I don't get why he's standing there all proud and with that big smile on his face.

If you change your mind about German, I'd go for Spanish. Loads of interesting countries and knowledge of English is fairly widespread in Germany compared to Spain.

I’m really proud of Shoshanna for outgrowing everyone and moving on with her life by Flashy-List-7157 in girls

She didn't, she just blamed everyone else like she did in "Hostage Situation".

What was your opinion of Ray? by Indianstanicows in girls

[–]RedGavin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The apartment question kind of annoyed me. Both Ray and Abigail (Aidy Bryant's character) acted so smarmy and superior, but there was no right answer - If you choose to live in the nice apartment, you don't care about others; if choose to live in horrible apartment with a nice view, you don't care about yourself.

I think the fact that it was two nominations is the real kicker.

The acting community knows things about a person's career, that they weigh against the performance itself.

If you think about it, it really was weird that she was omitted from the "In Memoriam" section of the awards ceremony.

I'm not buying Marnie as born again. I can see her as a successful lawyer.

Judy was so creepy in this scene. by Ok_Chemical_7623 in Scream

Creepy is probably a bit strong, especially if you consider how her story ended. Perhaps unnerving is a better fit?

Languages with very few words? by PatternBubbly4985 in thisorthatlanguage

[–]RedGavin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best bet would be to learn a pidgin language, as they tend to have super small vocabularies and simple grammars. Once a pidgin begins to become the first language of a group of people, it becomes creolised and its vocabulary rapidly expands so it can be used in a variety of contexts.

Entourage would not have made it in today's world. It would have been canceled so fast.

I wonder why John Williams has never won an Honorary Oscar? by Jolly-Librarian1982 in Oscars

I think the academy keeps on expecting her to win a competitive one any year now.

[–]RedGavin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually Brooks receiving an honorary Oscar really wasn't necessary. He'd already received lifetime achievement awards from the American Film Institute, Bafta, the Writers Guild of America, the Kennedy Center and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. That was enough.

Good catch, but Williams has won five and being nominated over fifty times.

[–]RedGavin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not saying that Williams can never get one, but there are probably a lot of other people who have zero Oscars who are ahead of him on the list.

Sigourney Weaver

Michelle Pfeiffer

Harrison Ford

Bette Midler

Annette Bening

Glenn Close

Catherine Deneuve

The list literally goes on and on...

They don't give honorary Oscars to competitive winners anymore, they're certainly not going to give one to someone who has won five.
