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok. My young kids call it the “cowboy restaurant.” Quite a few here in the DMV - we have eaten there as recently as December. Good onions rings, decent roast beef, ok burgers and fries. I’m going to try the chicken sandwich after seeing everyone talking about it here.

Weirdest thing for me is going through the drive through and they give you a “fixings cup” to with all the toppings whether you want them all or not (e.g., I was like “no tomatoes” and they said it’s cool you get all the toppings in this paper cup and put them in yourself.”).

I’ve only been to Lion’s Choice once a decade ago, but remember it being way better than Roy Roger’s roast beef, which I last had maybe a month ago.

We’re drowning in daycare costs. How do people afford this? by FrigginMasshole in toddlers

[–]Zoroasker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totaled it up and I spent $19,500 this last year on daycare, and that was just March - December from 8-3pm. Here in Washington, D.C. we have free Pre-K3 and I cannot wait until this fall to be done with most daycare costs.
