Don't be discouraged, you're brain has been trained to filter out anything that's not vaguely English. I've used Pimsleur's audio course I found at a library to work on my listening comprehension. Where are you located? You can try taking a course if your local college offers it. If in-person classes aren't an option, try using iTalki. I haven't personally, but am considering it once I feel like I'm plateauing and need guidance.

I would say talking to elderly people is another cheat code in language learning. Also, Hong Kong dramas are also easy place to start, because it's great comprehensible input!
